Front Lower Suspension arm pin or bush skoda fabia

Featured Replies

The Front Lower Suspension arm pin or bush on my daighter's Fabia II were mentioned in an advisory as worn but not causing excessive movement.

It seems to be only the rear bush on the right so far.

How much of a pain are they to change?

Using the briskoda search did not come up with many results.

I would change both sides, as the other might soon go also.

It might be better to replace the lower steel wishbones as well, as these can rust through from the inside. This also means that the front and rear bushes are already fitted into the wishbone.

You can see in the chart below that item number 2 varies depending whether the Fabia MK2 has build code G01/G07 or not. It probably doesn't as the other build codes are far more numerous, ie. build codes G02/G03/G04/G38/G39/G40/G41.

If you change this bush please don't use the Shkoda bush they are rubbish you will be replacing them again witin 2 years use the same bush that's solid from a SEAT CUPRA much stronger better handanling etc but you will need to change both sides , puller kit is around £90 bushes run around £60 a pair  Skoda bushes are around £30 but t hey want £250 per side to replace them had minr done both sides in an independant garage for £80 both sides with me suppling the bushes

@Murdockman you seem to be talking about the mk1 Fabia console bushes, which @26DIPP might be needing but only if his daughter's mk2 is a very early one, they changed to the style Carlston showed very early in the mk2 history. Chassis numbers either side of the change are shown in the titles of the first two diagrams here front axle, steering Fabia (FAB) [EUROPA 2007 year] (7zap.com)

This is a quick and easy job for a shop to fix, its also a quick and easy job for you to do in your driveway if you have proper tools. Order a control arm with the bushings already in it like Carlston mentions, get the car lifted on both sides and supported on jacks, spray penetrant on the bolts and nuts and wait an hour. If the bolts are really stuck then use a impact to get them loose.

Do not try to lift only one side at the time unless you want to risk loosening the rods for the anti roll bar at the same time. They will push the strut and make it cumbersome to work with.

Does the car have to have the tracking done afterwards?

I wouldn't. Just keep an eye on the front tyres to make sure they are wearing evenly, and make sure the steering feels ok...like you would anyway.
