Hi everyone,

 

As my short warranty comes to an end, I've already started planning for what's to come. Since it's a daily and family car, the plan is to go no further than a stage 1 ECU tune, alongside a DSG tune to solve some of the drivability issues with the stock TCU tune. Ideally, I'd like a matching pair, made by the same tuner.

 

My issues comes when attempting to compare and read up on reviews of the three I'm currently considering: Revo, TVS and RacingLine. Already coming from, and still having, a heavily modified APR car, as well as being on this side of the pond for a change, I'd like to stick with the European-based tuners.

To start, I know Revo is probably the biggest of the three, especially with the large number of UK vRS owners on the forum. However, it's their DSG tune that I'm not too keen on, based on the feedback I've seen so far.

 

As for TVS, being the most recent to ECU tuning, it's always a big question mark. However their stage 1 tune is a very mild power bump, with their stage 2 being more comparable to the competitors' stage 1 tunes, so that would be the only scenario where a higher-level is in consideration. Being the best known DQ transmission specialists, I have no doubts regarding their DSG tune (stage 2+ being the one in consideration) though.

 

Finally, for what I find to be the best marketed of the three, RacingLine, previously known as VWR. When it comes to their marketing talk and website, they have me sold. Knowing that their tune is also the old Shark Performance one - assuming nothing has changed since - and the raving reviews that tune has from the members on this forum, I'm also sold. However, the lack of posts/reviews since the acquisition/name change on any forum, but for the MK7 R, is a little odd. There also seems to be nearly no reviews of their DQ250 DSG tune.

Personally, I'm looking to keep things as close to stock, but with a small improvement in power and transmission logic. I want to keep the differentiation between D and S, not a tune that applies the same shift points to both. Ideally, instead of fixed shift points, it'd react to the inputs being given at that point in time.

 

As for other future plans, the car will get a drop-in air filter, maybe a cat-back exhaust, and some spring and wheels, but nothing past that level. As for dealers, at least two of the three tunes will be difficult to get on the car, since I'm all the way in Warsaw, so it has no effect on who I'm leaning towards.

 

Please let me know of your feedback and experiences with these tuners and what your recommendation moving forward would be.

Racingline all the way mate. Their maps and tcu maps are superb.. yes one of the software developers (Ben) is the guy who used to own shark. I’ve had a shark map on old octavia  and now racingline map on my superb. 
stunning and longevity too.. mines done over 120k so far with the map and no bother at all

That's great to hear, thanks @Esseesse200! Any feedback on their DSG tune, or are you running it on the stock DSG map?

Anyone else with recommendations or feedback on this topic?

As the date to potentially do this starts approaching, anyone else have some feedback regarding the TSI tunes?

Hi just wanted to ask which tuner did u eventually go with ? I’m having the same dilemma.

I’ve decided on RacingLine for both ECU and TCU, but haven’t had the chance to get them flashed yet since the nearest OEM+ dealer is in the next country over and I haven’t had the chance to drive there yet. 
If you’re okay with mixing and matching tunes, you can’t go wrong the TVS TCU tune as well, but I was looking for a one-tuner solution for both.

There is something very very very wrong with that graph, am I the only one to see it?

 

Maybe I am misinterpreting it, is it supposed to be the before and after power & torque curves from the same vehicle?

No, I'm even more confused now, I wrote in more detail in the other thread.

The graph is a little confusing because both the power and torque are in the same color, so with two lines in each color and two different sets of values on the Y-axis - one to the left and one to the right - it becomes hard to read. 

If it makes it a bit easier to understand, the line that peaks early on is the torque curve, the one that peaks much later on, is the power curve.

 

Nevertheless, congratulations @RoddersUK! Was it a hub or roller dyno? If it was the latter, did you experience any wheel spin? The curve has a few more dips throughout the rev range than I would've expected.

I've not really booted it that much, lots of traffic around, but off the line I put my foot down in second and the TC kicked in.

Yeah, I just meant on the dyno to explain those minor dips throughout the graph. These cars really struggle to put the power down from a standstill when you're on the road. Hope you enjoying it!

I had mine remapped with racingline OEM+ this week...very different torque profile. 

Yours follows the racinglines example nicely, not sure why I have that huge torque peak, unless they swapped my engine for a diesel lol.

440NM is around what they say you should see.

Thanks for sharing the graph guys! I can’t decide between TVS or Racingline. Do you guys get some pops and bangs after the remap as well? 

Not tried them yet, but it says it should!

REVO makes a good stage 1 tune for 2.0 TDI engines, been running it for 1 year, no problems

No hardware modifications needed....and there are REVO dealers everywhere
