Waiting for a new car?

Featured Replies

Our Karoq was allocated a build week of 22 (commencing 31st May).

I contacted the dealer this morning for an update.

According to them it has not even been started.

The reason being a shortage of components (computer chips in particular).

I then contacted SUK, who confirmed this to be the case - so I asked how many cars are affected by this and how big the backlog might be.

There are bound to be others who are already in the pipeline before my car gets to the front of the queue.

They had no idea and didnt seem able to ask the question of the factory.

So..... Who else here is waiting and what was your original build week?

Cheers

Just checked on the Ateca brochure. Unless I've read it wrong, all colours including Velvet Red are considered standard in the price of the car. All colours apart from 3 are only available on 4 of 6 t

Happy to be proved wrong.  Ask for an Audi S8.

Skoda have been trucking cars (missing parts) to storage, even rented part of an airfield.    It’s thousands of cars.

And they haven’t even attempted to build some as multiple parts are missing (Op sounds like he/she is in this category).    However are apparently building what they can of the specs they have parts for.

There have been suggestions that orders placed for some models now, won’t be built until at least January.

I read somewhere that there is a global shortage of some computer parts and it can add up to many months extra delay. Presumably they will have stopped taking orders on specs they can’t supply in a reasonable time?

No build week assigned for me so far,  that I know of.  Ordered 18th April, order confirmation email from Skoda received 30th April.

I have not had an "in production" email update, but dealer reckons the car is due in a couple of weeks.

So will wait to see what appears (MY21/MY22) and when. First time I have put in a factory order.

Our son works in Engineering production and has said that most things are in short supply.

Apparently during Covid manufacturers scaled right down as demand was very limited but since we came out of full lockdown there has been unprecedented demand for everything even Steel is in short supply.

I have been waiting 3 months for an electric chain saw, the delivery date keeps slipping. So not just computer chips it seems delivery of many things are problematic.

The factory will be on holiday soon too.

I asked SUK about that yesterday, and they said not. Mind you they could be just lying / don’t know.

Like you I always thought they shutdown for August.

We have a ferry booked for France (all things being equal) that has been delayed for 12 months.

I shall be pressuring my dealer for a courtesy car if mine has not arrived by then.

On what grounds?  Do you have a specific delivery date in the contract?

Even if they lend you a car they probably won't let you take it abroad.

No, I'd expected to be in Brittany by now, ready to watch the first few stages of the Tour de France, but had to cancel. That's the second French holiday we've had to cancel now.

I should have been up near North Cape in Skippy as part of a road trip crossing Europe through Germany and Poland, up through the Baltics then over the sea to Finland.  After North Cape great meander down the spine of Sweden and back through Denmark, Germany and the Low Countries.  20 border crossings in all.  No chance this year, and I very much doubt next year or the year after.   At the mo, and for the foreseeable future, it’s one step forward, three steps back.

Hooray... Just had a call from the dealer, to confirm that if our new car is not available then they will loan us something equivalent or better from the dealer fleet (may be a Skoda / VW/ Audi) and ensure that insurance is all sorted.

Just goes to show that a 'valued' customer does have some 'value'.

Just adding my bit to this.

Ordered 30th June (Karoq SEL 1.5 DSG with ACC and Family Pack)

Order form says estimated delivery of September 16th.

Skoda email saying 'order received' on Friday July 2nd

Build week confirmed for week 33 (w/c August 16th).

I actually tried to amend the order to add canton, but dealer said order was locked in and Skoda UK chat confirmed build week too.

So I'm expecting delivery sometime in September / early October. Skoda chat said 5-7 weeks for delivery from build date.

So there might be hope yet, or my configuration was sufficiently in stock. I could have had the car even sooner apprently if I ordered it in Petrol Blue, but wasn't to my taste. (I chose Quartz Grey).

As long as they build it and the chips are available for your car while thousands are awaiting theirs.

My order history to date is:

Order placed with dealer 28th April (Karoq SE Drive 1.5 DSG with heated front seats, heated windscreen, space saver wheel and rear side airbags)

Dealer estimated build date as mid-July.

Skoda UK email confirmed order on 10th May

Skoda UK email 9th August advising car off production line.

Dealer email 11th August advising they expect car to be with them next week.

The dealer has kept in touch by email approx every 2 weeks advising of its progress.

Mine was due build mid July but today still waiting.  Ordered with digital dash, so going that's only creating small delay as 4 to 6 weeks is ok, but more will start to frustrate

That’s very fast, at dealer next week if built 9th August

Normally it is 1-2 days by train to Emden, then awaiting a ship (few days, sometimes 3-4 weeks), then 3-7 days depending on disport (Sheerness, Humber or Tyne), then upto fortnight for Road transporter (tend to wait for full load, or at least a split load with another dealer in area)

But possibly so few cars coming through, there is not much awaiting space.

I ordered a Karoq SE Drive at the end of July. Estimated handover according to the order form is 31 December. I haven't had any further contact from the dealer yet, so I assume it'll be a while before a build week is allocated.

I also looked at a Ateca, but the dealer was a bit of a flute so I didn't order one. Anyway, he made a big show of telling me that certain Cupra models wouldn't even be built until 2022 if ordered now.

Bear in mind that some salesmen will tell you untruths to prevent you going elsewhere. In particular a Seat salesman, when I told him that I was looking at VW group cars, told me that Skodas do not have a 5 star NCAP rating.

Oh yeah, I'm fully aware of that! This particular Seat salesman told me PCPs were tough for Skoda because of their low residuals. A quick 5 mins comparing deals on Google would tell you that Seat residuals are no better, and more often than not worse than Skoda. You would think someone tasked with selling Cupras at 40 grand a pop would wake up in a cold sweat thinking about residuals!

That said, it's still infuriating that Velvet Red is a £900+ option for a Karoq but a zero cost option for an Ateca.

Not if you go for an Edition like we have. Editions have metallic at no cost (no reduction for 'standard' colours) so Velvet Red is only £300. As my wife will not accept a black, silver or grey car as she considers them boring, we are effectively limited to blue and red. So Velvet Red it is.
