Oil level too high warning - Karoq 1.5tsi

Featured Replies

I’ve a 2021  model with 5k on the clock. A warning light came on a few weeks ago advising the oil level was too high. I rang the local service manager who’d never heard of this happening. A Skoda technician came out to check and said it was a known fault on these engines as the seals to the high pressure pump behind the cylinder head were known to fail allowing petrol to contaminate the oil. He said the pump had been redesigned to remove the problem.  After 3 weeks waiting for a pump I got the car back last week and ran it around on the fuel in the tank until today when it needed refuelling. After 15miles the light came back on and the same issue has occurred so the car has to go back in again. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I’m somewhat cheesed off to say the least! Can it be a coincidence it’s failed soon after refuelling?

Welcome.

A service manager knowing nothing about issues with vehicles is not surprising.

If the Technician knew then there is a TPI that the Service Manager never checked on.

There have been posts about too much oil in engines & a warning message but nobody saying that they were told there was an issue with the 1.5 TSI's and an upgraded part that i have seen.

Thanks, I’m hoping there’s some more info about this issue as I’m not confident that the dealer will sort it, my experience on a previous Skoda was that their default position was always to deny that there was a problem and give a large helping of BS!

I had the same message a few months ago, the highs peen fuel pump was faulty and was allowing fuel to mix in with the oil raising the oil level in the engine causing the warning message.

new pump was fitted and been fine ever since. I was told it’s a known fault by the dealership

Thanks, I’ve had one HP pump replaced (so I was told) but the problem has happened again. It’s back in the dealers so will see what happens

I wonder how much petrol is added to the oil before the warning comes on?

I can’t be good for an engine to have oil mixed with petrol sloshing around.

I hope the dealers are doing a full engine flush and oil change when this happens.

On both occasions it looks as if about 1/4-1/2 litre triggers the warning, as it’s happened twice I’m concerned as to whether it’s likely to affect the engine life (it’s only done 5k)

Bore Wash was and still is an issue with some Euro 5 1.4 TSI / TFSI 132-136kW Twinchargers.

When the petrol was getting in the oil or a driver noticed the oil level getting higher or a garage / technician said the driver had over filled the oil it was a simple check.

Dip the oil, take the dipstick away from the car and hold a flame near it and the petrol in the oil ignited rather easily.

Same thing happened with TDI's / Diesels that had leaky injectors and again VW Group Dealerships Employees and even Master Techs sometimes blamed the driver,

sometimes even the Warranty Managers tried it on.

Fuel diluting the Oil is never a good thing.

VW GROUP will deny that they ever put diesel in the engine oil before cars / vehicles were put in for the NEDC.

The petrol has already done the flushing, I use 50% parafin 50% cheap engine oil for flushing barn find engines or for my own vehicles I will drain half the sump oil & refill with parafin.

Did you get the issue fixed?

They’ve checked the new pump, all seemed ok, replaced an injector and asked me to run it for 200 m or so then take it back for checking. I’m left with a feeling that they’re not sure they’ve nailed the problem! I’ll post when more news
