Thanks. Will see if I can get the glovebox open.

Wrt radio, put a flat blade screwdriver around the radio you mean? Old skoda just needed two keys either side and then prise it out. This one seems more involved as no screws visible?

Appreciate your help.

This car is not going to be much like your old one in many respects.

There's a trim panel surrounding the radio that is just clipped on. Prise that off with a screwdriver and you will find 4 screws securing the radio to the dashboard.

Probably does need the keys, anything needed to remove the head unit will be covered by the trim surrounding it. Be careful getting it off. Most likely the 'keys' you mentioned or some Torx screws holding the radio in.

It's 4 Torx screws, can't remember which size though.

Security torx or regular?

Regular.

Right thanks for your replies. As I am not familiar with the car this may seem like a silly question but where does the elm327 dongle fit please? It has teeth at the bottom.

Does it fit in the same place where the diagnostic machine does under the steering wheel somewhere?

Thanks

Cheers

I have also heard mention, the security code way well be inside the stereo unit although it needs removing and careful searching inside, to find it. If its not the original and you still cannot sort it, it may be easier buying a replacement unit, along with its code or bite the bullet and have an upgrade! That SAID, IF IT IS THE ORIGINAL, MAIN DEALERS SHOULD BE ABLE TO EITHER GIVE YOU THE CODE OR AT THE VERY LEAST, RECODE IT FOR YOU AND USUALLY, IT WONT GET LOST IF THE BATTERY IS REMOVED. SURPRISED TO SEE IT HAS TBH.

(SORRY FOR BIG LETTERS, COULDN'T CHANGE BACK).

The 1.6 TDi is bad for needing a certain exhaust sensor, if I remember correctly diagnostics will say sensor three but it is actually the second sensor along the length of the exhaust, just before the DPF. If you remove the airbox, it can be replaced with a bit of difficulty from the top.

I think your mechanic was being a bit pessimistic saying that the sensor might break, the VW exhausts (provided its still the original) are generally long lasting and don't weld the sensors in. So it shouldn't be too much of a problem to have changed.

With regards to when to change it, you will probably be able to nurse the car along for a while, the fault will remain intermittent, cycling the ignition usually resets it or you could do it with your newly acquired technology. But the fault will become permanent at some point and it will have to be done to sort it.

The torx screws holding the radio in will be either T20 or T25.

Good luck.

Thanks, I appreciate your help. What do you mean by cycling the ignition? All being well I will try out my new tech at the weekend and see if I can remove the warning lights manually.

"Cycling the ignition" is the car equivalent of turn it off and turn it back on again!

Turning it off and on again.

Hi. Am I putting this the new tech in the right place in the lilac slot on the RHS of the pic below? Doesn't seem to work with Torque lite the free app? Should it automatically pair or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks for your help.

That is the correct connector.

You need to ignition on and then pair the device using Bluetooth on your phone before starting the Torque app.

Hi. I've managed to take the radio out,  borrowed the specific screwdriver from the garage lads across the road.

Cleared the warning lights using the elm327 bluetooth adapter.

Not sure what I need to do now with the radio code. I cannot seem to find anyone on ebay who I can buy a code from for this specific radio.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Stands to reason if you haven't fixed the cause.

I am looking to use the AUX socket near the handbrake. Thanks

Should be 3.5mm, same as an aux jack on a phone.

@Faz02 Check that your Aux socket has a silver ring where you are putting the jack in. Sometimes the socket can get pushed in and break off and fall into the console.
