Keyless entry

Featured Replies

Hi folks, this is the first time I’ve had a keyless entry system and I’ve been reading scary things that thieves can stand outside your house and ‘read’ your key fob to gain entry to your car in order to steal it or contents ! The solution suggested is to keep your key fobs in a Farraday cage bag, has anyone got suggestions if this is necessary or practical ? 🤔😕

As I understand it, when the key has been motionless for 15 minutes, it ceases transmitting.  I tested this on my previous 2019 Karoq, and found that to be the case.

Your keys have motion sensors which disable the key if its not moved for a while. So when the key is stationery in your house the method of 'reading' your key and relaying to the car won't work.

It’s only the very early cars that had that security issue, changed as stated above in 2019?

Never the less I always disable the system before leaving the car by locking with the button and touching the dimple to disable this feature. The car does not lock immediately as you walk away and could be unlocked if you stay nearby allowing entry for theft when not looking? Not sure how quickly it locks and how far you have to move away before it locks?

There is no automatic locking at all on VAG cars.

Oh, I didn’t realise I had to do that, I’m obviously not understanding the issue, if I disable kessy how do I get back in the car ?

By unlocking it with the remote button, which also re-enables KESSY (so you can start the engine e.g.).

It's all in the owner's manual, if you can find it!

Yes thanks, I always thought it automatically locked if you walk away but you are correct.

Fortunately never done this personally as always lock with keyfob and then disable the Kessy.

However if you don’t disable it, it will unlock when you are near it and is then accessible to others for a period until it re locks, if you don’t open a door. So definitely better to disable. TBH I can’t see the point of Kessy apart from not having to use a key in ignition. My sons Ford has a keyless ignition, but no automatic door unlocking, seems better to me.

I've attached a screenshot of the page from the Superb manual regarding the correct way to use KessyScreenshot_20220611-162806.thumb.png.2d6672c8cb710e91af05717fb00dab01.png

I think you miss understand how KESSY works. It does not unlock when you are near the car, you have to grab the door handle with the key on your person same as you have to touch the indent on the door handle to lock, it doesn’t automatically lock if you walk away.

Correct method on using KESSY in previous post.

Don’t forget that you can disable the car from receiving a signal by locking from the fob and then touching the dimple on the door handle within a short time afterwards. 🔑

Thank you for this John it’s a great tip, my dealer salesman didn’t know this 👍
