Pedal Response improvement VCDS

Featured Replies

As I understand it there are 2 options that you can do via coding for throttle response tweak

1) Change engine profile to Audi from default (can break ACC)

2) Driving profile switchover to linear

I wanted to understand what the difference between the two is?

Has anyone done 1 or both..?

Done neither .  Put a pedal box on my  MK3 petrol sportline 3 years ago. Calibrated it to my own personal setting & never had to touch it it since.

Done only the 2nd one. It reduced slightly the response time.

Be careful with the 1st one if you have DCC. Some owners complained of side effects with this mod.

@Bap33 I do have DCC side effects like what? Reversible I hope...I did a quick search and people mentioned not being able to switch profile for Dcc. No mention of if it's reversible .

@Matchman55 I get that pedal box is the go-to option for most. I'd like to do it via coding first to get those marginal gains but even if I don't, I'm not that bothered to go buy a pedal box as it stands

I tried the VCDS mods on mine but didn’t notice any difference. A pedal box however makes a huge difference though still can’t account for the DSG wanting to constantly change to the highest gear possible so when going up a hill it’s in 4th instead of 3rd so it’s either give it more throttle and then it drops down or slow down involuntarily. Manually dropping back to 3rd solves it with no additional throttle input but the pedal box definitely is an improvement over standard. Every time I’ve switched it off to try and see it soon gets put back on again!

I did the second one - it made a slight improvement, which I'm happy with.

I didn't do the Audi mode as explained by @Bap33

@mfizz Sorry I can't remember, what the side effects are. I just kept in mind they may happen. Thus I decided to avoid running into trouble... ;)

I think that settles it. I will just change it to a linear profile. I think @Gizmo changed his to Audi without any side effects.

Oh dear.. are you saying its all placebo lol?

It doesn't seem the driving profile switchover actually changes the throttle response :)

It certainly made a noticeable difference for my Superb.

No placebo effect for sure.

maybe :)

but single click backward by DSG lever gives lot more and when required

Enjoying that!

all new VW Auto Group models going to lose DSG lever 😞

I'll do the switch and see if it makes a difference.. what the worse that can happen? my driving profiles which i hardly change switch over a bit quicker😘

I will try to set driving profile to "individual" and see if I can find a combination that fits me.

@mfizz

me too on "Individual", but just for positions "DCC" and "Steering",
because "Drive"s `Sport` mode keeps never-ending long third gear
for "Drive" i prefer `Normal`

then different modes can be quickly accessed by short move of DSG lever -
backward(D<>S) to activate `Sport` for sharper starts or to brake by engine,
forward(N) to activate coasting, which is equal as `Eco`

that with DSG6 DQ250 FWD 2.0 TSI 220ps

Interesting graphs but they wouldn't show if there was a different time lag between pedal input and throttle opening in each mode

Mine too, wish I could get 2 or 3 times as much improvement again though

There's a much longer thread here: https://www.vwvortex.com/threads/logging-direct-throttle-vcds-obdeleven-tweak.9392853/

It also shows the difference changing "driving profile switchover" does make - namely to how the driving profile changes as it's name suggests ;)

There is a youtube clip here too:

Have you though about getting a DSG remap?  It raises the torque limit on the DSG to take full advantage of the power/torque from an engine remap / pedal box and makes gear changes faster.

Mine isn’t remapped and won’t be for at least another year until the warranty is up and it’s paid for so I certainly don’t need to be remapping the dsg at similar cost! It’s perfectly fine day to day and easy to overcome the limitations when you are aware of them when needed like the paddle shifters or going into manual or sport

+1 for me too.

Prior to getting Eibach Prokit springs, I was always in Individual mode with the settings below, similar to urs

@MartiniB.

After I got the Eibach springs, I was in Normal mode most of the time, except when I was tackling a very bumpy road, or lots of speed bumps.

After I got the DCC recalibration done, I'm always in Normal mode now. I rarely put the car in Sport mode unless I'm tackling windy twisty roads.

@JR RSI see you too have Acc set to sport. Why is that ? Real test of ACC for me is how it comes to a hard stop. I always found eco breaking a little too late for my liking.. and never tried sport considering that everything in sport would be quick harsh movements. I like the breaking from the ACC to be as smooth as possible.. you've chosen sport does this perform better than the others?

setting the ACC to sport is more about how quickly it gets to the set cruise control speed.

its nothing to do with how late it brakes.  there is a different setting for this in the assist menus.

when set to ECO, the car (ACC) will take a lifetime to resume to the set speed.

it will also start slowing down necessarily way too early despite the car ahead being far away.

its annoying, especially on freeways.

I changed the profile to Audi without any problems.

What model year and variant is your car?

Did both changes with OBD eleven using the coding (not one click) no issues. MY17 280.

Very hard to tell but if coasting if you tickle the throttle you can feel the car shift almost instantly. I think the main pause is turbo lag as most cruising happens <2000rpm and nithing really happens till 2500rpm. Using sport mode to cruise at 3000rpm then mashing it gives a much quicker pick up. Still nothung like the instant surge from a big engined (or light) N/A manual car.

As per my profile - 2016 280
