Ambient lighting. Is it possible a retrofit ?

Featured Replies

My car does not have the ambient light function. Neither the footwell lights, nor the dashboard and door lights.

I wonder if it is possible to retrofit at least the footwell lights. I know it needs wiring, lights and of course coding. Is there anyone who has done it?

i am still looking for this upgrade.

Can anyone with ambient and footwell lights share the 09-BCM and 5F-infotainmentadaptations?

It's something you can do with the VCDS cable in 5 minutes.

Thank you.

Sure, thank you very much.

Please tell me what is the equipment of your car?  (e.g. footwell lights with 30 colors, ambient lights, ACC...)

This is not possible to retrofit with VCDS. You need to upload datasets - something VCDS cannot do. I believe it's also FoD.

thank you for the answer. I am familiar with this procedure, i have ODIS S,  ODIS E and a 5054A cable.

I didn't know that it would also need upload dataset. I thought that all that was needed was a change in the coding and in the adaptations of the BCM. But I still don't know if all BCMs support this function or BCM module change is also needed.

Could you give me more information please ?

Since I find it almost impossible to manage to retrofit the official interior ambient lighting equipment, I'm thinking of installing something like this.

Car Ambient Lights RBG 64 Color Interior Acrylic Strip Light Guide Fiber Optic Interior Decoration Atmosphere Lamp 18 In 1 LED (aliexpress.com)

I've actually had it in my hands for a while now. I really like the lighting performance. Stable and uniform lighting with many colors as a selection from the mobile phone via bluetooth.
The installation, at least for the front part (dashboard), seems to me to be easy, the plastics come out easily without special tools.
What do you say;

Well i did it my way.

I bought a set (ambient light) from Aliexpress with nice LED strips, very narrow and with smooth light effect.

So i remove the dash trim inserts. It's pretty easy, you just pull them out of the dash.

I will show you the procedure for the small one (from the driver's side)

The trim :

I cut and attached the LED strip with VHB 3M double side adhesive tape

Ready for the installation:

The wiring:

I decided to put the main module under the central console.

so i hid the wires under the driver's foot mat

I love it. It has 2 zones, one for the dashboard and the second for the footwell lights (if you want to fit them)

Hello Gianni , same name here 😊, can you share which rgb pack you used for the dashboard  and did you install ambient lights to the back doors too?

I did the installation myself on all the doors.

It was not an easy task. I spent many hours thinking about it.

I finally made the decision and did the installation.

The door paneling needs to be removed of course. Then, removal of the plastic piece that in the best versions accepts the lighting.
Carefully cutting a thin line with a dremmel and gluing the LED strip.

Some photos from the "project"

The inside of the card door. Must be cutted with dremmel of with a iron solder.

After the removal of the plastic trim.

Masking with tape and ready for cutting.

Trim after cutting. The "gap" is almost 3mm.

I glued the LED strip with 3M double side tape.

I put the plastic trim back to its possition. I used a solder iron to melt the joints.

This is the final result.

Amazing work my friend and I would love to see the final result of the car in a night mode !!!!
thank you for sharing all those details , I have already the “ambient light pack” when I bought the car but it’s less bright that I thought and it is really a bummer to not have led strips at the back doors when the rest of the car has , it takes away the feeling you know.
I think I will try to install this one at least for the back doors and find a way to connect it to the front or totally cancel the one from the factory and install something similar to your.
anyway sorry for the long post
amazing effort , thank you for sharing!!!

Hey , I have seen the thread and the guy from ,Russia I suppose , and I have seen that in order to put the ambient strips  on the same panel as the front you need to adjust it or cut  something like you did.
all the retrofits video that I have seen they completely put the ambient lights elsewhere like you see in the photo

Hello Giannis20,

First of all, congrats for your achievement.

Can you help me with some hints related to the dashpanel Trims removal(both: short and longest)?
For the longest one, is it necessary to remove the MIB3 touch screen? If yes, have you
disconnected the +12V battery earth strap, as a prerequisites?

I've took a look in the Body Repair manual, and the full procedure is as above, but maybe there is a short/simplest one.

Any details/advises will be highly appreciated.

Thx

The dashboard decorations are very easy to remove. You don't need to remove anything else.

Just pull them out with your fingers, gently and carefully. There are no screws, just clips

Hello, again.
I am thinking seriously to add footwell lights (front and rear). I am searching for the retrofit option and still gathering information.
The Octavia is based on the MQB EVO platform (like Golf8).

MQB-EVO.jpg

So i need the hardware (wiring and lights) and the coding (adaptations, etc.)

The lights are controlled by the BCM with a LIN connection and are specific to this model.

Footwell-lights.jpg

this photo is not mine, it belongs to a guy from a Russian site named KUR6UN (https://www.drive2.ru/l/611346608059065510/)

There are 4 lights (each one for a specific place) with the codes:
5E3947415
5E3947415A
5E3947415B
5E3947415C

I have bought the first two (for the front seats).
I am making the wiring right now.
The schematic:

front-footwell-lights.jpg

So there is a need for Pin 29 from the T73c connector and Pin70 from the same connector (T73c)

My BCM:

myBCM1.jpg

OK, pins are already exists, that's good (we have seen and read a lot about missing pins from various versions of BCMs)

The connector (from my car)
from-my-BCM.jpg

So far so good. Looks like I'll need to put a wire on pin 29 and  splice from pin 70 a wire for current.
And that's exactly where I'm at so far. I haven't made the connection, I'm making the wiring.

My big concern  is about adaptation. I haven't found anything similar so far for the Octavia, but only for the Golf8

This is the link

https://www.motor-talk.de/forum/golf-8-fussraumbeleuchtung-t7284946.html

So at this point any information for adaptation or something like that, it could be very useful.

This will only work if you have multicolour ambient lighting activated, which as mentioned above is a protected feature.

If you don't, no Bueno

Thanks for replying.

Not good news for me. My car don't have the multicolour ambient lighting (the 6T0 code means "Without interior light in footwell" ). So it is going to be a dead end.

On the other hand, I've already bought the lights and done the wiring, so I'll give it a try. I have nothing to lose but time.

Hello Giannis20,

Can you help me, where do you connect power and earth for door lights? What wires did you splice in to?

  • Author

Hello, I got electricity from the module of every door. I connected each light submodule to the constant current of the door module.

Front-right-door-38.jpg

I suppose that it is switch power right?

Im thinking of using the rear wiper fuse fuse to power the main module, where do you power the main module?

  • Sponsor

Download the fuse assignments off of Skoda Erwin. If you want ignition switched, look for fuses that are "terminal 15"

Ensure you correctly protect the wiring you're installing as it's likely the circuit you're connecting to has a higher rating ...
