MIB2 retrofit on an MY2015 L&K

Would the virtual cluster be the fully digital dashboard or the color display in the middle? However, I would like the central color display to work. By the way, does this also work with androidauto (googlemaps) navigation, or only work with OEM?

The small color display between the two "analogue" instrument is the coloured maxidot display, the Virtual cluster (or sometimes named as virtual cockpit) is the fully digital instrument set. The maxidot works only with the OEM sw, android auto or carplay information cannot be displayed there.

  • Not too fussed about the connect devices as things go - as long as I can get to Siri and Waze through CarPlay I’ll be happy! 😂

  • Let me know your VIN on PM and I will list options you have.

  • @RobMac1, shall keep you posted! The amp  just came from a breakers - it’s a little knocked around but (apparently) tested in good working order; it’s off a Superb but they’re the same part so nothing

Hey @pab567 I'd like your assistance please :)

TMBKE9NE9F0138714 - I'm located in Australia, is it an issue?

I have Canton & I don't have smartlink. I'd like to have Android Auto please.

To the question you will ask, I'm only after OEM navigation & if possible in cluster:
- Video playback from DVD, USB, SD
- CD playback
- OEM navigation
- displaying OEM maps in Virtual Cluster (Active Info Display).

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Australia is not an issue at all :)

You have Columbus MIB1 part number 5E0035045D, without DAB, without SIM, USB part number 5Q0035726C and unfortunately you have CANTON amplifier. To get OEM navigation and possibility to display OEM maps in Virtual Cluster (Active Info Display) the best option IMHO is Amundsen part numer 5Q0035864C / 565035864. Unfortunately you have to replace CANTON amplifier as well. If you want to have Apple CarPlay supported as well you need to exchange USB port, too.

If you are interested pls contact me on PM.

Hi @pab567 I'm looking to replace the headunit in my Octavia A7. The VIN is TMBBJKNE8DAOO6909. Fortunately, mine doesn't have a Canton system. I would simply love to upgrade to MIB 2 with the 8" screen.

Looking forward to your advise on this.

So now you have Bolero MIB1, with Bluetooth, without DAB, without MOST, without RVC support, part number 5E0035819A, with Media In port and, as you mentioned, fortunately you don't have CANTON sound system.

You can install one of four different OEM glove box units:

- MIB2 Bolero

- MIB2 Amundsen

- MIB2 Columbus

- MIB2.5 Columbus

You also need to replace display unit:

- for MIB2 Bolero you can use either 6.5" model number 5E0919605H or 8" model number 5E0919605N

- for MIB2 Amundsen and MIB2 Columbus you can use listed above display as well as 6.5" model number 5E0919605J, 8" model number 5E0919606, 8" model number 5E0919605M

- for MIB2.5 Columbus the only display unit that works is 5E0919606D

Media In interface must be replaced with USB port, either with or without CarPlay support.

The question is what is your budget and which of listed below features are "must have":

- Video playback from DVD, USB, SD

- CD playback

- OEM navigation

- displaying OEM maps in Virtual Cluster (Active Info Display).

All units support SmartLink (Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, MirrorLink), rear view camera, voice command. features that differ them:

- MIB2 Bolero - no OEM navigation, no CD/DVD drive, no video playback from SD/USB

- MIB2 Amundsen - OEM navigation, no CD/DVD drive, no video playback from SD/USB, support for displaying OEM maps in Active Info Display (Virtual Cluster)

- MIB2 Columbus - OEM navigation, CD/DVD drive, video playback from SD/USB, no support for displaying OEM maps in Active Info Display (Virtual Cluster)

- MIB2.5 Columbus - OEM navigation, CD/DVD drive, video playback from SD/USB, support for displaying OEM maps in Active Info Display (Virtual Cluster)

Hi @pab567 I'm looking to replace the units only because I need Android Auto support along with the USB port for charging my mobile on the go. I think I'll be good with MIB2 Amundsen with the 8" display 5E0919605M. Also, I'm located in India. Please let me know if you have anyone who can source the parts for me here in India or if you can ship it over here. If not, I'm also okay with getting the parts shipped to UK as I have a friend residing over there.

As I'm a newbie on the forum, I don't have the PM option enabled yet. Please let me know if I can contact you via email or Whatsapp to discuss further regarding the price. Thank you!

Hi there @pab567 .. I'm loving your knowledge and hoping you can help with information of what I'll need to get Carplay and Android Auto working in this car .. ye VIN is TMBKC9NE1F0176363

You don't need to replace display unit unless you want to retrofit MIB2.5 Columbus as the only display unit that works with it is 5E0919606D.

If you woulkd like to use Apple CarPlay then you also have to replace USB port.

The question is what is your budget and which of listed below features are "must have":

- MIB2.5 Columbus - OEM navigation, CD/DVD drive, video playback from SD/USB, support for displaying OEM maps in Active Info Display (Virtual Cluster)

- Video playback from DVD, USB, SD = don't care

- CD playback = don't care

- OEM navigation = would be nice but not necessary

- displaying OEM maps in Virtual Cluster (Active Info Display) = would be nice but not needed

CARPLAY and ANDROID AUTO = yes, must have

If I give you other VINs can you tell me if they have the suitable parts

WVWZZZAUZJW026509

WVWZZZAUZJW140513

These ones for example?

They're both VWs, I don't think the screen won't fit an Octavia as the shape/size is different.

Skoda are way less common here in Australia. I was hoping I could keep the screen I've got and just upgrade the MIB unit if that's possible?

MIB1 screens have a different screen refresh rate to MIB2 screens and glovebox units - so using a MIB1 screen with a MIB2 glovebox unit doesn't work.

Damn 😕

That's not entirely truth. MIB1 Bolero and MIB1 Amundsen display have RESOLUTION (not refresh rate - refresh rate is the same) of 400x240 so can't be used with MIB2 units as they have resolution of 800x480. MIB1 Columbus display (5E0919606) has resolution 800x480 so the same as MIB2 AMundsen / Bolero / Columbus so it CAN be used with these units.

MIB2.5 Columbus has a resolution of 1024x600 and it works ONLY with display 5E0919606D.

I meant resolution, but thanks for the clarification.

@pab567

Hello, sorry to bother you, but the internet seemingly agrees that you are the leading expert on Skoda infotainment systems.

I just got a 2021 KAROQ SE L, I was wondering whether I could upgrade the screen into the larger 9.2” Columbus from the currently installed 8" Bolero.

I’ve seen a few units on eBay and was wondering if it’s a plug and play kind of job. Also if you have any input on upgrading the analog instrument cluster to the virtual dashboard, I’d greatly appreciate that too.

VIN?

Unfortunately you already have MIB3 unit part number 3V0035820D - I don't deal with MIB3 units so cannot help you :(

Not to worry!

A user on Reddit did say if it was the same MIB number it should just be a plug and play job. I’ll continue my own research!

Thanks for getting back to me so promptly!
