vRS Door Safety Lights

Featured Replies

Great - couldn't recommend them highly enough.

Very good quality although they are a sod to remove the old ones and reinsert (you need plastic trim removal tools, knowledge that they only come out in one direction, because there is a load of plastic to the left/right hand side of the reflector).

I’m just seeing if anyone has the following, or similar, Door Safety Lights from Kopacek (formerly SuperSkoda)?

If so, do you rate them, how did you find the install and is there any coding required?

Thanks in advance.

I have the white non-vRS ones from Kopacek, they were a straight swap (I just used a large flat bladed screwdrive to tease out the OE ones) and as the interior lights are not monitored there is no coding to be changed.

They are great. I have the exact same ones which I bought 3 weeks ago. Easy to fit with a screwdriver under 5 minutes in total both sides. Delivered in 2 weeks.

I replaced mine with a pair of LED bulbs. Housing comes out easy enough (I got it removed using the corner of an old credit card).

That circuit isn't canbus managed, so no need for coding.

Same. Although you will see fault codes logged against the door controllers, but no errors on the dash or in the infotainment. I don't believe they can be coded.

Did you order them from SuperSkoda?

Did you have to pay any duties/tax due to Brexit?

Yep from superskoda and no additional tax or duty paid.

My car had the led bulbs fitted by the previous owner and raised fault codes. I refitted oe filament bulbs and they are actually brighter than the leds. The leds were directional so only had a bit of light on the top side. The oe lamps lit all around and are far better. Unless you are going to fit something like the units from superskoda that shine the emblem onto the floor you might as well keep your money with swapping to leds.

I think the kopacek ones are pretty ugly given the extra chunk required to project the logo. Most aftermarket versions have the same issue.

If I were to do this, I'd probably fit the OE versions from the Karoq (57A052133, 57A052134) as these fit into the bottom of the door card so are completely hidden from view. Obviously it requires a hole to be cut in the door card but they feel a much neater solution.

Shame they are so expensive at the moment :(

This is a good idea.

Assuming the connection for the Karoq are the same as the safety lights and will reach the bottom of the door card once the hole is cut.

The current lenses could be replaced with the reflective ones.

I think you’d be limited to the Skoda logo with this method however. I do agree though that the aftermarket ones are a bit ugly.

I'd probably splice into the normal red light wiring and have both ;)

Seems there are some cheaper Chinese 'bottom mount' versions but no examples of what they're projecting. For example: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002062192243.html

I've got these lights from Kopacek (Super Skoda) and I have to be honest and say when I first fitted them I thought they were quite ridiculous and actually thought about removing them. But...I stuck with them and now I love them :D

I was a bit surprised at how big the light units actually were, and also the fact that they are transparent (I didn't realise this before I ordered them) instead of being actually red in colour like the originals...

The one on the passenger side door was always originally making me think my wife had left something on the passenger seat in the corner of my eye, because there was suddenly this weird silvery object there, but I can say I'm used to it now and no longer notice it.

The red glow is much much brighter than the original lights and does give quite a nice glow...

Here's another pic when it's fully dark. I think the night-mode on my phone does make the red glow appear a bit more 'crazy' than in real life...

And just incase that wasn't enough, here's a video of me opening the door...

Ignore my laughing in the video, this was back when I thought they were ridiculous. So yeah, but of a shock at first and for a while I always thought something was falling out of the car when I opened the door :D but now I'm used to them I'd definitely highly recommend them :)

Thanks for all the feedback on these!

Decided to place an order come pay day. I’m also eyeing up a couple more bits, namely black badges all round!

@simonds3135 thanks for your thorough review on the lights! Great looking car you have there with that colour and wheel combo. Am I correct in saying that you have black badges fitted or is that just the light?

Unsure on the correct vRS badge for the FL grille as there appears to be a few options available.

Thanks @CookieMonster87 :) and yes you're right - I do have black badges, all bought from Kopacek. Well, you mention the grille badge, that's the only one I didn't buy - I actually made it myself on mine just by sticking some hand-cut bits of red vinyl onto the original silver grille badge, as I thought making the silver black might make it look a bit too lost on the black grille...

Still can't believe how much difference those teeny tiny bits of vinyl make to the overall look of the car. Goes lovely with the callipers :)...

@simonds3135 I agree, makes a big difference. Did you put red vinyl on the rear badge too?

I’ve thought about doing similar using the original colours with the black vRS badges.

Ideally I’d like to use OEM badges with coloured inlays however I’ve seen aftermarket ones available which may be an easier option, I’m just not sure on the quality.

There are at least 3 different black vRS adhesive badges on the Kopacek website.

The 230, 245 and Kodiaq versions. I’m guessing it’d be the smaller 245 version I’d need for the front. I’ll pop out and have a measure after the football!

Failing that a can of Plastidip is in order!

Yeah I had a measure of all the badges on there and none of them would.fit the backing plate on the grille of mine, so that's why I decided to just modify the original one in the end :)

Thank you for sharing this with us. I've been pondering this for a while, and will now definitely go ahead and place an order.
