1.9 SDI EVRY MOD

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I am looking into performing the EVRY mod with my SDI. I plan on buying a cheap tuning box and adding a variable resistor to it instead of splicing directly into my wiring.

I know the SDI is a eco box and not for power. I know that I could get a tune but thats out of budget.

So has anyone had experience with the EVRY mod ?  Just interested in hearing peoples Experiences.

You won't get any more power out of the SDI, you'll just burn more fuel for no gain.

Save your money; you need to add  more air as well as more fuel to make more power, and there's no mechanism for adding more air on the non-turbo SDi.

More air ... ?  Hold on ... Your prayers have been answered  for £68 ...... :muscle:

What a great piece of equipment and the SDi has the battery and charging system to power this revolutionary piece of automotive technology. Combined with that piggy back ECU mod you might gain 2bhp .....  But that's more than highly unlikely.

In other words do what Ken and Sep advise ...  Save your money ...!

I own an sdi, personally I don't think theres any power gain to be had from doing the evrymod ( and I was tempted to do it and see a while back). Mixing in a little kerosene does seem to liven it up a little (illegal for a road car, also not a great thing for the pump). Best ""performance"" mods I've done to mine are a service and it currently having a "stripped" interior, pulled a fuse so I could left foot brake (apparantly a better way to achieve this is to cut some of the wires going to the brake light switch, I just pulled the fuse) and theres a pair of stiffer rear springs in the back of it that made a big difference.

In my (limited) experience, all new filters and a good service can make any diesel run noticeably better.

Even still, its a very strong engine that can run on most anything.

Uprated bushings, a rear anti roll bar and some uprated springs are all decent ways of atleast making a fabia quicker through a corner, even if it wont catch anything on a straight.

A stage 1 remap does make a significant difference on the sdi. Feels more lively and pulls much better from lower revs. I am not sure you will get the same effect from a tuning box though.

Tougher coils on the back also make a noticeable difference.

"Stage One" - do tell us more.....

I'm also curious, You can get remaps for the sdi, but its usually only a 6 or 7 hp bump MAX. Contrast that with say my 1.6 tdi,  where a "stage 1" remap has given a healthy 35hp bump over standard. Not much gains to be had on N/A diesels really.

The sdi has its merits though. A big, understressed, underpowered lump of a diesel in a (relatively) small car such as the fabia is pretty okay to drive, much better than an Sdi Golf or a caddy.

And actually, the sdi has a better intake manifold and much shorter gearing than a tdi to make up for the lack of power.

I think that most the advantage is from the removal of all the emission/noise control settings evening out the fuelling. I am defiantly not flooring it as much as I used to.

I like my sdi though, only time I feel its underpowered is on steep slip roads/hills on the motorway. Around town in 2-3rd gear as long as you keep it over 1300 revs it can feel relatively spritely overtakes bikes etc fine. Certainly feels better than my mates 1.2 Corser or 1.0 108. Reason I bought it is for the fuel economy, reliability and its ability to run on veg oil.

Only thing is over 2000ish revs it does seem to get pretty noisy in the cabin and you end up changing gear frequently. I tend to change up at around 1700 revs - good for economy not performance.

I dont want to sound daft, but if i'm not mistaken, theres not much in the way of emissions or noise control to remove from an sdi. Its a euro 3 engine iirc, its only got a basic cat and an egr that can be disabled by pulling the vacuum line to it. There does seem to be a bit of a gain to be had by disabling the egr, but that can just as easily be done in 2 minutes by yourself.

I should hope so

You can get up to speed quicker by slipstreaming faster vehicles like milk floats.

We've got a couple of sdis in the the family. Dad has a MK1 fabia and I have a MK2 caddy. They can move alright when they want to, just have to use a bit of driver ability to stay on the power.

The best thing you can do for them is get the cambelt changed and timed up well if it's not had one recently.  They can stretch older or cheaper belts, which results in a lot of power loss.

It's never going to be fast, so just enjoy it for what it is. I probably have more fun driving my 68?hp caddy than my vrs that's got about 100hp more.

Do anyone have wiring diagram for evrymod on 1.9sdi 47kw? Or pictures from installations? Thanks😊

Would be the same as a 1.9tdi evrymod, exact same so just search for it as such. Again, doubt there'll be gains from it but i'd like to hear how you get on.

Thanks mate, this is not for any gains at all but for roll coal. I will give you an update on how its going when ive gotten that far👌 but due to rotationwork it will not be for at least 3weeks.

A little off topic here guys. But since im doing the evrymod, im going to delete the EGR. How is that with ecu, will the engine light (EML)switch on etc? Do i need software to remove EGR, or is it ok with just physically?

I have a 1.9sdi 47kw from 2003-04.

Not completely sure if i have the AEY or AYQ engine.

1.9 sdi is an ASY code on these.

I pulled the vacuum line on mine to stop the egr from working. Mine is duffed I think as once I pulled the vacuum hose it got rid of a stutter the car developed around 2k rpm. It will make the glow plug light flash iirc. I'd just pull the line and put it back on for MOT. You can probably get metal blanks to put between the egr and intake either.

Thanks😊 im new on these engines i gotta ask. Will it affect the car in any way? For example, emergency mode? Or is it harmless? iknow, evrymod might kill it but i just gotta ask😅 i had a tdi long ago and that became a chapter on its own to say it like that😂

It shouldn't put it into limp mode no. These engines are very simple and very much overbuilt for the power they produce. Sdis are very sensitive to smoke compared to a tdi. If you wanted to roll coal i'll bet you'll have results from just gutting the cat, or putting in a dummy pipe. Mine blasted soot out of it when I first got it. Standard cat and no funny map on it. It failed its NCT on smoke hence why I got my hands on it.

For some reason its stopped doing it since I put it back together. Probably explains how I once managed 8mpg in it lol.

Anyhow, the tiny vacuum line on the top of the egr is what I removed. I think I put a screw in the line to plug it and tucked it  behind one of the lines on the firewall.

Okay, i have tested the evrymod for about one week now. And i must say, you can feel actually pretty good difference when it comes to more torque (not like ahuge amount). Really helps in low gears. Would recommend to try it out😊

Thats pretty impressive that it worked. How did you wire it up? Or have you just "sent it" by splicing in a resistor?

I pretty much put took two wiretap connectors and put it on the second and third pin in the 10pin connection (you see small notches with numbers on the connection), then run wires from it and through the firewall and in to the dash, putting on a 1kohm potmeter on and a switch. After that its just to urn on and adjust untill you find your personal preference😊

Hello guys felt like an update was welcome. After knocking my cat out and preforming the evry mod my sdi has come alive. Alot more power then what it had. Maybe a 6 hp boost and more torque. Doesnt sound like much but my estate finally can finally out pace a bus 😅  I have wired a switch into the cab and can active at will. Much better then leaving it permanetly on. Leaving it on causes irratic idle depending on what resistance you decide to use. In my case i used an 1k ohm potentiometer. Allows fine tuning for power without ruining gretas chillhood with smoke. Overall a great mod to liven up my sdi. Still get 60 mpg no matter how I drive. Great car.
