I am in a bit of a fix. I have

Tune the vRS. Evos are great cars, but check out the running costs :eek::eek:

I voted keep the vrs think of the fuel economy

With that budget you could get over 300bhp from your Octy but that's not necessarily the best option. A change of car may suit you best but I would avoid the Evo due to running costs and the number of them I hear of being taken by force.

Evo 8 cracking car....but as a techie myself even i would get fed up with the servicing/running costs.

Vrs wolf in sheeps clothing....tune it

Phil

Depends on your mileage and the type of driving you do, IMHO If you do average mileage (12K per year) or more, do the Octy. Or, spend the 5-6k on a kit car :D

The Evo requires an AYC service every 4500 miles  and at £200+ a pop that makes it quite pricey to run, along with poor economy, high insurance, harsh(ish) ride and a not so quiet cruise.

On the plus side, you are getting a damned quick car, out of the box. Is the Evo modded?

I was in this same dilema recently but I choose to tune my RS further....IHI turbo.

I have between 280-340bhp with Jabba's boost controller.....I generally run it on low boost setting for day to day running.....get around 35mpg.

EVOs need to be serviced every 4.5k which is around £300 a pop...brakes discs cost approx £1k with pads IIRC.......very fast motors but running costs are very high.

Octy was on variable servicing but will get in done sooner now......highly tuned engines required more frequent servicing.

It was more cost effective for me to modify than buy a new car....I only really buy a new car if I'm bored with my current motor.:o

All MR 280 really pump out 300bhp....so they are quick...have better seats than the Jap spec 320/340 (a little wider for those of wider base;)) and only have a/c as opposed to c/c.

Hmm, tricky one.

I say no to the Evo - running costs are absolutely comically high. But spening

I would stay clear of an evo, I work with these every day, albeit mostly rally variants and have one as a company car, but hardly ever use it simply due to the running costs, I get servicing free etc but fuel and also the attention it gets is too much for me on an every day basis.

Go for the wolf in sheeps clothing, with the money you have to spend could end up with a very capapble car!

Or buy the cobra replica I am trying to sell at the moment, pm me for more details!

I would think if you can get a go in the Evo you'll love it and hate it. The performance is absolutely mindblowing, but unfortunately there is no comfort whatsoever - ignore what people say about them being a useable family car - they're not. The ride really is that harsh. As well as the aforementioned costs it all adds up to a no from me.

The Impreza may be a bit chavvy but 16K will buy you a new one from motorpoint and at 10K intervals and a more comfortable ride they're a better choice IMHO

(unless you can afford a day to day car and an Evo - then get the Evo)

Completely different cars obviously.

I'd definately opt for the Octavia, makes very good sense to me all round.

Hi,

Here is an alternative suggestion, buy an octy tdi 170 when they are released and modify that. The most fuel efficient powerful choice?

I wish I had the money.

John

My advice would be to go and drive the Evo and then find someone on here with the mods you want who will give you a demo drive.

The AYC fluid change needed every 4.5k miles is around

Not quite in the same league as an Evo though ;)

Chris

If you fancy having a violent criminal breaking into your house and demanding the keys to your car at gunpoint, then go for the EVO.

If you don't fancy that at all, then tune the Skud. It's an 05 so plenty of life left in the old girl yet...

(I know this probably wont happen, but it's a consideration with any desirable trick motor)

Thing is as soon as you tune any car, lets face it you can tune my 1.8t to give as much umph as an FQ400 and handle almost as well, if not better when FWd is preferred.

But if I did, my runing costs would be as high, if not higher. Highly tuned engines require TLC and money.

If I was in a raw unbiased boat I'd pick the Evo. If I was crawling up on to the desert island with not a care in the world, I'd choose the Evo, in fact Evo in any scenario except my postcode, the *should be shot on site* yob demanding keys, and practicality of boot space.

I'd rather put the 6k in the morgage or a deposit on a B10 or somthing good, NA RWD or an Audi.

How about the alpina d1o 3.0 diesel 245 bhp 370 lb ft torque with remapping potential on ebay for £13450 + 36+ mpg?

John

as has previously been mentioned..if you 'breath' on the Octy it'll require lots of

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVO*

*Don't take my advice btw

PMSL

I voted Evo,but personally I'd rather have the VI...

If people took things like that into consideration when making decisions then no one would ever do anything!!

E36 BMW M3

Or an M5

It depends where you live, I know of people who have been victim of this sort of thing and for me it is a big factor in car choice. There's a few hot spots up here such as Bradford, Manchester and Liverpool. The Mitsubishi dealer in Bradford wouldn't have any Evo's on display, they were all kept in the warehouse at the back and viewing was by appointment only. However they were still regularly targeted with the sales guys houses being broken into several times. They eventually had to stop selling EVO's due to the crime problems.

Briskoda mambers have also been targeted by scum to steal their Octavias in the past - so even a "dull" looking hatchback will attract theives "in the know"
