Front Springs

Recommended Posts

Has anyone experienced problems with front springs.

I have had just one break on me and have had it replaced.

The garage told me that they have to replace them quite regularly on all models.

Wonder if it is worthwhile having the other spring replaced too.

Just grateful that the spring went whilst I was at home and not on a journey.

One of my fronts went last year and despite me asking the warranty/insurance to replace both at 160k they said it would not be a safety issue replacing one. I believe it is quite common on Superbs especially the rears. Small piece of mine broke off rattled for a while and fell off.

Always replace springs and dampers in pairs. Having a mismatch side to side is potentially dangerous.

Thank you for this.

I have had both my front springs replaced.
A hefty £320 for the pair.

As a consequence of the new front springs, it seems my dipped headlamp beams have possibly altered as a consequence>

I have been flashed 3-4 times by oncoming cars since the springs were renewed so I assume the dipped beams are set too high.

Appreciate any thoughts please

Does the front end look high?

Does the rear end look low?

Maybe your rear springs are sagging and need replacing also?

If new rear springs increase the rear ride height, that will bring the dipped headlamp beams back down again.

Do the gaps between the top of the tyres and the bottom of the wheelarches look like the below photo when the car is unladen?

Mines got a sensor on front passenger side

it’s like a levelling switch with connecting rod on

it’s maybe became disconnected when they’ve change the springs.

no idea what it’s for

That's the ride height sensor - needed for the headlights to adjust the level correctly.

So that could be his cause of his headlights been wrong then if it became disconnected.
