Dented Wing

Featured Replies

Managed to drop something on my Fab and now have a 4 inch dent in the top of the wing above the wheel arch, wonder if anyone knows that if I take the wheel arch liner out will I be able to knock the dent out from the underside?

I'm wondering if the wing is double skinned so will need to be pulled out?

Cheers Guys

I'd say pull it from the outside. Or use one of the HatBoyHarvey videos online to get behind the wing and then batter it out from the inside. Worst case scenario, grab another wing from a breaker or something.

Not double skinned, you will have access with the wheel & arch protector removed, whether you can knock the dent out depends on your competence and the extent of the damage.

What I can say is that it will be far easier if you remove the wing and work on a bench protected by a cushion of blankets, the wings are usually very easy to remove but I dont have experience of your model.

Wings easy to remove just be aware of the bead of silicon where the wing meets the door.

Not a chance of getting rid of a dent that size unless you're a trained panel beater with access to the necessary tools, even then the wing will need repainting.

I can't believe anyone would think otherwise, incredible!

Cheers in-mates, dent is actually 2 inches long and a crease which is very shallow so im hoping it will pop out if some pressure is applied. I have some panel beater dyes so will give it a go , cheers

Best bet would be to pay a PDR guy to do it, they can get some pretty magnificent dents out but often have years of experience to do so. Depends how you value your time etc.

The dent was actually caused by something heavy slowly pressing down on the wing until a split second later realized what had happened take a look and took the weight off the wing. The paint is hardly scratched so will take a look one day, cheers for the advice.

The word crease makes it sound a challenge but in general these vehicles now have very thin steel and very thick paint, if the dent has not stretched or creased the metal and the paint is intact then if there is access it can be removed completely without paint damage by an experienced person.

And there is only one way to get the experience!

Once you start using panelbeating hammers and dollies paintwork damage is very likely.

I have scores of PDR repairs to do, I have tackled the worst/easiest and in most cases reduced them significantly but they are still visible but that was just with selected hand tools, wooden & rubber blocks & wedges etc, I keep meaning to buy a PDR set, I borrowed a basic one once from a renter, it had some good bridge tools but none of the cranked ball end levers whatever they are called.

With that I could bring a dent out close to flush but needed to manipulate and stretch it from the rear to bring it flush and make it stay there.

if we could see a picture of the dent we could comment better I got a pretty big dent out of my rear quarter panel when i first had the car using a heat gun and dent puller sucker and some gentle persuasion with the wheel arch liner removed and a long reach metal rod. I would try the old boiling hot water on it first with a mini plunger ive seen this method successfully remove many a small dent.
