the truth about electric cars

Na, not on smartphone, you normally have swipe the touch sensor on the screen in a certain direction to answer it and even worse to make a call. On the old button phones you could set up 1 button calling for your 10 most common calls.

On the 2 way radios they use on these channels, you just have a long large button/lever on the side that you squeeze when you talk and release to listen, thats it.

Not heard of them before, I'll take a peek later. Good luck in the footy tpnight.

I have not an i-phone. Android.  I take all my pictures now with the glasses and voice control.

Answer calls and make them without being via the car.

Something wrong with his device or use.

I get wide pictures and videos as i set up the system. i do not touch the button on the arm to take pictures or videos i do that by voice.

If i want more than 60 seconds vid i can touch the button.

I get good sound in an out on calls.  The volume is touch sensitive on the arm of the glasses.

I put the glasses on the top of my head and if i need to take a picture and put them on my nose the picture can be instand.

There are Apps that might tell you in advance and be accurate.

Some very much better than others, but that still can not be relied on if you want to risk it for a biscuit and run to near no range.

Once you have been at facilities and have gained some knowledge you might be more confident on what you are about to encounter at that location.

There are vehicles and phones that work better than others for info, and there are still crap Phone Reception areas, and that is also an issue with Chargers & SIM cards and Communications.   Even phone reception to a 'Support call centre'.

Unbelievable but Mobile Phone Reception at Edinburgh Airport park and ride can be pathetic as was CPS / SWARCO in Broughty Ferry's communication with the chargers.

I've been thinking quite a bit about the charge anxiety thing and came up with this (probably not original and rather obvious to boot).

If you always fill up your ICE car at your local petrol station (assuming it is not a price rip off) then you probably can easily cope swapping to EV and home charging. If you fill up more at other stations (I reckon I fill up 1/3 at home and 2/3s on the road) then you probably won't make much fuel saving in costs and recharging is something that might well be more than a little inconvenient.

I think this video is pretty relevant to mindset of people, including myself:

Illusory truth, where repetition of false information will eventually become truth if not careful.

Conformational bias, where people seek comfort in confirming their existing views and not seek out up-to-date info or even truth.

In closing, it talks about ways to avoid such polarising tribalism behaviour. One thing I noted is how proving people wrong actually triggers people's defence and less likely to change people's minds, especially in internet setting.

So learning from this informative video. I plan to stop trying to prove people wrong. I will take a back seat with direct responses and only share truths that I find worth sharing.

Despite all the negative criticism of VW cars, it would appear that are making the most economical and efficient EV car?

So if VW can get the batteries then they can turn out thousands of the SEAT & Skoda and get them First Registered and they are sorted on the 22% of EV,s needed for sales.  The factory is there in Bratislava so what is the issue????  No profits, but they will lose less than not making the 22%.

Cybernet Security issues is why not as far as i can see as the reason.

They were making the e-Up, then improved the 2nd generation (more range) & Mii electric and Citigo iV and the prices were attracting buyers, what a shame that Skoda UK were stopped from importing more than 400 Citigo iV,s.

But then they messed up a bit with the charging of them, and some Mii electrics,,  All fixed on all cars hopefully now.

Where is the logic of European car makers making electric cars that hardly ever need servicing, looking like they will last for decades rather than there present vehicles that might just last a decade or decade and a half before they become a potential liability ie the turbo goes and that £5k car becomes worthless.

Chinese will keep making EVs and with new EV batteries getting substantial better each year, self driving software, as TELSA is producing.  Electric Viking brings this to a short video....

EVs picked up at the docks, as RSEV and definatelynotaguru has, maybe jsut visit in the garage every 2 years for pollen filter change and checkover but probably no other parts needed....

Is this an exmple of an ev (Tesla) owner's attitude to maintenance and using the MOT test as a guide. Not even bothering with advisories?

@Stonekeeper I can see nothing wrong in those test reports, anything that was needing urgent attention was dealt with, the other advisories are not bad enough to warrant attention straight away and even at the next test, they may not be bad enough to need attention, or may not even get mentioned again as another tester might deem them as OK.

I have experienced this myself, on my last car it was highlighted as having one of the front coil springs excessively corroded. My dealer looked at it and said it was a little bit of surface rust and did not need fixing. It was never mentioned on the next 2 subsequent tests.

An article popped up on my phone about the New MINI electric being built in China possibly having the highest rate tariff imposed.   Sounds fair enough if that is what will be happening with others.  But only time will tell.

Those advisories/ fails/ passes could equally apply to a non EV owner.

It looks like the highest rate is for state owned SAIC ie MG, MAXUS etc and there are several companies who have not opened their books to the EU Auditors yet. BYD look the least effected.

The rapidly dropping price of lithium batteries will mean much lower import prices and the Chinese car and van companies will probably do a mass release of the tens of thousands of cars in the customs warehouse compounds in the EU.

Not heard what the UK is doing but in many regards the UK still matches or closely follows the EU's customs tariff. Car Most Favoured Nation tariff is 10% in both, Anti Dumping, Countervailing and Retaliatory duties do vary but I think UK will do something. UK GE may delay UK response. Could be a nice new source of revenue for EU and eventually UK.

maybe a good deal. mileage a bit high for my taste but as long as the cabin filter has been changed sounds like a bargain?

Partnership deal under joint shares I think so maybe only less Countervailing duty, all depends on what appears in their company accounts as a export credit.

Have not heard how the export credit system works ie percentage of export value or puer unit or what.

Use to be to gain foreign currency but not needed so much anymore as most Chinese exports are paid for in USD though this is change and USD pay lose its Reserve currency sometime soon.  It has just lost the oil link with Saudi etc so the 21st ie Asian century is unfolding.

Similarly, I had an "advisory" of "fuel tank straps corroded" in December one year. The testing garage kept the car over Christmas whilst awaiting a new light switch. The advisory did not recur when they retested the car after fitting the new switch, nor in any subsequent test. The tank straps were not replaced.

With the small VW EVs being (apparantly) the most efficient EV cars you can buy today, could it be that we need lighter cars, smaller battery packs and a combination of smaller more fuel efficient, cleaner ICE engines working with an electric motor to effectively reduce emissions overall?

The Hyundai Ionic 28kWh really efficient and not so small a car.

A good aero shape where as most EVs are city car shape, like the Zoe or very SUV shape and all tall cars.

Good efficiency can be obtained if one is patient and cruise at 60 mph or below but if one runs at 70/75 then a very difference story. Zoe can do 300 miles or even 400 miles on a charge at urban speeds.  Less good at motorway max speeds.
