I always thought that engine covers were to deter DIY mechanics from fiddling with things!

My new Karoq 1.5 TSI does not have an engine cover. The pictures of the engine I have seen show it with a plastic engine cover. I assumed that the cover was not just decorative but helped reduce engine noise. However when I asked the Skoda service manager about it yesterday, he said I was the second person to ask that day and confirmed that the new cars they are getting in do not have an engine cover. The engine is very quiet so perhaps it was just for decoration.IMG_9584sk.thumb.jpg.67867cc985c91aa2faa039ce308efc6c.jpg

There are a reason why was removed engine cover for DXDB type, If I correctly remember, issue was with overheating.

The latest 1.5tsi has a redesigned particle filter now more close coupled to the engine so they have rerouted a cable

With a engine cover fitted it has chance of catching fire

You can see it in the latest engine pics

So is all dpca gpf or only some?

DPCA is a 1st gen 1.5 TSi so has a GPF but it's not close coupled like the later EVO 2 DXDB

yes, i have karoq 2019 with evo 1. it is euro 6 engine, but evo 2 is euro 7 ready.. evo 2 have cat and gpf one next to another near engine, but evo 1 have gpf and part od cat near engine, and one more cat 1 meter away.

those engines also have some other changes wich are connected to ACT, on evo 2 it works with little difference.

i dont know why it was second cat on evo 1 so far away, but cat rarely can be blocked, i never heard of that. GPF can, but i didnt see it on tsi engines. so both cars have similar equipment, but evo 2 had lower emissions which can put it in euro 7 category, along with with some electromotor in mild hybrid.

i have plastic cover but i am removing it when outside is hot summer, or from may to september..
