Those formatting programs date to before exfat and to using disk drives at the time on fat32 devices that only could see Fat32. Use to use disk drives with satellite TV boxes. You could put any disk drive onto your sat box (usb plug) but the inherent nature of fat32 is even if you fiddle with it, no file can be greater than 4gb within a much bigger drive. Hobbyist sat TV boxes.

It still gets Firestick users that put storage on Firesticks since Amazon use Fat32. Upshot is you can't turn a Firestick into a useful media player if your video is greater than 4gb. 4k / HDR films tend to be way above this. Android TV on Nvidia and Chromecast 4k etc on the other hand support newer file formats. I stuff 1tb SSDs onto these in usb3 cases. Cunning of Amazon to limit Firesticks to fat32 although a cack handed way of doing with with ES Explorer is reported. Nvidia is my main home media player. Firestick for holidays and the Chromecast to play with. The development machine in old talk. The second mainframe sitting in the corner... Firesticks don't take useful disk packs. 🤣

Digress.

Fat32 has had its day really for big storage, exFat replaced it. There were those fiddle programs that allowed its design bounds to be broken, but the 4gb individual file limit is still there. Solid state storage is now optimised for exFat over NTFS why it's the standard above NTFS. Why the big SDs and USBs come formatted in exFat. It's then a bit eccentric to format them to NTFS as some do if your hardware is fundamentally designed for exFat.

You'd get away with the extended fat32 fudge programs on Vag mib3 on these drives because the source map fragment files are less than 4gb in size. They don't break the fat32 fundamental limit of how it indexes. The same way as SD TV series can play on the Firestick but no good for 4k where each episode is highly likely to be above 4gb 😉.

The 4gb limit is in here

The achilles heel of Fat32. exFat took over.

  • Update OI_P119_EU_202425_Offline_Update.zip contains data from 23.12 (YY.MM). You can check this for example in the MIB31_EU.ROOT/3D/PRODUCT.NDS file. This is a SQLite database, you can find this

The sat nav upgraded to 24.6. But I think I lost the "countdown" arrow in the dash display that starts to split when you approach a junction. Is this just my impression or can this be reactivated anywhere?

Probably just needs the menu toggling. Rings a bell on a Mib2. Sure it's not ACC covering it up. Whatever ACC covers up on a MIB2 on the display it does the same on Mib3 or just a menu that needs toggling to get it back up.

Which setting would this be?

The ACC display is at the bottom of the dashboard. I have the map in the centre.

I have tryed to update both of my cars, Kodiaq 2020 and Octavia iV 2021 to 2024.48, but didn't make it. I used the same stick. Tryed both NTFS and exFAT. The map version still says 24.10 as before (which is kind of strange since after the june update should have been 24.25. If i recall it correctly, it also happened several updates ago, 3 or 4 when only going to Skoda sorted out. Can someone who made the 2024.48 update tell me what version is now?

That's a good sign since 24.10 is more up-to-date than 24.06 (October v June)🫡. Your over the air beats off air. Only when you come out of contract for online services you do it.

A little bit odd since I always did it offline ever since i have the car :)

@MartiniB after doing the mib3 map update does it delete home and favourites. That was reported on a Seat unit... or does it retain these as mib2 map updates?.

Been trying to update my mib3 for weeks now, my current version is software 0442 Nav Database 24.8, I have the latest version from the Skoda site ECE 2025, Valid since CW 48/2024....... Nothing updates, is that because the two versions are the same, if so, as a non techy how would I know, as the two versions don't seem to have any logical link......

The most recent offline is 24.6 which @MartiniB has posted at the top. Online services once you come off them there will be a delay of 6-12 months before you can do better with offline that is this thread, catching up process.

I had asked where in these files was the release code, on this thread and a kind sole told me:

This is really useful for us people that look across releases to study what each of the three main brands are offering, the files are interchangeable but not all are recent, for example Seat lags significantly in their offline free posted offer.

(You do need a bit of SQL database knowledge to poke about in the files... isn't something you need to do yourself if you take what's posted up as is... as said more for us to audit what is going on. Under no circumstances attempt to save these files after poking about since that wont work and they are encryption signature protected. Look but dont change, same with mib2 high... thats answers your question on how do you know.)

So MartiniB now takes a look using this method (I believe) hence he denotes the current one (which will change) as 24.6 tallies with the contents. Basically you have a freeze date, a preparation date, release date. The yy.mm tallies with what is on the screen in Mib3. The ECE information tallies with the previous mib2 high method of denoting the releases. The production cycle of map changes generally means it takes about a year before new items in Here Map files get released. Online has an edge of 6-12 months, you pay for that in the online subscription and convenience.

Thus the short answer if you are at 24.8 you can't out do that by 24.6. June 2025 you will.

You mean you have never saved home or a favourite. I've seen fantasy digitisation on Waze which got through their QA, the estate wasn't even built so you wouldn't have much chance of finding the roads. Crowd sourcing issues and lack of QA. School kids.

Just tried to download latest map updates from Skoda portal (https://updateportal.skoda-auto.com/en-GB) and entered my VIN.  It shows me a download link for a new map database zip file, but when I click on the download I get some strange 'Page not found' message.  If I click the "contact support" (thinking I could report the error to Skoda) it takes me so some Azure webpage.  Has Skoda deleted the map update file?

I also get an error message when I put my VIN in and hit download. (this is a Wi11 PC on 23H2, not the latest 24H2 update which is known to cause problems)

However, I downloaded a copy of OI_P129_EU_202448_Offline_Update.zip   on the 12th December 24 using a link from somewhere on this forum.  So it does look like it might be a problem at Škoda’s system.

I have the same problem, the download site not function. Any solution?

Maybe this site could host a copy.

Though maybe only open to paying members? That would cover the costs.

I can as well now but not 10 minutes ago not.

It's MartiniB's first post on this thread.

# ECE 2024.06    28 Gb

        version:{"major":1167777,"minor":24032,"build":0}
Škoda portal:   https://infotainment-cdn.skoda-auto.com/base/maps/OI_P129_EU_202448_Offline_Update.zip

Files inside:    2024.05.24
Downloadable:    2024.11.18
Published:    2024.11.2?

Basically, their file servers must have been down. MartiniB publishes the direct link rather than wrapped in a webpage.

The download link now functioned. The problem is solved. Thank of all

Yes just down time.

sorry to bother you again, this is the first time I try to update the maps, I downloaded the file, decompressed it and copied everything to a 128gb USB stick formatted in exFat. I inserted the pen drive into the car but nothing happens, according to the skoda instructions I should leave it inserted and it updates itself. but shouldn't I do it manually like the mib3 software update by holding down the menu button? can anyone explain to me how to update the maps? I have a skoda octavia IV 2020 DSG 150cv. Thanks

I was going to give you the VW link

https://navigation-maps.volkswagen.com/vw-maps/EUR_12PR119_FCT3WS-23131_Offline_Update.tar

Using the @c34 method... I need a youngsters again🤣, I can't find that bit in the file to read YY.MM. That would be the cross check of the VW file verses the Skoda

Still we got the Skoda one working now but a worked example to where that is in the VW file would be useful.

OK sorted that VW link which VW people are getting pointed to is older than the Skoda files:

image.thumb.png.ac6a36d1b0c3eb35563627f4f5c8afca.png

The all important file was missing when I used 7zip to unzip the TAR files. The built in explorer gave us

\MIB31_EU.ROOT\3D

So we could use the @c34 magic on it... take away use the built in Windows Exporer but I reckon only @MartiniB and a few will be doing this checking.
