12v Battery

Featured Replies

Before I but a CTEK battery conditioner (for when the car lies idle for extended periods), can anyone  tell me what type of 12v batteries are fitted in these Octavia iVs? I asked two dealers but neither of them know. One of them thinks it is a gel battery. The manual tells me the 12v battery should not be accessed by me (the owner of the car!) so I can't even look at it.

I'm not great with super-recent cars and which is which (what are the 7th and 8th digit of your VIN?), but if I've navigated to the correct page here: LLLParts

Then your battery will either be EFB if it's one of the first two part numbers (usually visible on the top surface) and AGM if it's the third one.

Without looking at it, it may be hard to see such a part number, but I suspect the manual can be ignored without significant peril to you or the car.

Thank you. EFB which, as I understand it, is a sub-set of lead-acid technology. So a CTEK MXS 5.0 should do the job.

As it will have Stop/fart it will most likely be an AGM but the ctek 5 or NOCO Genius 5 will be suitable to keep it refreshed

It doesn't have Stop/Start.

Oh yes it does ....🤗( if its a mk4)

Look at the top of the battery, pull the top cover open if there is one. And look for printed in large bold letters...

EFB

EFB+ or

AGM

It's the PHEV (iV)  he has so no S/S in the traditional sense.

My point precisely. The fact that the ICE stops simply means electric drive has taken over and remains active until I press Stop. And while we're at it, I think we should stop calling these cars "Mk4". The correct designation is "iV". "i" as we know from many other devices = digital/electronic, and "V" = vehicle. Makes sense, no?

Not necessarily, Skoda fitted EFB batteries to many(most?) Octavia 3's with stop/start. Why? They're cheaper than AGM batteries B)

Thank you. EFB

Am I correctly interpreting this as "I checked/looked and it is an EFB battery"?
