Superb 272 bhp 2018 - which DSG does it use?

Featured Replies

Hi guys! Sorry, it is a lame question, bit here goes the story. I went on a test drive of a used Superb today. The car is from October 2018, it is L&K model, petrol, 2.0TSI.

The owner did not let me drive the car, he was too scared I guess... Anyway I was just a passenger and I forgot to watch at the digital cockpit whether or not the car has 7 gears...

In the advert it says 7 speed DSG, but... Is it true? Is there a chance for it to be 6 speed?

In a couple of days me and the owner will go to a SKODA Dealer to check some things, but until then... Could you let me know what you guys think? If  I get the VIN number can  I check this info somewhere online or...?

Thanks in advance!

In the UK the  272 came with the newer 7 speed DSG.  The change to the engine from 280 and gearbox were both to meet the newer emissions/ fuel consumption tests.  Some other markets Oz? Middle East have different engine / gearbox combinations.

Thanks for the info! I forgot to clarify that I am not located in UK and that the car is left-hand drive...

If u have the VIN number, then u can jump on Erwin (Skoda) online to see ur car's build details, including exactly wat DSG box u have.

Thanks @JR RS! I will check it this week. In the meantime is there any other way, perhaps a code/number written anywhere on the engine bay? Or something similar?

Erwin as JR said will give you the build sheet. It's about 10 dollars for an hour. Jump on put your vin in and identify your vehicle then download the build sheet. It should list any options installed. Then hop over and down load some manuals if you want.

If the owner said it was a 7 speed its probably a 7 speed. You could ring him if your worried.

@mutha88Welcome.

What country are you buying the car in?

It certainly should be a 7 speed DSG.

Even if it shows as Full Main Dealer Servicing you want to know what that is over and above Fixed or Variable Oil & Filter Services and look see's and reports.

You want to see the invoice / receipt for the actual work done.

So if the car has done 40,000 miles or over the DSG should have had an oil change.

@ 3 years / 30,000 miles the Haldex should have had an oil change and cleaning of the filter / pump.

Also the brake fluid changed @ 3 years or now at 4 years or at least the brake fluid checked for H20 content.

The Spark Plugs might be due replacing if it is at 40,000 miles.

EDIT,

PS.  Just noticed a left hand drive

,  So if it is in km and not miles just do the conversion but for the Haldex the 3 miles / 48,000 km is Important that it was done,

as is the 64,000 km for the DSG having been serviced.

The sticker in the boot will have a gearbox code so that’s a good start. If you can get a photo of that we can work with it.

but as someone else suggested Erwin and a print out is 100% your best bet

Did both the 220 and 272 have 7 speed DSG?

The 220 only came with the DSG-6 (DQ250), with the pre-facelift at least.

The 272 comes with DSG-7 (DQ381).

I'm not sure if the facelift version now comes with the DSG-7 (DQ380) for FWD models.

I have a question on the DQ250. I have the superb sportline 280 and sometimes when manually (paddles) changing down from 2nd to 1st I get a clunk/crunching sound. Almost like you’ve let the clutch out too early before being in gear in a manual. Does anyone else also get this?

I've got the same DQ250 gearbox in my 220 - no clunking when going down to 1st, when in Manual mode.

mines a 2018 280 and 6 spd

if defo a 272 then should be 7 speed

@Donweather If it drops from 2nd to 1st OK when in D then maybe best not manually drop to 1st using the paddles.

?

How many miles on the car?

25000km

It doesn’t do it all the time. Maybe no more than 5% of the time.

It was at this point that you should have walked away.
