Water in boot

I have a 2015 Superb estate with water gathering in the boot.  I appreciate water will find the least path of resistance. Mine appears to be coming in via the rear near side so possibly the light cluster. It had a respirator after a knock so perhaps it was removed for that job.

 

is there a way of sealing the cluster?

 

 I read a thread that suggested making holes in the lower part of the well. The advice I am seeking is this please. Are we talking about drilling holes and if so do I need to treat the holes to prevent corrosion?

I have the same issue . There is no evidence of dampness/wetness anywhere but water collects in wheel well. Have you any wetness anywhere?

I had a tow bar fitted by the supplying Skoda dealer last year and they have checked the installation but found nothing amiss. Water has been accumulating this week after rainfall.

I am really stumped as wheel well is below the polystyrene insert and boot floor all of which are bone dry.

I too have a tow bar but can’t see that being my issue. I dried it out yesterday and during a downpour I checked and saw a trickle coming from the rear near side area. Interestingly my insert gets swamped as does the wheel well.

 

Would love a solution as DIY investigating would entail taking off a lot of trim which history shows would mean it wouldn’t go back properly.

Yep same !! Boot floor bone dry. Side pockets bone dry. Jus wheel well. I too had towbar fitted and noticed it shortly after. Possibly coming in through wiring grommet when washing. Not had chance yet to put small child in boot when washing to check for me lol 

I may be linking towbar fitting and problem because I only noticed water after tow bar was fitted. Car on drive, water accumulation from rain so I cannot see that tow bar and it's fitting is at fault. It's coming from somewhere so I will have acquire small child to be in tailgate area while I get hose/jet spray out.

Had the exact same issue. Fixed mine by removing the N/S/R tail light unit and silicone sealed around the inside of the cluster seal, to Seal any gaps between the seal and the bodywork. 
left it over night to dry once fitted again, and haven’t had any water in the boot since.

Silicone. I like that. Not too much stripping down.

 

the cluster is definitely the prime suspect. It has been off twice for re-sprays.

I took both rear light clustres off, seals are ok but I did not put any silicone on when refitted. I applied talc powder in wheel well and surround to see where water might flow from. Checked this morning after rain for most of yesterday and again a reasonable accumulation. No disturbance to talc powder and all carpets etc bone dry. Still confused because there is no logic with water getting in, dry trim and, now, no disturbance to talc application. It is as if water somehow gets from outside to in the wheel well without touching anything between!!

I have made little progress. Dealer reviewed towbar fitting and confirmed everything in place and done correctly. They had no suggestions for source of leak.

I have monitored and water continues to accumulate. Today I looked again and after I had cleared pooled water I noticed a seepage from the right-hand corner of the boot area (estate). There is sealant there  across the rear edge. It is as if there is a stored source of water behind the sealant. As far as I can tell behind the rear bumper is the main body of the car, does anyone know what the structure is and if there is a potential route for water.

When I bought the car nearly 12 months ago some damage to the left side of the bumper was repaired. Either the car was reversed into something or the car was hit from behind, damage was more cosmetic but I am wondering if there was more to it.

Any further thoughts welcome.

This may or may not help but many years ago I had a similar problem and I eventually found it was missing body seal between the rear wing and rear scuttle panel.  But the area missing sealant was behind the bumper and difficult to find and see.

@AjhflyerWe had huge water ingress issues on our MKI Focus, with water gathering in the wheel well and the underlay was all wet on the os of the car and water in the footwells. 
We had the car in a main dealer about 5 years ago, who stripped the scuttle, plenum chamber and removed the OS wheel arch liner; they couldn’t find anything and I was £450 lighter. Time went on, with the car soaking in the winter and dryish in the summer. In November last year I took it to a small local independent who found the issue in 10 minutes. The seam joint where the boot cross member joins the lower scuttle had split in two places. Water running down the body and behind the bumper cover, which hides this joint of course, entered these gaps, soaking the boot carpets which, in turn, then dripped into the wheel well. This now soaking carpet, which goes behind the rear seats, soaked the interior carpets but, as they’re waterproofed, the underlay became saturated but the carpets remained dry; there was an inch of water in the rear and front footwells. Anyway, they dried the carpets and underlay, sealed the joints and voila - no more water. Worth a check.
