Is it possible to upgrade the wheel (bigger size Rim)

Featured Replies

I always wanted to have bigger wheels in my car. My octavia comes with 17 inch wheels with 225/45 tyres. Can I upgrade them to18inch Wheels with 225/40 tyres. Would they fit in my Octavia SL R? i know Octavia VRS has 18inch wheels.

Why not? Are you suspecting it will consume more fuel?

Yes.

I was thinking other way around. So, if I go for 16inch Rim, then fuel consumption will be less than what its consuming now?

@automassI never even gave the fuel a thought it was more about the comfort of the fare paying passengers, then the cost to you of the 18" wheels then tyres.

I don't understand it. why should it be uncomfortable? Some of this car has got 16inch wheels and some other variants are with 18inch.

if i find a good deal of set of 4 Rim and tyres, and sell my original set..it wouldn't be too much to add

He meant that 18" wheels would be less comfortable than 16" or the standard 17". The 16" might also improve fuel consumption, and pay for themselves in 1_000_000 miles or so.

This all assuming you fit the correct tyres to keep your speedo correct.

I use this tyre size calculator to compare the OEM size with tyre/wheel combinations I'm considering - a good rule of thumb is to keep the overall diameter of the wheel/tyre combination within 2% to avoid any problems with speedo/odometer errors.

225/40R18 are easily damaged by potholes because the sidewalls are so low. 205/55R16 are rarely damaged by potholes, and are Europes most popular car tyre size.

Low profile tyres are the equivalent of sleeping on a hard plank of wood. What you've done is take away your cushions.

I got the point and now do not want to change the wheels and tyres anymore. 16inch doesn't look good in this car..So probably I wouldn't go for 16inch either. I will stick what I've got. probably invest some money to upgrade something else. I am open for any recommendation. Just wanna give my car a treat.

spend a bit of money on cleaning products and keep your car well protected over the winter period.

Bilt Hamber products are my favourite. Bit costly, but worth the money I feel

This the estate with 16" wheels and 205/55-16 tyres, VW trims with Skoda badges applied.

16 inch rims with higher profile tyres to match the rolling diameter of 19 inch rims with ultra low profile tyres will fill the arches to the same amount.

Can i use 225/55 tyres in my 17inch wheels just to make the car raised a bit.

What’s the actual desired outcome here? You’re just throwing things out there with no apparent conclusion.

To give my car a treat..i thought changing the RIM will give a better performance and economy..

Best just keep the car well serviced and that is about as good as it gets for economy.

As for performance that is much the same.

Not even sure that using E5 super unleaded 97 or 99 ron will make a difference.  Depends where you buy your petrol and what the E10 costs you.

Narrower tyres might save you some fuel when you are changing the tyres next.

The 205/55/16s will be much narrower and that is the bigger saving with mpg over the different diameter. If economy is your end goal.

Would the car be bit raised with this profile of tyres and rim? I want the car to be little raised. Sometimes it hits the hump.

No. It's a stock size.

Even if the tyres were 2 mm more on a sidewall i doubt that would help it sometime hitting humps.

It is an Octavia so the same height as other Octavia or other similar sized passenger cars.

If you want a middle size family car to use as a taxi with more ground clearance i can not really think of many or any really.

Yeah we’ve gone from looks, better performance and economy to raised rise height in about 5 posts. I think the problem is you’re not sure what you want to do or why you want to do it.

There is a reason Octavias are used as taxis up and down the country. They do it well, out the box. Just leave it.
