@lol-lol  I have fixed yet again for another year.

I little higher tariff than i fixed in January but i figured worth it just now.  Maybe another renewal later in the year if down any, and if not this time next year.

(I am well in credit now and gas heating getting turned down soon and maybe just up for a few weeks if there is cold weather after the 'Scorchio' later this week.)

The past weeks of the temperature being around or below freezing the miles par kWh on my 1 mile run down to the car park has shown 2.1 -3 miles.   Up by 10 degrees C this morning and it shows this.  EDIT. Back up to home and it was at 1.7 miles or so.

2nd charging stop today and 2nd time ElectroVerse card was not accepted on Charge Place Scotland charger. I have one more charge to do today and I will see if 3rd time lucky or then I will contact them. The ElectroVerse has been OK up to now but it is a few weeks since used it. Nice cheap charging at this location just 1/2 mile from Stirling Castle View Park and ride. 38 minutes for 20 kWh £10. £1.45 for first kW then 45 pence a kWh. Then £1 a minute over 50 minutes. PS. Last night used new Chargers at an Arnold Clark dealership in Glasgow. 55 pence a kWh. This morning in Girvan on a 11 kW AC @47 pence a kWh. The CCS / DC is 62 pence here or at Turnberry public car park. Cheaper is at Trump Turnberry in the Golfers car park 60 pence. Supposedly for guests. Or at Dowhill Farm. 55 pence.

Warmer Weather, still All Seasons on but at a slightly higher pressure.

Pretty much 3.3 miles to the kWh over this past month.

Recent charging. Home on the 3 pin, or AC 7 or 11 kw, and some DC / CCS 50 kW charging.

Sometimes pre heating used.

Pretty much always charging to 100% or a few to 99%

10 kWh 4 hours 19 minutes 0.70 pence

10 kWh 4 hours 4 minutes 0.70 pence

12 kWh 5 hours 10 minutes 0.86 pence

9 kWh 3 hours 48 minutes 0.63 pence

2 kWh 45 minutes 0.12 pence

19 kWh 38 minutes £9.77 pence

12 kWh 1 hour 4 minutes £5.42 pence

16 kWh 57 minutes £7.57 pence

19 kWh 24 minutes ?? £10.54 pence

17 kWh 7 hours 29 minutes £1.22 pence

15 kWh 6 hours 29 minutes £1.06 pence

5 kWh 2 hours 6 minutes 0.35 pence

2 kWh 59 minutes 0.50 pence

19 kWh 40 minutes £11.46 pence

179 kWh / £30.89 My MINI App shows. Must be missing some payments.

My calculator adds to . £51.73 Charging costs.

179 kWh x 3.3 miles = 591 miles.

....................

Petrol at 135 pence a liter is £6.14 a gallon.

£51.73 divided £6.14 is 8.4 gallons.

591 miles divided by 8.4 gallons would be 70.3 mpg.

591 miles at 50 mpg would be 11.82 gallons. £72.57

591 miles as i would drive a MINI Petrol might be 45 MPG if lucky, so 13.13 gallons.

£80.61

Is the £29 less with the charging and messing about and hanging about worth it.???

Suits me alone, but not when any passengers involved, it is a PITA then and you are more than £29 with Coffees or KFC etc. PS . Edit. Just finished 3 hour charge on 11 kW AC. 90 miles covered since last at 99% and it took 27 kWh to be back at 99 % showing 104 mile range. £12.74 it cost for 90 miles.

*Cost pretty much the same as 2 gallons of unleaded for 90 miles to charge on a not the slowest but not Rapid public charger . *

I suppose, for cheapest EV ownership, key is avoiding public charging if at all possible.

600 miles could have cost as little as £12 with the tariff from home. Best of all, zero messing about to re-energise the car, not even stopping at any petrol stations.

Have you considered a bigger battery car for next time? One that would reduce your public charging to once a long trip?

  • Author

@wyx087 Not everyone is at home or at others homes to get cheap tariffs or can have a Home charger and cheap tariffs. using a 3 pin cable and the small battery is OK for when i want much cheapness.

I like small cars, but i am about to replace a very comfortable Diesel estate with a slightly newer diesel estate.

Going into Low Emission Zones are not an issue with a 'Disabled class vehicle' for the VED.

I have no interest in owning or even leasing a bigger battery EV, or even a PHEV.

A small PHEV would be OK for me as a daily driver.

I need a big car just for carrying people or stuff or towing and that needs to be reliable.

Small car for solo driving.

Maybe the Skoda Epiq will be just what i am looking for next year or i will stick with the car i have and the lease extended till there is something as comfortable and yet small. (The new MINI Cooper or the Aceman are not IME.)

Renault 5 EV Sill embellishment damn annoying. (for me.)

The Alpine A90 will be the same, and then there is the shiny black plastic crap, like with MINI,s.

Saw a new Mini Aceman electric last night... christ that thing is ugly... at first I thought it was some weird Toyota crossover.

I had seen at dealers launch and thought horrible. Now seeing on the road they really are rank. There was one that I had to get close up to see what it was as I had no idea seeing it moving fast off in the distance. It was all Black, car and wheels. PS. Was almost run into by a Brand new Toyota FJ in baby blue and white. It was too gridlocked at the carpark exit to go back to get a good look but as much as I could see it looked great. BIG.

Broxden Park & Ride Perth.

35 miles driven to get here and charging at not off peak hours. £4.54. 8.1 kWh.

Tesla cheaper than Perth Council chargers down the brae as £1 for the first kWh there.

Scone park and ride so the other side of Perth and would be handy for those coming or going across from Forfar / Aberdeen direction or those going towards Blairgowrie and north to the A93.

