Vrs Drivers seat foam advice

Featured Replies

Hi Folks. My Drivers side seat base foam has become a little soggy on the outer bolster. The cover is still okay but due to the soggy foam bolster I fear it will not be long before the cover is damaged.

Are these foams still available and if so where can I buy one? What sort of job are they to replace? Many thanks.

Sadly unavailable. @Lofty spoke about this on his project thread some time ago.

They're not terrible to replace, just takes a bit of patience and strong fingers. I replaced mine with one out of the passenger side of an ibiza.

Oh that's, a shame the part is not available.

If I managed to find a decent passenger seat foam from a Vrs would this fit the drivers side? Thanks.

Part numbers only difference is between the normal seat/VRs & leather not handed so a passenger side will fit the drivers side

I swapped the seat bases on my mk1 sport seats, as above its the same part.

Little bit finicky but very doable.

Could always have an upholsterer take a look at it and see if they can make new foam to build up the soggy side

Thanks Guys, I will look at out for a decent passenger seat base foam but meanwhile an upholsterer might be able to do something for me, I'll look into this. Appreciate your advice.

Sorry to pick up on this thread again. DieselMonte... Did you just remove both seat foams/covers and swop drivers to passengers complete?

If so, how hard/easy is this to do? Thanks.

Basically yeah, seat bottoms come off from the frames fairly easily but you need to split the seats and iirc you need a triple square socket to do that with.

Remove foam with cover attached and swap them around. They fit in fine on the other side.

Thank you. I'll do that as the passenger side is perfect.

When you say 'split the seat' and 'triple square socket' what do you mean by this please?

Triple square socket is a special socket VW use for things like the seats and other things like seat belts (safety stuff that you wouldn't want someone with a set of spanners messing with)

Easy got though, they're basically a Hex bit but with 12 points on it instead of six

Splitting the seat, I mean remove the back of the seat from the seat base. You need to remove the plastic trims on the seat and you'll see some 12 point bolts, 2 each side iirc.

Remove them and the back of the seat separates from the seat base. Then the seat base more or less unclips from the seat base frame

It's a lot easier than it sounds, just not terribly easy to explain.

I got my set in my nearest motorfactors. They've served me well for how long I've had em.

Brilliant, thanks DieselMonte that's great. Sounds to be well within my skills to do this and will hopefully preserve the existing drivers seat cover.

Appreciate your advice.

Thanks Nige8021 for the socket link.
