You can

I really don't think that the warranty is at all jeopardised by this.

It's an official VAG part bought from them. I can't see Skoda voiding people's warranties because of this, and seeing as it is an official part, i cant see how it's possible for them to void the warranty anyway.

for the 14mm fix yes, but not the 9mm as I've been reading in the last 50 pages...this voids your warranty no?

Sorry, I wasn't reading the numbers

You're talking about the ones that stop it being euroiv compliant. Guess the dealer wouldn't be entirely accomodating when it comes to doing that one for you.

As I mentioned on 15th July, mine was replaced under warranty by official Skoda dealer as now recommended ....

Is there a link or does anyone have a copy of official skoda approved fix for stutter problem, as over the water here furby's are pretty rare and mine has the stutter (07) under warranty and dealer not got a clue what I'm talking about,

Thanks.

Fabia-vrs.com - Home Page will have a copy of the relevant service bulletin.

Hi,

I've a 2006 VRS owned from new with the stutter, and got nowhere with the dealers (pretend looks of bewilderment and feeble attempts at saying we've never heard of it).....

I wonder if they stick 9mm gaskets in the demo cars so you don't notice on a test drive!

Anyway, following the excellent info on here, I did the 9mm gasket swap (at Position 11 on the diagram). The difference was unreal - feels like a totally different car, smoother by a mile and hasn't stuttered once.

The only downside (and this may be a coincidence) is that 500 miles after the swap, the orange engine management light came on. Remained on for a few days, went off for a week, then returned again. Just had my 20K service at a local garage - code read was a PO401 EGR fault. Now cleared down.

No running problems, not in limp home mode, no obvious air leaks. Could it just be a coincidence and the EGR unit is faulty/dirty?

Last resort would be to reverse the change and then get a Skoda dealer to look at the EGR valve, but it runs so much better with the 9mm gasket in.

cheers

Others have reported a CEL but as I don't have a car to tinker with myself I can't explore it further.

Have you checked to see which size gasket is at the other end?

Hi,

I haven't checked the one at the other end, but it will be the one it was built with - it's never had the bonnet opened by a Skoda dealer since I drove it away new from the dealers. Which I'd guess will be identical to the one I took off.

cheers

OK, I startd to read this thread and lost the will to live after reading 12 pages of it.

My girlfriend bought a 3 month old VRS SE from Skoda dealership in Liverpool. Didnt notice it on the test drive ( my foot was planted, not feathering the damn thing) so i didnt notice the stutter. GF picked up the car a few days later. I went for a drive in it the next day and noticed it.

The dealership are saying that it is a feature of the model and that theres nothing they can do. My dad was in the car game for 30 years, so i'm not accepting that load of old b*ll*cks.

My GF part-ex'd her old car which has now been sold.

Told the guy in the service department to go back to his manager and tell him I wasnt accepting that and if they cant come up with a better solution than that, they can have their car back and will have our money back for our part ex.

Now waiting for return call.

Sorry if this doesnt make much sense but I am seething, and its difficult to type by punching the keyboard!!!!!!!!!!

I should have said i read the first 12 then the last one.

Yup, i read that article cheers Stu

I dont want to fix it myself as this would negate the warranty on it. also I dont want to throw it back at them cos 1. its a great car (this problem aside) and 2. We will get spanked by getting back what they allowed in part ex. We chipped the start price, they chipped the part ex. fine, apart from to swap back we will loose out.

However, I (speaking on behalf of her in doors :P ) will throw a couple of hundred quid away just to not be played by idiots like these people.

 :(

Was speaking my dad about this earlier, he claims his SE has the stutter also so has phoned up the dealer and they just told him to bring it in when he gets a chance and they will fix it.

Not sure if you got as far as Kerry's legal issues and the outcome, but sadly he lost his case. So I wouldn't bank on throwing your couple of hundred quid at a solicitor and getting a result.

Personally I would do it myself and keep the original gasket.

First off, well done to those who condensed the thread

Couple of questions if anyone knows the answer.

1) Where do skoda dealers fit the 14.5mm gasket? Position 6 or 11? Seem to remember reading that dealer may put it in either, because there is no definitive solution. I see most people use position 11, is this because it's easier to get too?

2) Should the gasket be installed dry? Gasket sealer or a bit of grease / anti-seize?

Thanks

Going to order a 9mm tommorrow when I get the alloy replaced. Sick of the stutter - it really is annoying.

BTW, why has this thread been removed from the Sticky?

True enough I "lost" on the stutter although I did win on the other matter of the seats. The best bit is that the dealer paid

I have had a beer and calmed down a bit now. I will wait and see what they say on monday when they get back to me. It was their statement that it was a feature of the car that got me annoyed. if they had said "we will look into it....."

Its a shame, cos apart from this we have had great service from them.

TBF ... they were right to say that as it is the Skoda party line I'm afraid. They should have no qualms in fitting the 'fix' for you though.
