Spare wheel and accessories

Featured Replies

Hello, i like to add the spare wheel and all accessories in my Octavia, someone got this option as factory ? can you take me a picture of what it look like ? there is specific dampening material under the wheel to avoid noise ?

thank !

There are only a few small patches of a thin dampening material under the tire. I would suggest putting there a aftermarket sound dampening material which is thicker and it takes away a lot more sound and vibration.

I'd like to get a spare wheel kit for my SEL First Edition Estate - to include all the tools (jack, spanner, etc) and any foam fittings to replace the current inflation kit etc. Any suggestions on the best place to buy one in UK (other than a main dealer)?

Thanks

The foam kit including jack and everything except the spare wheel itself might cost about £50 from a Skoda dealer. From ebay it might cost about £100. On ebay, the parts might not have the correct OEM part numbers and might not be correct for the car.

5E3012115A is the OEM part number for just the foam for the full size spare wheel. The similar 5E3012115 (without the A at the end) is just the foam for the skinny space saver wheel. However, check with the dealer to make sure that he supplies the correct parts for your car.

Don't purchase this one in the photo below, as it's only for a skinny space saver wheel (unless that's what you want)

5E3012115A is the foam for a full size spare wheel shown in the photo below (perhaps just 205/60R16 or 205/55R17, maybe not 225/45R18 if the tyre is inflated but maybe 225/45R18 if the tyre is deflated). The 5E3012115A part number might be for just the foam without the jack/tools, etc.

@Carlston that's really useful to know. I now need to source the spare wheel & tyre - but don't like the idea of the €220 that @zorglub mentions. Maybe I'll look for an off-brand steel rim and a budget tyre; then consider the spare for minimal use until I can get the 'proper' one fixed. Guess there are a few pitfalls in that approach though - so have to be careful to get the right rim.

mytyres are listing an Alcar 6667. The Alcar 6667 is an exact copy of the 16" steel rim from the Skoda Octavia MK4. Alcar are made in Switzerland so as you can imagine, are OE quality. Alcar are one of the most popular aftermarket steel rim manufacturers, hence why mytyres sell them.

The 205/60R16 tyre size is correct for this rim on the Octavia MK4. However, you might want to try one of your current full size wheels first to get an idea if a 205/60R16 tyre would fit in the spare wheel well with the carpet flush, etc.

The 6.5Jx17 ET38 5/112 57.1 steel rim fromt the Kodiaq is similar to the Octavia MK4 6.5Jx17 ET46 5/112 57.1 rim size except for the offset being ET38 instead of ET46. This would move the centre of the tyre 8mm further out in the wheel arch compared to the standard 17" Octavia MK4 rim.

If there's room for an inflated 225 wide tyre (which I doubt), then consider an Alcar 9373 7.5Jx18 ET50 5/112 57.1 steel rim from the VW iD.3 electric car. The offset of this rim is only 2mm different from the 18" Octavia MK4 rim, so would be a good fit on the car with a 225/45R18 tyre. However, on mytyres it's currently over twice the price of the 16" steel rim. The standard 18" tyre and rim size on the Octavia MK4 is 225/45R18 fitted to a 7.5Jx18 ET48 5/112 57.1 rim.

On the topic of spare wheels, I've ordered a 1.5 SE L mild hybrid with the option of a space saver spare. Does anyone know if the  under-boot area would accommodate a full size spare please bearing in mind they have to find room for a battery?

I have a full size spare wheel in my 1.5 hatch SEL but not sure with yours being a hybrid if a full wheel would go

Has anyone found where to get the space saver, foam and the rest of the kit at a decent price for the mk 4 estate.

From my searching early last year the main dealer had as good, or better, price than anywhere else - much to my surprise.

Who was the main dealer

The foam and jack kit for the Octavia MK4 has OEM part number 5E3093860B. By quoting this number, you can order from any VAG parts department. This includes everything except for the actual spare wheel, which can be obtained cheaply (from about £40) on ebay. The specification of the spare wheel is 125/70R18 3.5Jx18 ET25.5 5/112 57.1 which is the most popular size space saver spare wheel as they are fitted to a large number of VAG cars such as Golf MK5/MK6/MK7/MK8, and the various clones including the Octavia MK2/MK3/MK4. Even the Karoq and Superb MK3 uses this specification of space saver spare wheel.

It was Meadens in Brockenhurst, Hampshire. They have a branch in Christchurch too.

I bought the space saver spare and the jack and tool kit from the local main dealer.  Whilst the kit is good, the space saver spare supplied is a completely unknown Chinese make with only the bare minimum of tread to make it legal, and is smaller in overall diameter than the car's road wheels. My other car is a Jaguar XK which uses a very similar space saver tyre made by Pirelli, with acceptable tread depth and overall diameter closer to normal wheel diameter. I would advise buying only the jack and tool kit, which includes a plastic part to support the boot floor and sourcing a spare wheel with a better tyre from one of the specialist suppliers.

I tried to edit my post but cannot do so.  The Tyre make is "LingLong", which I have never seen before. Tread depth is about 1mm above the wear bars and not much more below them. I would not feel very safe with that tyre on, particularly in the wet.

Hardly an unknown brand.   It is a. Emergency spare to get you to a place if safety, at no more than 50 mph, and not for running many miles.  Best change then for a matching wheel and tyre to the others if you want to continue at normal speeds.

I am quite OK with a space saver. All of them are only intended to be used for less than 500 miles and at no more than 50mph. I have had and used them before, but I have never before seen one with so little tread depth. LingLong may be a known brand, but that does not make it a good one.

No it does not make it a good brand. Global though.  Plenty sell them, globally.

Just to make sure, is this the correct spare wheel even when the normal tyre dimensions are 205/55R17? (I am aware that some Octo IVs have R16, some R17, so want to be clear whether the R18 spare fits both.)

The 18" spare wheel replacement kit with OEM part number 5E3093860B can't be used with the Octavia MK4 hybrid as shown in the link below.

Limitations - it is not intended for cars equipped with the Škoda Sound system (subwoofer in the spare wheel). Not possible for cars with hybrid drive (Octavia iV) and CNG (G-TEC).

I am not sure this refers to the mEHV mild hybrid, as the 48V battery stored under the passenger seat should have no impact on the space available in the boot for a spare tyre. But, perhaps it is rather the 17" wheels on the mEHV that makes the 18" spare unsuitable - this is exactly what I am trying to establish.

Interestingly, while on the Czech site they mention two exceptions (hybrid/CNG and sound system), on this site they only mention the sound system as preventing the use of this spare: https://shop.wingsskoda.co.uk/products/skoda-spare-wheel-set-octavia-iv

Typo

I did some more digging and on the Belgian Skoda site, the wheel 5E3601011B (18") and the kit 5E3093860B are listed as compatible with the mild hybrid IV, so it seems I have my answer.
