Feeling unsafe in my octavia

Featured Replies

Ello, I have a 2018 Skoda octavia and I've had it about 1year and a bit, and only recently that I've felt unsafe. This topic has probably covered already but I've been on the motorway doing about 100km and suddenly the car brakes. To stop it from braking I would need to take thr foot off the acceleration. This only happens when it is wet out and intermittent braking every 2 to 3 mins. Scares the crap out of me everytime especially with the kids in the back.

Ive been researching and this could be a safe mode feature , but it's actually doing the opposite.  I thought this could be a caliper issue with the brakes sticking. I had the calipers refurbished and after a week, same issue happened again.

We will be heading up the country soon and hope you guys can steer me in the right direction or make some sense of this issue.

Thanks in advance.

Have you got ACC/Front assist on your car?

No, I think I have the basic model. On the infotainment I can select on or off on traction control but that's not the issue, I didn't find anything on front assist.

Is it braking or is it loosing power?

Feels like braking.

I only recall this being mentioned once previously: https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/511878-octavia-iii-randomly-braking-on-the-highway/

No clear resolution but the the last assumption was the brake disc drying system was causing it. Might be worth finding a local VCDS user to perform an autoscan and possibly turn it down or even off. It looks like there is a measuring block stating when it last activated so that's worth checking assuming you can replicate the problem on a rainy day :)

@L_W hasn't been online for a while but hopefully they'll receive a notification I've mentioned them and let us know if they resolved it.

edit:

BDD is configured in 03 - ABS, adaption channel: IDE04456-Brake disk drying

Mine is set to medium from factory.

Likely related measuring blocks in 03 - ABS:

IDE04456-IDE04775 Brake disk drying-Odometer reading of last activation
IDE04456-MAS03095 Brake disk drying-Function status

Is there a way of just turning the wheel dry assist off? Like removing a fuse?

It's part of the ABS module so it doesn't have it's own fuse. If you pull the ABS fuse you'll have loads of warning lights and no working ABS...

You'll need to use VCDS/ODBEleven or something similar to change the adaption channel.

Would the odbEleven pro or ultimate can change this setting? Looking to get one

I don't know anything about the differences between OBDeleven versions I'm afraid, I use VCDS. Hopefully someone will be able to confirm for you.

Seem like this issue often hits BMW's. Some folk suggest changing the brake fluid so if that's not been done in the last two years, it might be worth trying - especially if you don't know what fluid was used. At least one person had the ABS module replaced under warranty which did fix it.

It will, yes.

Use the Pro. I would avoid paying extra for the ultimate. One touch apps for long coding are very risky and results can be uncertain and difficult to unwind. Long coding is much more controllable.
