Karoq replacement key options?

Featured Replies

Hello, I recently bought a Karoq with only one key . Would like a second . Dealer is quoting £393 .

Keyless ignition , anyone have any thoughts please .

Edited by ColinD

On a new Karoq there is option listed (in driver assistance) to have a third key, it is £40

https://www.skoda.co.uk/_doc/c63f4efb-a760-4a48-931f-baad88d42aa6

So basically they are charging a fortune for a copy to be made up and reprogramming it.

Realistically either ask the seller for second key, ask them to split the cost of getting it, or try ringing a few different dealers for a better price.

I’d be more worried about who has the other key.

Sorry, am I the only one that might be wondering why the thread is headed ‘Mr Steve Hoyle’

Thanks for suggestions , after ringing 30 auto locksmiths all but one said main dealer only as software too new .

As mentioned tried Kens , but eventually even he said , its just too new to get the software for the keyless ignition.

Found this old post and have a similar problem with a 2021 car I bought recently from a dealer and just wanted to know if/how you ever resolved it?

The dealer I bought from said the previous owner had said the 2nd key had been destroyed when they bought the car from them so it only had one. They wouldn't budge on replacing it or going halfers on a new one.

Everywhere I ask they say the software is too new (still?!) and I have to go to Skoda UK. Any recommendations please?

A "third"  key is still £40 from Skoda.
However I would never buy a car with keyless entry unless BOTH keys are with the car.

At a minimum the dealer should supply a second key as part of the package.

Is it possible for a Skoda dealer to look into the car and disable the other, missing, key?  It must be registered in the car system so they should be able to de-register it
As a minimum get a second key and then change the Primary User.  This as I recall needs both keys present to register them to the primary user.

This I would hope will remove the previous Primary User and keys, re registering it on the two new keys. One of which will be the same as before and the newly obtained key but it will not re-register the missing key.
This advice is worth what you have paid for it. So Phone/email Skoda support UK (or IE)

Thank you much for the detailed reply.

I couldn't find the previous owner in the list of users on the infotainment screen, so maybe they were already deregistered by the dealer prior to the sale? I will check with my local Skoda dealer if they can have a look in the settings just to be sure.

Anyway it's good to know that I can request a 3rd key from Skoda and use it as my 2nd key, as I really don't fancy having to spend £375 for a replacement!

Thank again for your prompt response and help :)

AFAIK there should be NO USERS AT ALL when you get the car. If there are I would suggest deleting them all and restarting a new Primary User.

Also get the my Skoda App and set that up with new passwords.  Even if you don't wan't to use the app. This is to ensure no one else has access. If the previous owner is still logged in to an app that can see the car they will know where the car is at all times (even if they don't have the missing key)
One paranoid thought If you know there is another key out there and haven't cleared all the users and re=registered with new keys what will insurance say if the car gets stolen?

Fortunatley I bought a Main Skoda Dealer's  demo car with two keys and all the Users zeroed.

Yeah I know what you are saying and I am quite concerned that another key may be still lurking in the wild.

I do have the My Skoda app installed, however, until I get a replacement/additional key I cannot register as the Primary User and 'lock it down'. I will request a 3rd asap and do everything you said above immediately. Thank you again. :)

I think you will find that the 3rd key option at £40 is only available when ordering a new vehicle

Oh really?! Ok. I will try anyway, bno harm in asking. Is there anywhere at the moment that can do spare/replacement keys cheaper - or are we at the mercy of the dealers? I live in Northern Ireland btw.

I would try Dealers both sides of the border, that is RoI and NI.  It might make a difference.

Also call Škoda Support to see if you can register a Primary User with just one key that will knock out the other one.

Also get the app going and do it with a new password for the car.
In your part of the world, security is a concern.

Thanks for this. Looks like I'll have to 'bite the bullet ' and pay the dealer price for a replacement key then. 😔

As soon as you can (i.e. within the hour after getting the new key) delete all the users and primary user and create a new Primary, registering the two keys.

Also get the My Škoda app and connect that to the car with a new password. This should ensure no one else can track the car.

Having read all these posts I am in the same position having purchased a car with only one Remote Key. Looks like I will have to bite the bullet also, is there anyone out there that has found a supplier at a more realistic price. I would be most great full to hear of any recommendation.
