If you need to ask you probably shouldn't be attempting it, it's no laughing matter.

With no mechanical experience I've already done rear disc and pads,  passenger driveshaft, drivers side wishbone..   oh and sub install lol..

The camshaft kit is £250,  god nows what the labour to fit would be lol..

I know its not gonna be easy but Is it really that hard....  just trying to save money lol..  cheers for input..

Don't fancy helping me do ya lol..

Only joking lol..

Dude, just stop with the 'lol' already, this is a serious forum for serious advice otherwise everything just collapses into a clown show of slapstick idiocy where people deliberately give you the wrong advice just for the 'lols' so you end up trashing your engine.

Ok.

Soz about the lols dude,  it's just how I write.. my bad.  Feel like crying tbf that much **** is going on atm..  I wouldn't be writing here if I wasn't serious..

I just wondered if it was possible to follow writen instructions and pics to complete this job..  I've learnt loads from this site..

thats the trouble with forums people dont know how local dialect works stecrump i do as im also black country mate but sepulchrave was right in what he was saying but does not realise its a black country think like mate know what i mean mate :P

Look, I'm from sarf London, however dialect is a spoken medium, not written, we write stuff down so EVERYONE can understand it no matter where they come from. We get tons of foreign visitors here for whom English is not their first language so it is important to be concise and clear when communicating technical ideas.

These are not conversations, those are for soshul meedyah.

Ok.

I can certainly empathise with you. For me, one thing after another has gone wrong this year and at times I just want to collapse in a heap and cry. Sometimes it's so hard to see light at the end of the tunnel.

Hope you're OK dude.

I am ashamed of saying this but its the truth.

If somebody approached me an politely asked for my help explaining what their problem was as best they could in what is probably their second language I would move heaven & earth to help them.

When people approach me and speak in the manner that the OP was written I switch off and shrug my shoulders, eperience has taught me that these types rarely if ever appreciate what people do for them, never any thanks or acknowledgement but no surprise there as if they cannot express their desire I cant expect them to express their gratitude.

As an immigrant myself having to live & work in a foreign language I fully understand the difficulties that other nationals may have but I also know that when writing or typing you have all the time in the world to think, reflect, consider your words, use a dictionary or google if need be, there really is no valid reason to write in the manner you might speak to your pals in the pub, operating with a limited vocabulary in a second language face to face I know how important it is to be polite, respectfull etc it is to get the other person on my side to interpret my basic and often incorrect speech and to want to help me and not dismiss me.

I am ashamed to admit that I see many requests for help or info on this forum that I dismiss because of the manner they are written in their mother tongue where I would normally be the first to respond.

The video wino provided will show you what needs to be done, its a good video, it shows what he calls the 'advance method' which means you don't have to take the tandem pump off.

You of course need to re-time the engine so you will need the locking pins etc to do it properly, also a puller to get the cam sprocket off.

Check the rocker shaft to make sure the oil gallery plugs are still in place, if they are missing you lose oil pressure to the top of the engine which cause wear on the camshaft/followers.

If you feel confident give it a go, I would plan on 6-8 hours to get it done if you have never replaced one before.

Thanks dude...    I'm starting to realise its quite a hard job..

As I'm out of work atm I ain't got the money to pay someone to do it,  so I ain't got no choice really..  I've got to do it...  thanks for the message.

You will be able to do it, you clearly have the aptitude having tackled what you already have without any prior knowledge or experience.

The most important asset you have is that you knew to ask for advice before starting, that is something it has taken me a lifetime to acquire, when I was young I truly believed that I knew everything.

Good luck with it and don't hesitate to stop and ask if you come across something that you are unsure of.

Its all good mate and there are some really knowledgeable guys on this site they have got me out of the fens pools  duck pond a few times haha you will know what that means :)

I understand and I'm sorry you're having a tough time, I wasn't trying to be rough but replacing the cam is a big job and you'll need some special tools to lock it all up.

You also need to worry about why the cam needs replacing, it's usually down to the wrong oil used in an oil change, first thing you need to do is see how much metal glitter there is in the sump, if a lot comes out with the oil then you might be better off just swapping out the whole engine.
