Mini USB ports - Karoq 21 registration

Featured Replies

Just taken delivery of my new Karoq 21 - a replacement for my 2018 Karoq.  What I didn't realise was that the SD card slots have been removed completely but they now have 2 small mini USB ports instead of the previous larger size.

Do any intelligent people out there know which cable(s) I should now buy to connect to these smaller USB ports.  I also need to connect my iPhone via USB, too.  Those card slots were so darn useful.  Just a niggle but annoying as I don't like playing through blue tooth etc.

many thanks for any pointers.  The manual in the car just shows shows where the ports are - not actually the type of connector you need.

I'll move this to the right place but would guess that the ports are USB C so that's that end sorted.

My dealer cave me usb c adapters so still using my original cables, you don't need the sd cards anymore any updates happen via Skoda connect.

Unfortunately mine wasn’t so accommodating.  SD card held a lot of my music  - Type C the way to go         😏

I still think they did the huge mistake when removed SD slots. If you don't have internal memory you have to have USB permanently connected if you want to play music.

I am sure that SD cards slots exist (navigation use one for storing maps) but they, somehow, block it.

Bring back the cassette player.

I can tell you’re a mere youngster as you didn’t mention 8-track or in-car 45rpm disc players! :tongueout:

I reckoned for the sake of humourous effect more people would get the cassette reference than the 8 track.

And I'm old enough to have been at the Isle of Wight festival in 1969 and 1970...  fortunately I can remember barely anything about them.

Im probably not as old as you but I remember my parents having an 8 track in the car they had at the time.  That makes me oldish too 😞

My first (air-cooled) Beetle had a valve MW/LW Motorola radio, while my MGTD didn't bother with radios or heaters!!

Indeed, when i first started driving everything was manual. Steering, brakes, indicators. No form of assistance whatsoever. My parents old Ford Pop, used to have vacuum powered wipers, which used to slow down to a halt when going up hills.

I had a Vauxhall Velox for a while which had wipers driven from the dynamo I think. They certainly speeded up with the engine revs, and when I was doing an indicated 100mph (back in the unregulated 60s, officer) one was flapping back and forth so fast it flew off!

That would have been vacuum powered. I used to drive a 1962 Ford Thames minibus in 1970’s just after passing test that did this, wipers almost stopping at low revs.

Plenty.

Cassettes were superior in terms of portability (smaller) and durability (the physical strains caused by the the 8-track tape mechanism).  8-track sound quality was regarded as of higher quality but since their biggest market was in-car use the external sounds in cars of that time negated any perceived higher quality.  The ease of DIY car fitting and huge range of in-car players helped, in European markets certainly.  Further, home cassette recorders were becoming more able to use far better quality tapes (chrome, iron, anyone?) which further increased the cassette's superiority.  I had friends who deeply regretted buying 8-track systems, and were delighted when they switched to cassettes.  Didn't know a single person who went the other way.

(This is in contrast to the demise of Betamax in the fight with VHS, where the superior Sony product was swamped by the combined marketing power of nearly every other consumer electronics company.)
