What Generation Ea888 engine do I have please?

Featured Replies

Good afternoon.

I have searched online but conflicting answers of course.

I have a 2012 Skoda Superb Elegance 2.0 TSI CCZA engine, my question is, Gen 1 or Gen 2 please?

Thank you.

There aren't two generations of the CCZA engine. The one before it, as fitted to the Octavia MK2 RS, had engine code BWA.

The next 2.0 litre RS petrol engine that was fitted to the Octavia MK3 was called a EA888-Gen3 engine.

Comparing the CCZA and CHHB engines, the torque went from 280Nm to 350Nm...that a very big 25% increase in torque. Of course, with just front wheel drive, putting the power down when you've got 220PS of power and 350Nm of torque can sometimes be a problem. Maybe the lower powered 200PS/280Nm engine isn't such a bad idea after all...

CCZA is a gen 2, but almost identical to the gen 1 apart from some slight tweaks to the emissions. The main issue is that we have the early cam chain tensioners so it's either wait and see if they fail or replace.

Evening,

I just had my 50k service, car is running perfectly, sparks looked normal for their age, replaced with VW ones same as the oil filter. Perfect service history from day one.

Having done the research I am going to leave my tensioner alone for now, my car is the standard 200bhp, seems the VRS has the most issues. If I get a hint of a metallic sound on start up then I will reconsider.

I am pleased you will have the peace of mind with yours.

Nice one, cheers, I've just ordered some APR coils and NGK plugs, might not make any difference, I guess I'll see!  I think I'm addicted to throwing money away!! 😂😂😂

You just can't beat a proper service history.

I am considering new coils or a solution to the car wallowing a lot.

I live on fast country roads with no traffic so get to have fun on corners, the standard shocks are not very good, far to soft.

Do you have the latest part number for the tensioner please?

My sparks were VW iridiums, 20k in and  they looked spot on, they tell you a lot about your engine eh.

I don't have the part numbers yet, but when I collect it in a fortnight they should be on the invoice so I can let you know then. I thought exactly the same as you with reference to the handling, so I went ahead after a lot of research and bought the Bilstein B14 kit (BLS47-127708) Is the code Demon Tweeks gave me, it has transformed the car, it handles amazingly. Over a grand but worth it, I've had an S6 before and this is almost identical. Interestingly, the box turned up with both Bilstein and SEAT logos on it so it must have been standard equipment on something they did at some point.

The shocks have the following part number (I'm sure you could buy them separately) F4-BE3-C772-H3. I'm running 19" Audi alloys with 10mm spacers and 235/35/19 Uniroyals. Really can't fault the handling.

Thank you for the info, much appreciated.

Your car looks great, I like the wheels, I just have the standard Thermistos, couple of scuffs that were not caused by myself as we don't have curbs where I live, they bug me though.

My new suspension will be soon, I am just picking the right moment to break the news....
