Unexpected recall.

Featured Replies

My car is in tomorrow for a software update after having the SOS fault. A reminder came through and amongst other things, there is a recall to deal with. Anyone got any idea what this could be?

Most likely an update to the OCU unit, as they are loads of firmwares out there for them.

You should; any recall that my (or my father's) car has been subject to specified the extent of the required works.

When I had the SOS problem back in November 2021, my dealer updated the main software level from 0270 to 0276. Later cars have had further updates to the software but it seems that these are not installed to older cars when they are serviced, despite my invoices saying that they have checked to see if there any software updates required. (I am told it takes hours to download the updated software from Skoda's servers so can understand why it is only updated if will cure a reported fault.)

Note that this software cannot be updated over air like the navigation database and 'shop' screens, but you can check which version is installed by using the Menu / Settings / System Settings / System Information screen. Mine tells me that I software version 0276, and navigation database version 22.12 at present.

I am aware that the updates may take a long time to download. I have a loan car booked for the day, and they are supposedly holding the car free for Monday, just in case.

Dealers use what's called a BTACbox (NAS - Network Attached Storage) and this device downloads updates overnight for Flash files, Database updates for their diagnostic platform, and finally MMI (Multimedia updates)

The OCU updates come from the MMI folder, so they don't exactly need to download something they already have.

Translation, cheeky lying swines.

If they are Recall Actions, Service Campaigns, Workshop Actions then they should call them that, and know WTF to tell the Registered Keeper what needs doing.

If a Recall and letters going to Registered Keepers even if they do not take vehicles to Main Dealers then that is what they are. Random phone calls are just that.

When our second service was done last November, they mentioned there was a 'recall type' action needed. This, it transpired was the need to replace/change a sticker in the engine bay (slam panel?) relating to the LED headlights TBH I haven't consciously looked to see if there is a new/changed sticker, but if yours is an Edition with LEDs, then that could be what they are referring to.

The car is in today. They want it until Monday, unless the update goes more quickly than they anticipate. I have a diesel DSG Superb loan car.

The recall is someting to do with making an alteration in the manual, and confirming that it is done with Skoda. I'll post the change when I get the car back.

The car has been in for a week with an SOS warning. It wasn't software as that was the latest version, not the OCU, and eventually diagnosed as an aerial. This has been replaced, so we'll se how it goes.

The issue that caused the recall, beleive it or not, is a simple misprint on page 180. The original text gives the torque for the wheelnuts as 20Nm, and has had to be corrected to 120Nm. A small typo, but the error could cause a major incident, so I understand why Skoda have made the recall.

I thought it was 140Nm? I’m sure that’s what I read in the online manual 🤔

It's 140Nm in my manual for a July 2020 (MY21) car.

Definitely been changed to 120Nm.

I wonder if it’s changed again for recent models? I’ll see what the manual says next week when I finally pick mine up.

Seen as 140Nm in maintenance doc, 04.2022 date.

I have reported what is written in my book. I may have to call and find out whether it is correct. But it is probably irrelevant for me as I can't remember the last time I've had to tighten a wheelnut. And if you needed to on the road, who carries a torque wrench in the car?

In the Slovenian and Italian online manuals, the specified bolt-tightening torque is 140 Nm as well.

Not denying your words, just the https://manual.skoda-auto.com/004/en-com/Models I have looked at so far show 140 Nm (I check 4 random years including 2021)

No denying, VAG are a law unto themselves.

I don't carry mine in the car, but would have be at home to check, and I roughly know by feel.  It's more so VAG can cover themselves if you change wheel and it flies off.

I do. Makes it easier to change a wheel if I get a puncture.

140Nm not 120Nm :)

On our late mk1 Tiguan it was 120Nm for 4Motion models (which ours was) and 140 for front wheel drive.  😕

Why on earth would it be different?  Tyre places always wanted to do them up to 140.

In terms of angle (which is a more accurate way of doing it) the difference is tiny though - 140Nm is only a few degrees more than 120Nm.