Chargers have been in for over 1 year. Never been switched on.

SEPA must employ a number of disabled, or maybe there is an issue with the security if their vehicles, all EVs are parked in their large car park at the rear of the building. My suspicion is lazy bar stewards.

EDIT.

Sorry, i missed what you were asking about. ^^^. Answered about SEPA, Doh.,

No idea about Perth / Scone, a waste of public money as far as i can see.

Not unusual for Councils in Scotland. Pith up & Brewery disorganisation. or Arse & Elbow.

.........................

Stirling.

Could be all on holiday / leave or strike or who knows. I have never ever come here to charge be it day or even middle of the night without 1 white van parked in the bay next to the public charger. PS finished charging. Cheapest rapid I will get to use for the next couple of days.

The MINI was coming in for a brake fluid and pollen filter change so I thought I might have a dynamic back road blast with everything off and see the efficiency in a warmish day.

Also before taking a new Mini Electric out for a couple of hours. I can't get a roadtest of a JCW Mini as no dealers with a demonstrator.

Anyway the New Cooper SE is just a pita as far as I am concerned. Took the used JCW petrol out instead as it is exactly what I want to buy next year. A 2023 model.

Great to drive, but too hard suspension / tyres and the seats are too hard. I think it is a 5 door Cooper S from 2023 I will be buying instead of my BMW estate.

This morning early 3% and 1 mile after going 500 yards to the charger. 1 false start charging. The 6% / 4 miles was what I arrived with about 10 hours earlier. I was using Green + mode. Starting it was in Mid. It was a cold night.

3% to 100% 30.6 kWh, £13.48. Car app says 33kW. Including the 2 minutes it was charging before it stopped when first plugged in.

Looking forward to our Racing Green Cooper E Exclusive with level 1 pack.

I gather the BMW MINI - Great Wall Motors partnership use SVOLT battery packs containing CATL (pronounced cattle i gather).

Saw you were down to about 4 miles range in a picture above. Have you gone below zero miles and by how far ?

My Scenic, which uses the LG CHEM NMC lithium packs seemed to have quite a large lower buffer. I went 11 miles beyond zero before it even came up with a warning of limited performance.

Just wondering what to expect with the 2025 smaller battery pack ie 36 kwh useable/displayed, 40 kwh actual reportedly.

Test car at recommended 80% charged was showing 105 miles range but they probably driven in GO KART mode most the time on test !

@lol-lol I have never run it to 0%. When plugged in this morning it was 2 miles / 3%. Then cut out charging after 2 minutes and 1 mile / 3%.

If i had set off 6 miles to the nearest 50 kW charger i know it would have got there and showing 0% if set to Green +.

Maybe even in Sport, Mid or Green.

AA van was just putting a Peugeot e-208 electric's front wheels on a dolly across the road, i never bothered him to ask if flat battery or stuck in drive.

Last night i was 25 miles away with 16 miles range as i came off the Motorway, went into Green + & got here showing 6 miles. that was doing 50-60 mph in average speed cameras & 2 30 mph villages.

Downhill mostly from passing Kilmarnock to Turnberry / Dowhill and i knew there was a choice of 2 rapids there if the range had not increased.

I preferred driving the MINI E to the SE. Driven one E but 3 SE,s.

But really not the seats and not that touch screen compared to the old Cooper SE & i certainly would not go without the Heads Up Display.

4 Miles to the kWh was easy to get showing in the MINI E compared to coming out of my car and not getting 3.5 miles a kWh on the same route.

I am going MINI shopping this week to see if i can find a Cooper S 2023 5 door, but no hurry.

If i see what is dead right i will get one.

Maybe we will get a Dacia Spring next year or when Suzuki SX needs replaced.

Dacia Spring Van not worth getting price wise compared to just a car and maybe even taking seats out.

Really a no brainer as far as price and a car to do 6 miles a day each way and free charging @ other half's work.

Not buying one even if cheap just leasing.

I love to see how much they will do beyond zero.

Presume it is a couple of kWh so ten miles or so if one is super careful and/or car goes into tortoise mode.

Looking forward to delivery in August. Presuming if the boat does not catch fire which seems to happen to every other ship if reports are to be believed.

Funny but my company moves 4m finished cars a year and I don't hear of such problems.

Hmm, pushing them into the zero portion of their claimed fuel supply, regardless of them being BV or fossil fuelled is one step too far for me and I would expect most people, although those fossil fuelled ones do have an distinct advantage, it only requires a gallon or 5 litres of fuel poured into the tank to get going again, something that is easy to do without needing a mobile generator.

Do I detect some doubt in your mind about the number car transporter ships catching fire, surely you cannot believe that they are not true fires but hoaxes??

I am never going to push beyond Zero and need a RAC recovery. Not going to drive round and round chargers waiting to run out to see how far an EV can go.

Cr,ap charger infrastructure some places will be an issue. Well reasonable priced infrastructure. So that is 3 charges I have had since away from home. CCS 50 kW charger @45 pence and twice AC 11 kW @47 pence a kWh. The CCS would have been 62 pence. If available. Prices going up in July. To 50 pence AC and 70 pence DC. .. So the Under 50 pence is like a petrol getting 45-50 mpg. Above that is paying too much as far as I am concerned. 75-89 pence a kWh public charging is just crazy as far as I am concerned and just if I really need to and no alternative. But I have all the time in the world. As long as the chargers work. Last night Charge Place Scotland took £2 off me that they say I never paid. Truth their payment company Stripe never charged me. Probably because the charger cut out. £2 was minimum charge. In Ayrshire £5 minimum and no use for PHEV,s small batteries or just wanting a splash and go.
