This is probably an old topic. SD card for my vehicle

Featured Replies

Hi
I need the correct SD card for my Skoda Octavia 2014.
There seems to be many versions out there.   Please will someone tell me which one I need.

I thought I bought the right one but had to send it back.  HELP !

Hi Tamsin, welcome to the forum. Are you referring to the navigation system card?

If it's the SD card for your navigation system then we need to know what system you have - the Amundsen only works with a genuine Skoda SD card but for updating the maps on a Columbus you can use any SD card.

As you have a 2014 model you will have a MIB1 system not a MIB2.

Thanks It’s a MIB1. I don’t know if it’s a

Amunsun probably is. I had a genuine Skoda SD card. It wouldn’t work.
Went to the local garage and they tried another cards also Skoda as a test. It recognised that one but it wouldn’t work properly as out of a Fabia. The local people at Skoda are really helpful.

They sold the car to  a customer who never used Sat Nav. I have had it for a couple of years and didn’t even realise Sat Nav was standard so have been using Google maps off my phone but Sat Nav is better and safer.
It is a eally great car. Only done 25 K miles!

Everything else works on the infotainment system .

This is the photo. Is it Columbus?   I was looking on EBay and when I sent photo below the seller said Columbus.  The car was registered Jan 1 st 2014. So it could be a 2013 model. I really don’t want to buy the wrong card and mess people around.

If you think it has satnav then there will be a button marked "nav".  I don't see one.

No button but you can get into it through Media.  That bit works as it picked up a test SD card borrowed from a Fabia .

Yes

The PO probably changed the screen at some point.

Any chance of taking the second picture again, it's so blurry it's unreadable :D

Sorry try this picture.

The previous owner didn’t use Sat Nav. He was an elderly gentleman. Had car from new. Always serviced at the garage where I bought  the car.  Did less than 5k miles a year.  Coincidentally I had his old Octavia L&C. Which I traded for this one when. I had done over100 K on it.   This one was like new.I don’t even think he used the radio!  Garage is local to me very reliable honest and friendly. They suggested buying a SD card privately as much less expensive than from them.
My husband also has a Skoda.

Pretty sure the 5E0035842A part number is for a Bolero which doesn't support satnav.

I wonder if there is some aftermarket nav kit fitted. Any chance of a picture showing the interface once it's in satnav mode?

A picture of the unit in the glovebox may be useful

Photo of glovebox unit attached. Not much to see

Yup, that looks like a Bolero as it only has one SD card slot. A navigation unit would have two SD card slots.

As I mentioned earlier, there is a good chance it's an aftermarket satnav that's been fitted :)

Possibly something like a Kenwood GVN-MIB1 as that would keep the original display and only take over for nav functions.

Thankyou that’s really helpful. Tamsin

Yes it is still an option. However if there was genuinely a sat nav option retrofitted the Kenwood system still came with a NAV button that should have been retrofitted at the same time.

I think if you go to Menu and scroll through the options the Nav option may present itself through that.

You have to use android auto and plug your phone in. The system does not have sat nav installed but it uses the google maps app from your phone and displays it on the screen.

The part number looks to be a MIB1 Bolero so no smartlink or Android Auto support.

If we see a picture of the satnav interface we'll have a better idea what's fitted

That’s really good advice. My phone connects automatically through Blue tooth for phones. It’s an Apple phone and the iPad connects as well. So if I can get google maps up on the screen I won’t need the sat nav anyway? I will go Ans have a play. Thankyou

CarPlay and Android  Auto need a USB cable connection, they won't work via Bluetooth - which is only for hands free and music.
