I emailed Michelin and this was their reply. I explained that it was being sold at Quikfit and Mytyres.  I will give Kwik fit an email too.

Thank you for contacting MICHELIN!

I regret to confirm that there is not MICHELIN CROSSCLIMATE 2 in the mentioned size(215 50 R18) and we do not have estimated date of release either unfortunately, according to our database.

  • Tyres, especially in uncommon sizes often only come in one speed rating per brand, the volumes are low enough, so no advantage in making both a 210 and a 240km/h version.   You can go up in speed rati

  • I believe JR was actually referring to homologated rim diameter and width and tyre width / profile and speed rating, as opposed to a specific manufacturer and tyre...

Michelin haven't updated their database, because the Michelin CrossClimate 2 215/50R18 92W is being sold by camskill, blackcircles, and mytyres, and probably many other sellers.

OK Cool. Thanks.

Normally in life if you are not sure if a manufacturer sells a product - the manufacturer would know when you went to the bother to reach out to them.  Looks like Michelin are the exception to the normal rule.  Bit crazy if you ask me but - hey - its their business.

Most firms are having Covid-19 related problems. Supply chains aren't running as efficiently as they were pre-Covid days.

so...... finally - I got the tyres changed over.  A shiny new set of 4  Michelin Crossclimate 2 SUV -  215/50 R18 92W

For reference - Cost was £580 odd quid after the £50 Michelin cashback offer from ASDA (fited locally).

Just adjusted the cold pressures (as the garage set them to 38psi) - I popped them down to 32psi and will report back here in a month or two once they are bedded in and I can get to see how they feel 🙂

I feel a lot happier now that I have got rid of the awful Bridgestone Turanza t001's that liked to spin up at the merest bit of dampness and did not feel at all safe when cornering at speed in the cold and/or wet.  I know its an odd time of the year to change over to all season tyres but...  The fronts only had a smidge under 2mm of meat left (rears around 5mm) - due to all that damp weather wheelspinning with the DSG (and the 1st MOT is due in July) so I took the plunge sooner rather than later.  Obviously going from Summer to All Season's I had to do all 4 corners. I guess I could have tried to flog the 2 rear Turanza's on fleabay or similar but life is too short.  I let the garage have them to do with what they liked 🙂

Cheers,

Paul

IMO & IME that is a pretty low pressure to run them at this time of years on dry warm roads or even wet ones.

Easy enough once the newness is off to run them at a bit of higher pressure to see if traction / grip, steering and braking and handling feels safe or the pressure needs dropping.

For those  looking I did a check on the Halfords website the other day and the choices for 4 season tyres has increased quite a bit since checking the tail end of last year. I guess supply problems / good weather has meant more choices now available.

I reckon I will need 2 new ones before my MOT in August.

I am still running a pair of Original Bridgestone Turanza T001which were on the rear and were switched to front in August 2018 when I got a pair of Michelin Cross Climate SUV and had them put on the rear at 27,261 miles.

Not bad over 40,000 on a set of tyres. Not sure how I have managed that, I guess careful driving....

I will check Asda out for prices...

Hi Roottoot.

I was really going by the type plate in the fuelcap.  It states:

image.png.8e4ccb38aca433daf76af6e9a47c0243.png

2.1Bar = 30.4psi

32psi (my pressure) = 2.2Bar

Interestingly I was running at 35psi (2.4Bar) and when I took it in for a service at VAG they actually reduced the pressures all around to approx. 30psi

I never asked them about the tyres etc.  They just did it of their own bat.

When I ran at 2.5Bar (which I did for a while) - the steering felt very light and the traction was abysmal.  Obviously that was with the Turnza's and I don't know a whole lot about the Michelin Crossclimate 2's but it seems 32 is is about right ??  Open to ideas though.

Cheers,

Paul

Out of interest. Did you see the comments on various forums and youtube tests about mixing All Season with Summer tyres on the same car.  Most say it is a big No-No.  That's why I replaced all 4. > This is mixing Summer and Winter tyres but I think the same applies to Summer and All-Season too.

Nope, just watched the video and he has winter tyres at front not 4 season.

4 seasons are to be used during summer as well so not sure its a big issue? Either way I will end up with 4 x 4 season tyres and not had any problems with a mix the last 2 years. Maybe I was just lucky or we didn't have any serious winter conditions to be affected?

I admit - that was a bit extreme (the video). But it scared me enough to shell out the extra (apart from hating the Turanza's with a passion that is). 🙂

Why?  They're all season.

I'm exactly with you. Unless the car is going to be fully loaded, I default to around 32psi.  I'm running 19" All season's on the Karoq and so far they're acting the same as the All season's on my previous car. They're quieter than the summers but handling in dry conditions is worse. If I take a mini roundabout slightly faster than I should, I can feel the steering less direct than on summers. When the pressures are higher than 32psi with normal loads, my cars do a good impression of Wilko Johnson in his hey day. :D

Ha ha!!

with the 19's isn't the lowest figure is meant to be 2.4 (34.8psi)?   (that is what it says on my 2wd Karoq at any rate): image.png.ebc4b7d2817707f97984b9c81e0e187c.png

The Michelins are soooooo much quieter than the old Turanza's for general roar and the potholes are definately softer.  It's like a different car.

Not enough miles on the clock yet to judge MPG dropoff but I'm fully prepared for around 10%. Anything better than that will be a bonus.

The wheelspin (so far) seems non-existent (but I've not not tested it at my "nemesis" uphill T junction in damp conditions yet as I want to scrub them in properly for a few weeks).

Very pleased indeed!

Do the Michelins have an 'anti-kerbing' ridge like the Turanzas, please?

On what I saw the other day at a dealers, certainly not much - one thing the turanzas are good for is really good rim protection

Thanks for the comment. Whenever I have looked at tyre specs, I haven't yet seen a manufacturer that mentions rim protection as a plus point for a particular tyre.

Apologies for the filthy Alloys but I hope this helps a bit.

These are the SUV CC2's and while there is no marking "FP" or "CPJ" on them (which I am led to believe is the Michelin lingo for rim protection) - they do stick out a fair bit from the Alloy and they do have a reasonable lip on them. Maybe Michelin don't mark them up anymore???  I put some tape on to show the gap:

Today I had to do a "foot to the floor" exit from a dry T junction and no wheel spin. On the same junction in teh same conditions I have had a few occasions where the Turanza's lit up and Traction Control kicked in.  this was on 50% lock to turn right. I am well impressed! These things are night and day to the Turanza's.  Don't delay - just do it!! 🙂
