Monroe shocks

Featured Replies

My 17 plate LK had an advisory for front shock so will probably replace them both soon. I found the OEM part from the label on the old ones. https://www.onlinecarparts.co.uk/oenumber/3q0413031ak.html

£156 each doesnt sound too bad for DCC ones. Does anyone have any opinion on these? Ideally I would want the full assembled shocks with springs, top mount etc but cant find these online anywhere. What top mount/bearing do I need because I think these ought to be replaced also - I'll re-use the old spring but I have to buy a spring clamp tool 😐

You won’t ever find a fully assembled prebuilt unit sorry.

That is extremely cheap for them shocks! Monroe are the OE manufacturer and in all fairness, are not amazing as many users have found out with genuine shocks.
But at that price!

Wow, how's onlinecarparts as a website to order from, never used them before

Aerosus have some really bad reviews I may swerve them and just by Monroe ones from Europarts for £250 ea. At least I can guarantee taking back if I have any problems.

Where have others bought new shocks? I don't want to spend £££'s on premier replacements,  just like for like will do me.

Still stand by what i say. A generic one is not a good shout, there are different dampers and spring combos meaning odd ride heights and handling.

Theres a reason no one offers this as an option.

Just add the word quality to the original statement and I’d say your set. 😂

Personally, I replaced all four of the OEM Monroe units with bilstein B6 damptronics as IMO the Monroe units offer a horrifically poor ride quality and constantly fail and leak.
if you were happy enough with them in the first place, then just pick anything as it couldn’t possibly be any worse.
when doing mine, I replaced the top mounts with bilstein mounts and fitted a new OEM bearing, and used the original springs as they were like new. Completely transformed the ride and drive of the car to what it genuinely should have been like from factory.

But B6 DampTronic are not available for some time.

Looks like I can order 2 x 23-254343 from the Bilstein UK website.

Are they long lead times?

Isn't ok just to replace the shocks on front axle with these? Leaving rear axle as standard? Also I'm planning to use the original springs, is that OK?

What else should I change ? Top mount and bearing?

Any part numbers for these?

Thanks

I’m not sure on the part numbers as I honestly can’t remember and the invoice isint in front of me at the minute.
front only will be fine for now until you get around to replacing the rears.
I used new bilstein mounts and ordered an OEM set of bearings for them and refitted the original springs.
the should be able to give you a rough idea on availability. I’ve seen them showing out of stock and then turning up within a few days.

only, if you are happy with current softness,
mine and several other BS members conclusion is, stock springs are too soft.
i can guess, that is marketing department choice, to make brighter difference between Comfort<>Normal<>Sport modes.

Little headache of chose and lottery factor is guarantied to avoid lowering -
acceptable combination for FWD 2.0 Hatch you can find in link i posted above,
but i can't choose which Ebach Pro springs will be perfect for AWD 2.0 Hatch on the rear axle.

also replacement costs can be saved by replace all together

I've sent a note to Bilstein using their contact us form from their website. Nothing back yet. Is there a better way to contact them? How do I know what the lead times are before I order I don't want to spend £££ and then wait for 4 weeks.

I think I will order 2 top mounts from their website and 2 x DCC shock absorbers, order 2 new OEM bearings and use the same springs from the existing.

I hope that all works out fine. 🫣

Scrub that last mail, i rang Bilstein in Leicester and was told lead time is looking at late July early Aug!

I guess they hope they will be able to deliver them at that time, I think nobody guarantees.

hi Arseneknows, (all)

my 2 front shocks are gone (leaking badly) after 110K miles (Monroe 3Q0413031AK) - very poor IMO was considering a letter to Skoda but cant ever get time. probably no point. 🙂The car has failed the NCT vehicle test in Ireland, but I just want to replace the existing Monroes (but with something better that wont give up so fast) and don't really want a harder ride or have to mess with springs etc.  I was looking for a simple , swap in option, roads are bumpy around here for sure.

I was wondering what you did in the end.

I'll be getting a mechanic to do it so want to keep it simple.

I was considering the https://www.bilstein-shocks.co.uk/products/23-238978 BILSTEIN B4 DAMPTRONIC SHOCK ABSORBER - 23-238978  as it mentions my exact part number or could I (shoud I) use the Bilstein B6 ?- on the website they look different https://www.bilstein-shocks.co.uk/products/20-254353?_pos=1&_sid=cc1144921&_ss=r

Or maybe I should try the Monroe link you had - has anyone bought from this site? are they ok - fast ? https://www.onlinecarparts.co.uk/oenumber/3q0413031ak.html

Car is cautiously drivable now but I need to do this asap.

I'm concerned I'm causing spring or other damage with little or no shock absorption.

I've taken to driving my wife's 2011 1.6 Greenline superb, things have gotten that bad 🙂

2017 Superb Sportline 190BHP DSG- shock part # from car is 3Q0413031AK

thx,

BenG
