Amundsen can be bought WITH or WITHOUT bluetooth, you simply have to check the radio label to see the MAC address, if its ALL 0's there is no bluetooth, if its populated, then bluetooth is built in.

so..........Ignore Amundsen , Amundsen + (some have no writing like mine), even the factory part number, you NEED to see the label as in the attached picture showing the MAC address is populated (bluetooth built in) if its 00:000:000 (no bluetooth)

Additonally, your car is very early, not sure regarding the CAN side of things and how this unit will communicate with the car.

not sure if are you asking is there issues or telling us there is  ? If the radio never switches off (as this is controlled by the CAN) then you will have a flat battery a lot.

This will be one of the issues with fitting a CAN unit into a non-CAN car, well atleast in the radio side of things. I think some re-wiring or using an adpater /emulaotr is potentially whats needed.

Some one else may post in if they have done this retro fit to an early vehicle.

This I think is what you "may" need..........

Just swap the switched live and the permanent live round or you'll flatten the battery.

I did mention this would be most likely a problem....

Swapping wires ......................it won't have those wires, thats the way we used to do it with aftermartket DIN headunits, with these CAN units theres no option for this.

You "could" replace the CAN gateway (if its a seperate module)......need to check this if thats possible, or maybe new BCM then you would also need VCDS or similar to code a used / new module to your vehicle.

not sure why you think that, it certainly is nothing to do with the speedo head.

If you have a Greenline with stop start, you CAN gateway is a seperate module (for some reason)................otherwise you would have to update the vehicle voltage control unit (BCM) as its part of that module.

The canbus is built into the speedo head on these fabias

I'm going on past experience with my last fabia when I took the speedo out and turned the key 🔑  that bricked my car .

The vw specialist said the speedo head is the brains to the full electrical system

Then I would use the term "specialist" loosley.

Your car was bricked probably as the immobiliser / odometer is stored in the body module and speedo head and they have to match,  when they don't "match" the car won't initialize.

The "brain" of the car is in 1, or several control units depending on age of vehicle...........as an example, on my 2013 vehicle, the CAN gateway, central convenience and voltage control all come in 1 control unit the BCM, thats the daddy of the electrical system.

All this back and forth does not fix the issue, to get that RNS315 to work correctly, it has to talk via the CAN to the car............simple, no other way around it. So you have to update that part of your vehicle, as explained earlier depending on the spec depends on what you need to change.

It's a fabia 2 basic model 2009 09 plate so no idea then , couldn't I just plug in a canbus box to convert it somehow.

Would it need a different can controller to get it to 2.0 or is it a case of changing it in vagcom

CAN gateway will be a sub-module of the vehicle voltage control unit above accelerator pedal on that age of Fabia, I think, same as on mk1.

I don't think it is Pete, only on a Greenline with start stop tech, all the others it's part of the the vehicle voltage unit.

my bad,  :)  your terminology of "sub module" is you meaning "part off".........

I for one would like to know the "fix" for this..........looking at workshop manual, when a 2009 cars details are entered, the navigation system seems to be pinned the same as the base radios, so unsure where the diffrence actually is.

no, from what I can read there is an update via TPi for vw cars, but not relevant to SKoda so people are being told..... (which we know they are the same)...

So you WILL need to buy either a replacement CAN gateway (seperate module) OR as I strongly suspect a replacement BCM with a later revision.

Some reading...........This is for the RNS510, but the same applies for RNS 315
