Is it possible to upgrade the wheel (bigger size Rim)

Would the car be bit raised with this profile of tyres and rim? I want the car to be little raised. Sometimes it hits the hump.

If you put a photo up with a side view, someone might be able to comment on the tyre to top of wheel arch gap. Maybe the gap is less than it should be if hitting humps is a problem?

Maybe you've got sagging and/or broken springs or someone has previously fitted lowering springs?

Take it to the cinema or a restaurant.

I don't understand it. why should it be uncomfortable? Some of this car has got 16inch wheels and some other variants are with 18inch.

if i find a good deal of set of 4 Rim and tyres, and sell my original set..it wouldn't be too much to add

Between 18” summer and 16” winters is a big difference in comfort in favour of the 16” with higher sidewalls.

The 18” feels better handling/grip on decent roads in the summer, but when the roads get bad it’s no longer the case. The 18 tramline more on worn motorway lanes too.

I like the 205/55/r16, but if I wanted bigger I’d stop at 17 myself.

FWIW 16” 205/55/r16 are way cheaper than both the 17 and 18” tyres too.

The outer diameter of the stock 16/17/18 inch combinations are virtually the same to keep the speedo accurate.

Springs do sag a little after a hard life, perhaps a new set of springs and bump stops + dampers if you’re so inclined would be money better spent?

Previous owner didn't modify anything as the person was disabled and only used 24k when i bought it from CARSHOP showroom in Manchester. Spring is also not broken.  I drove this car 60k on top of previous owners 24k. I hit the hump so hard that my oil tank got broken last year which i got fixed. It normally doesn't hit the standard hump but some big one does. Well, Its nothing burning issue, I was just wondering, cause i can see some Octavia has got 16inch, some 17 inch and also some 18inch wheels. So why not i can have 18inch?

N.B: if anybody has changed their wheels to bigger rim or smaller rim please give me your feedback. I can see some 16inch wheels with tyres are only £250 and probably i can source some 18inch with tyres for £400. So need honest opinion with same car Octavia 2017 SE L

Are you thinking the 18s will raise the height? They won't. The 3 tyre sizes are below and all are within a few mm in outer diameter.

205/55/16 (631.9mm dia)

225/45/17 (634.3mm dia)

225/40/18 (637.2mm dia)

I am getting confused, did you hit a road hump (which goes whole width of road) at speed, and broke the oil sump, or do you mean one of those speed cushions where wheels straddle it.  Might be just terminology, cushion or hump.

Changing wheel rim and tyre size, where overall diameter is same (to within few mm) is not going to change ride height.   There is an off road package which raises the ride height (uses different springs)

I like your explanation. Nicely explained and also MarkyG82  given figures have given me the clear picture of the difference of the RIM. Thanks guys.

Just to make you clear, it was road hump (which goes whole width of road). In London some borough's speed humps are massively big. I had my oil sump broken in one of them.

Is your car one with beam or IRS?

If it’s independent rear, I wonder if the suspension from a 4x4 or scout would fit? Worth asking a garage.

As for London speed humps, some are horrible , requiring you to virtually stop and crawl over them even though there’s a 20 or 30mph limit not 5mph!

Not just in London, there are some speed bumps less than half a mile from my home in Wiltshire in a 20mph zone that unless you like your head hitting the roof lining need to be taken at under 10mph.

Please note - I am not a mechanic or expert in anything.

Are you sure the suspension on the car is in good order, I see you put the spring isn't broken but have you had everything checked, and springs can sometimes go at the top where it's difficult to see.

How about measure all four wheels from their centre to the wheel arches and compare with other 2017 Octavia 1.4 TSI SE L hatchbacks.

I hope a Private Hire Car / Taxi gets serviced and maintained by a proper mechanic and has regular inspections.

The suspension might well be sagged, and springs do break.

Quite often when 'traffic calming measures, Speed reduction measures, AKA as Sleeping Policeman are driven at without care and attention or reducing speed.

In the 'Good old days' you used to get Taxi versions of the likes of a Ford Sierra Estate or Granada.  Harder Wearing interior, heavy duty suspension.

My dad used to buy those as a tow car.

I had Peugeot 504,s because a local Taxi firm ran a fleet of them, had a garage and parts.

As it turns out they were good enough for the Taliban.

The 'Traffic Calming' humps (AKA Earth low-orbit launch ramp) in the exit from The Democratic Republic of Merton recycling and refuse centre are so steep that speed more than 2 MPH risks putting the front struts through the hood!
