Skoda Fabia MK2 5J 2011 Facelift 1.2 60HP Day time running lights

Featured Replies

Hi,

I seem to not have a way of turning off the daytime running lights its a manual with no stop-start either everyone seems to say there is a switch but my car just has a hole where the switch would be and im not able to find any signs of a connecter nearby either any ideas or is this a dealership option that needs to be turned off my the main dealer machine? :)

Or am i missing something even in the user manual it seems to say im able to turn it off but im not able to and i seem to not have a fuse for Day time running lights either so im even more confused as the rear lights come on and number plate lights as well from my understanding daytime running lights normally are only the front lights or is this normal for the fabias also had the reverse light fuse pop on me 2 times till i took out the bulb on the drivers side which looked fine and then put a new fuse in and started to work again but i did not even get a light bulb needs changing light on the dash when the reverse light fuse popped.

Does your car even come with & have 'Day Time / Day Light Running lights', is it not just that your Side Light / Position lights & Registration plate lights come on all the time?

Maybe somebody changed them to work that way.

hi,

I know what you mean no i dont have these lights on my car its the side lights that are always on and where the center console is the lights stopped lighting up yesterday afternoon,

Its a very weird one i cant find any fuse that relates to why these lights are on all of the time.

Are they brighter than just Sidelights are, so actually DRL's.

If you turn off the car and put the indicator stalk to the right or to the left (down or up)

do you then get the 'Parking Lights' on,  One front and one rear sidelight on?

A grown up that under stands electricery will be along.

@Pete_Ex-Wino or @UrbanPanzer maybe.

hi,

There the same all of the back of the car is lit as well both side lights on the rear as there is two bulbs in eatch rear light on my car un sure why but there always on with the number plate ones as well.

This is while the light switch is off ofc lol.

Right yes the right turns the right side light

  • Author

Yeah the parking lights work as intended it only when the keys are in the on position this is when these lights turn on

So that is not right.

Parking lights should be on when the car is parked, keys out of ignition and car locked.  Parked where there are no Street Lights.

  • Author

Yeah I meant to mean when there is no keys in the ignition the the parking lights work as in tended and then when I turn them off and then turn on the ignition all of the side lights turn on

Sorry I did not explain that well

I'm a bit lost as to what you have and mean but this from 2011/11 Owner's Manual. - https://manual.skoda-auto.com/004/en-com/Models

Please see video I have just made quick

I personally think it might be a control module fault but I might be wrong and I don’t wanna go digging into the dash to find it really 😞

" . . . somebody had wired it wrong . . ."

I think that might be a clue, or the switch is broken/faulty, (ETA: or bypassed?) - have a look at the wiring behind the light switch.

A great idea to do a video, if you also hold the phone to landscape, instead of portrait, you will get more into the frame which can sometimes be very helpful too.

ETA:

so have you tried the second paragraph posted above ?

I would suggest the lock issue is a seperate one, the lights seem to be behaving as per the manual section posted.

  • Author

Yeah I tried it and nothing it does not have start stop no audio cue happens after I do it I tried this 8 times this week alone lol been there tried it

in this part of the video, the illumination on the stereo "seems" to be on "before" you press the unlock dash switch.......

What happens regarding interior illumination when you unlock the car...DO NOT put key in, just flick lights to position 1 ?

next thing to try.........

In the interior fusebox (one by knees)  REMOVE fuse 35.

  • Author

Fuse power ignition 35 is blown I had the reverse light fuse blow yesterday as well,

  • Author

So what does this mean for me then as I don’t have a spare on hand,

it says it’s a “Power supply of ignition lock” this fuse must of only blown yesterday when I changed the reverse light fuse witch is fuse 6

Well, it is not uncommon for VAG cars to say one thing on a fuse and it do something entirely different......however, that fuse for what ever reason should not be blown, so it needs replacing first to carry on the diagnosis.

According to another edition of the owners manual, fitting / removing that fuse disables the daytime running lights, so the fact its blown anyway says it might not be the case.

Get some fuses from halfords, or petrol station, fit the correct size / rating (by colour) and go from there, "if" it blows as soon as you fit one, then there is a fault / direct short to ground and further investigation required.

Okay not a problem I will give it a try

that’s the weird dash light issue btw

I would add that if you may be following someone who has wired stuff wrong you may not be able to follow the book (even if they are badly written and contain errors and unstated variances).  You must also hope they've not been playing with any computer settings too, doubtful if they can't follow the wiring properly but you never know.

The central locking not operating after numerous repeated pushes might just be the computer program being outwitted (or who knows, even design) I'd not tempt fate by annoying any of the computer programs.

Would the central locking work with a door open anyway (I don't know the answer on this model).

Good camera angle on video. 👍

When looking for any electrical and/or starting issues it's always best to have the car battery in a good condition and state of charge (and the connections and earths) otherwise progress and diagnostics could be hindered particularly if the process drags on a long while and other issues could be introduced.

When fuses blow you're best to find out why before replacing them - but sometimes you have to replace them to progress - however you found the previous wiring was wrong and corrected it would probably be the way to precede now.  Two fuses blowing seems more than a coincidence.

Do you have access to a scan tool to check the readings.

Good luck, others will probably be back and along later that can help you.
