280 Tsi long term ...

Featured Replies

Car will be 7 years old ( 38k )  in October and glad to report that it's wearing pretty well. All leather is still in great condition with no real wear noticeable on any of the interior even the glossy piano is in pretty decent condition with 1 small scratch thanks to the dealer for that one.

Exterior the paint although could do with a machine polish is very good with the odd stone chip but nothing excessive. The silver trim has that cloudy appearance that seemed to appear very early in ownership and nothing seems to remove. The black shiny trim has a lot of small  scratches but can only be seen up close.

Few problems with creaky suspension that seems to be cured now its not happened for a couple of years. Tailgate struts failed. DSG Lever park problem all repaired under warranty.

Last couple of years i've been offered the full warranty for around £360 if I have that offer again I will be taking it up.

I have zero interest in changing and cant think what I would replace it with if I did.

I assumed 38K is the total mileage over 7 years. Your car should be immaculate and running like a dream 😀

It is

Why change?

Stick with what you know and replace with electric when it's worn out in 5-10 years time. Bought mine (late 2016 280 L&K) at 40,000 miles, now over 50,000 miles and no concerns.

If you want to save money find a good independent garage to service the car every year

Our 280 is 6 1/4 years old with 34k and still on the original P7’s! The only failures have been the right steering wheel controls, replaced under warranty and a rear wheel speed sensor, which made the entire system go nuts as we disembarked the Cairnryan to Belfast ferry and then every few miles for the next three weeks and Ireland and all the way back. Sorted very inexpensively and expertly by Wheelbase in Hersham.
It’s the best car I’ve had, including Sierra Cosworth, Mondeo ST200, Fiat Coupe Turbo, Nissan SX200, Lexus blah, blah… and certainly owned. Will be keeping this one for good.

to the same just new!
because all following will lose several obvious things:
1. DSG gear stick. Current gives fast access to 'D'<>'S' and 'D'<>'N'.
2. Physical Start-Stop and other buttons.
3. Location of display.
4. ?? Cooling box under armrest.

? ? ?

? ?

I think he meant that he would upgrade to a newer Superb due to the failures he's listed.

I have a 2016 280tsi currently at 26.7k miles.

Does everything I need perfectly, I own it outright, so will just hang on to it until I cant buy petrol easily or affordably I guess.

Mine is 6 years old and 80k miles. Engine and gearbox still perfect (touch wood), and all the gadgets still working as new. Only thing is a bit of superficial rust on the sills below the doors. I think it might stem from when I did battle with a snowdrift. Also a bit of rust under a rear wheel arch but that was my fault for running over a bit of metal on the airfield grass in the dark - it decided to explore its way around the wheel/arch😢

I have no desire to replace it with anything else - well maybe a 7 speeder in a few years…

Ahh.. confused if that’s the case.

1. DSG gear stick. Current gives fast access to 'D'<>'S' and 'D'<>'N'. Yeah, our 2016 model does that; pull it back from D for S and push it up from D for N
2. Physical Start-Stop and other buttons. Yep, AFAIK they’re in the same place.
3. Location of display. It’s in front of me. Virtual Display might be nice I suppose.
4. Cooling box under armrestYes, it’s a cooled box under the armrest.

i'm talking about this is the last minute, keep in mind one year waiting time,

to order car with that all obvious options, before Superb Mk4 will come in place,

because all new VAGs are going to lose that options.

1. instead DSG gearbox stick will be installed small parody.

2. Start-Stop will be able deactivated only trough head unit sub menus,

with lost physical button where then connect S-S Memory Module?

-> https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/485940-memory-module-for-start-stop-button/

4. i have tested several cars, BMW5, V90 CC, Tarraco, A6, Kodiaq, Enyaq, and none of them had this simple thing.

this is must have option in longer trips.

next 2023 Superb 280ps AWD L&K has been ordered

to replace 2016 Superb 220ps FWD Style

Ahhhh, got you now MB…👍🏻
