EML dealer not resolved - code reader recommendations?

Featured Replies

Hi,

My local franchise dealer has not been performing very well in recent months and with a latest repair resulting in loss of coolant and RAC recovery, and EML coming back on associated with the first repair, I want to do my own diagnostics before going near the dealer again.

The dealer replaced the secondry water pump as they said that was causing the EML, but this problem still remains.  I saw mention in another thread some time back about a relay sometimes being the cause rather than the pump failing.  Where is this and where do I get one?

What code reader do people recommend for the Superb mk3 as well?

Thanks,

Hi

Using generic reader I get code P26F4 which is related to the secondary water pump isn’t it?

Probably helps if you at least listed which engine it is you have.

VCDS or OBD II, the same as for anything else from a CitiGo up to an Audi R8 V10.

Hi

Sorry, it’s a 2017 Superb Estate SEL Executive with the 2.0 TDi 150 manual.

A scan tool of any kind is only as good as the training of the person using it.

Just cause it may have a fault code for a water pump doesn’t mean the water pump is at fault. There are so many things it could be that a scan tool would not tell you about.

Also, why haven’t you taken it back to the garage if they’ve charged you to fix something and haven’t done so.

And name the dealer too, so other owners can avoid them.

Supposedly trained people failed twice, according to my reading of the first post...

Im not saying they dont, seems like the usual read a fault code and change the first thing that pops up.

They need to be held more accountable for it and the car thrown back at them and fixed at their expense.

I favour learning to DIY; kinda the point of asking for help (and giving it) on forums like this.

And specifically what the OP wants to do.

@MrRich do you know your engine code please?

Probably on build sticker in boot.

Thanks for the reader recommendations.

Dealer resolved problem, they covered labour due to the previous coolant loss.  The other electric water pump had also failed.  Should all be okay now!

Chances are more likely they just changed the wrong one in the first place!

Thanks,

Get a Carista scanner. They work with all apps, even free ones. Plus there is a way of getting the app subscription for free if you have an Android device. It's about 30 quid on Amazon. It'll scan every control module and you can perform service procedures , view live data and customise the car(for example changing the start up screen on your infotainment from Skoda to a VRS logo or Changing lights or lock settings!)
