Headlights Octavia Mk IV

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm seriously considering buying a 2nd hand Octavia mk 4. 1.5 TSI eTec, in case it's somehow relevant.

One of the very important things for me is headlights.

I would like the matrix LED fandango, with auto high beam and cornering.

Now - I can't get a definitive answer from my research, so I would like to ask here: there are 2 headlight types, one with those 2 "L"s separating the optic blocks(exhibit A in my attachement below) and one without it(exhibit B).

Is the difference purely esthetic, or is there more to it?

Can both A and B variants have matrix LED?

Maybe also a side question: does anybody here have experience with Octavia Mk 4 matrix LEDs, and if so - is it really true that they don't dazzle oncoming traffic even with high beam always on?

Thank you!

Exhibit B are not Matrix headlights. They’re pretty good though, and if you pay up, can get an auto-dip function (simple full/dip beam).

Typo

I have Matrix led and auto high beam and cornering. Mine looks like A.

Only A is matrix.

If properly calibrated they do not dazzle, although you can still get flashed, as some drivers like to flash even if they are not dazzled, but they see from far away that your lights are lighter than usual...

Most cars have proper calibration from factory, however some don't. Dealrships should have equipment and knowledge to get them fixed.

Hope that answers all your questions :)

Many thanks for your replies!

They clarified perfectly.

A is matrix. In my opinion not worth the money. The benefit is you`d have your side illuminated really well at the cost of some flashes. With traffic road would usually be dark spotted so...I drove an Insignia with matrix and these were much better than the Skoda ones. But the headlight A looks so much better and blinker is also in the F shape :)

Interesting... You're not the first to say this.

Insignia's matrix is better in terms of reaction time? Number of LEDs?

Did you drive both Octavia matrix and Insignia matrix?

IMO the B lights are way less bright compared to the A (matrix) options even on low beam.

I have the matrix version, picture A. But I must say, I don't understand the "cornering" feature at all. My brother drives an older Volvo XC60 and also has cornering feature but, when he turns his steering wheel, even if standing still, you can see the lights adapting to the direction where the car is going. This is totally non-existent in the Octavia. The only thing that I can see sometimes is when you come upon an intersection visible in the navigation system, it will light up a bit on the sides, which is pretty neat, but I would prefer a proper "cornering" light so you can see better in sharp turns.

I don't know how this works in a non-matrix version of the Octavia though.

It happens when I turn the steering wheel. But honestly, I only notice it in my garage, seeing how the wall in front of the car is becoming lit. While driving at night I don't see it making any difference though.
