Android Auto/Amundsen/Phone model Which phone do you have?

Featured Replies

I have a Samsung A52s and it disconnects randomly from Android Auto then reconnects. The car is going in for another matter and I have asked the garage to have a look at this problem too, but I don't have much confidence that they can help. I wonder if the phone make/model makes a difference to how solid the connection is, hence this new topic. Google Pixel phones seem to be recommended but being a touch cynical, that could be manipulation by Google to sell more phones.

I've been using a Samsung A52s to connect wireless Andoid Auto in my Skoda Karoq for the last six months without any issues.

I usually use it for Waze SatNav.

I have a TCL 20 5G running Android 11, and I also have this happen to me occasionally.  I have no idea what causes it, so I would be interested to hear what the garage tells you.  I use it for Google Maps, BBC Sounds, Spotify, Audible and Podcast Addict mainly.

My car is a Skoda Superb iV SE Technology.

I have the same problem with my IPhone 7S which happens a lot and has happened a lot in this country over the last two years of my ownership of what is otherwise a superb vehicle. Strangely has never occurred in the three months I was in France last year and this was out in the boonies in the Pyrenees as well so I do not believe it is anything to do with signal hook up. I have reasoned this through already with the local dealership and they cannot replicate or identify any fault. Regardless the Kamiq is going in next week for more investigation. I suspect it is the handshake between the MIB system and the CarPlay software in the phone so I don’t think it matters if it’s Android or IOS…I’ll let you know if I can pin it down more…

The Amundsen software was updated at the dealer's which they said would solve the issue. I'll report in a few weeks when I have tried it out over various distances. My Samsung A52S is running Android 12 and I used TomTom which I think is the best around in that you can select an exact route, save it to your account then access saved routes to use in the car by first getting the route running on your mobile then open the app on Android Auto. You get speed camera alerts and traffic info too.

The issue the car went in for was an annoying rattle on start up and when driving over 50mph. It was a part underneath that wasn't secured properly when I had a tow bar fitted. I was informed that 'rattles' are only covered by the warranty for the first six months but they gave me 1 hour work f.o.c. It was an easy fix apparently so no charge.

I have a Galaxy S10 with the latest firmware and AA wireless occasionally drops the connection then sometimes reconnects right away or sometimes I need to restart the Infotainment system

There is no indication on the thread whether the issue is via usb cable or wireless. If by USB cable, you are probably already aware that this issue may be attributable to the quality of the cable. I had this problem with a nonSkoda car, and it was a cheap cable issue, now using higher quality cables and no issue.

Wireless. Android 12 on a Samsung A52S 5g

The issue happens with either cable or on wireless.

I use AA wirlessly with my Galaxy S10 and it occasionally disconnects.  Sometimes it then reconnects straight away other times it needs the system rebooted then reconnects

I just use my phone and Waze, AA seems to connect fine.

Following the updated software, there is no change. AA still disconnects and reconnects at random. I am going to start using a cable to see if that's any better. Any opinions on Apple Car Play?

I dropped someone off at the GP surgery this morning and android auto dropped out.

Before driving away I reconnected the phone to Android with no problem, connection Bluetooth.

What make/model phone do you use?

Its a Google pixel 3A (they are up to the 6's now I think) I bought a cable but it cozied up to AA straight away

and no disconnects until the one I mentioned, which may have been all the radio traffic around the surgery.

I had Bluetooth issues with an earlier phone (One plus 3)  disconnecting occasionally and I tried all sorts of thing to fix with no luck until the phone bricked on me and I ended up doing a factory reset and restoring a backup - Bluetooth was perfect thereafter. This wasn't AA of course but something was interrupting phone basic functions - hopefully nothing nasty!  Could it be worth factory resetting the A52?

Update to this topic; I have started putting my mobile in the tray in front of the gear selector and right under the heater/aircon controls. During the last few journeys in the car, Android Auto has been solid with no disconnections at all. I used to just leave my phone in my pocket and didin't think that would be an issue as the distance from my pocket to the Amundsden unit when I am driving is not exactly huge but apparently it seems to have made a huge difference to connectivity. Hopefully this will be permanent.
