Ambient lighting. Is it possible a retrofit ?

Hello, again.
I am thinking seriously to add footwell lights (front and rear). I am searching for the retrofit option and still gathering information.
The Octavia is based on the MQB EVO platform (like Golf8).

MQB-EVO.jpg

So i need the hardware (wiring and lights) and the coding (adaptations, etc.)

The lights are controlled by the BCM with a LIN connection and are specific to this model.

Footwell-lights.jpg

this photo is not mine, it belongs to a guy from a Russian site named KUR6UN (https://www.drive2.ru/l/611346608059065510/)

There are 4 lights (each one for a specific place) with the codes:
5E3947415
5E3947415A
5E3947415B
5E3947415C

I have bought the first two (for the front seats).
I am making the wiring right now.
The schematic:

front-footwell-lights.jpg

So there is a need for Pin 29 from the T73c connector and Pin70 from the same connector (T73c)

My BCM:

myBCM1.jpg

OK, pins are already exists, that's good (we have seen and read a lot about missing pins from various versions of BCMs)

The connector (from my car)
from-my-BCM.jpg

So far so good. Looks like I'll need to put a wire on pin 29 and  splice from pin 70 a wire for current.
And that's exactly where I'm at so far. I haven't made the connection, I'm making the wiring.

My big concern  is about adaptation. I haven't found anything similar so far for the Octavia, but only for the Golf8

This is the link

https://www.motor-talk.de/forum/golf-8-fussraumbeleuchtung-t7284946.html

So at this point any information for adaptation or something like that, it could be very useful.

Hello @Giannis20,

Since you already did some research, you might know what pin types are used in BCM connectors? Can you please share this kind of details?

I'm an interested to know for the Brake Pad Wear indicator retrofit which is not present on my car, T46B/PIN 12 especially.

Thank you

Small update

I saw on the internet that there is a small LED light on the center console.

This is it. As you can see there is a small opening and inside there is a LED.

centre-vent2.jpg

Mine of cource didn't have that light, there was only the opening

centrer-vents-9.jpg

So, i did a small LED RGB light from a LED stripe that i have.

centrer-vents-6.jpg

I removed the cental vents , it's just a snap, there's no screw or anything like that. There is a small thread about that

Anyway, i upload again my photo.

Octavia.jpg

As I have described, I have already installed interior lighting in my own way. I also connected this LED there (it is 5V)

I did the wiring.

centrer-vents-14.jpg

Αnd installed the LED whichever way I thought would be best.

centrer-vents-11.jpg

And this was the result.

centrer-vents-12.jpg

I didn't like the intensity of the light, so I decided to put a white acrylic piece in front of the LED.

This is the result

centrer-vents-17.jpg

Μuch better, and the appearance is like the factory one

Some photos from the lighting, in the evening.
In reality, it is lower in intensity than what is shown in the photos. I am extremely happy with this result as well.

Hello,

I don't know if this is the correct thread to ask my question but I can't find the answer in any others post and I don't see the reason to open a new one.

Does anybody know what are the electrical connectors for the Puddle Lights located in the exterior mirrors

I've been thinking on this quick retrofit since the coding it seems straight-forward, and hopefully this isn't a protected(by Swap/FeC code) feature.

@East_Yorkshire_Retrofits, do you have any insights?

Really appreciate your inputs.

Thank you

Hi been following this thread and ordered this kit. I only wanted the dash and foot well lights but opened the parcel today and there is foot lights door light and lots of other lamps. But no instructions in the box or links to the "app" the Web store has lots of questions asking about where to find the app but no response from the store. Did anyone here manage to find the app or instructions?

Did you order the exact same kit? or something similar?
IF you ordered the same kit you should find a small booklet with a QR code with the app link.

As far as I know it's the same kit as listed. Can't find anything booklet wise in the box just all the wiring modules and switch. But no instructions so any advice would be appreciated

Well, if it is the same as mine, you can try the same application.

I-AT Lamp       is the name of the application.

amazing, I noticed the golf had lightning in this area. My VRS doesn’t, though it has the other ambient lights.

do any Octavias have this as standard?

Any interest in making some more up the same as yours to sell? If it’s plug and play, it might be easy to install.

Same here, my vRS has the hole but no led in it.  I wonder if there is a Skoda or VW part number for the led that fits….

Actually there is an original part for this LED light.

The code is: 3v0919173a

image.thumb.jpeg.74c5dce3f4a4b17f3ba2f99e82ecefda.jpeg

But i don't think it is plug and play. This light has only 2 wires. so it is only emites one color (possible white)

That’s interesting, i think I’d be happy with a white one, it’s more functional there so white might be useful.

that part number comes up as the same light that’s in the door handles when i googled it.

I wonder what the equivalent part number is for the golf, that might be multi coloured

Multi colour LEDs need more than 2 wires, I suspect they either stick with white or fit a blue LED instead.

Yes they finally replied and said the same thing.

Out of curiosity where did you get the power from to run the lights. I was thinking of trying to get a feed from the input to the usb c sockets in the center console as they power up when the car is unlocked but go off after a set amount of time once the car is locked. That way the footwell lights would be on when I open the door?

This was the only point I didn't explain in my presentation. And that's because I thought the way I did it was particularly complicated.
However, since many people have asked me through messages, here's what I did very briefly.

I connected a wire to the 3rd connector of the comfort control module (BCM) at Pin 35. This is the + for the lighting system module.

T73c.jpg

20231209-103424.jpg

T73c1.jpg

Then i program that pin to operate as parking light (standlicht in Deutch)

Screenshot-20231216-142953-OBDeleven.jpg

This way it provides power whenever the lights come on and I get exactly the result I want.

I am trying to do the LED light at the central vent OEM style.. I ordered the unit for 20€ and will make a harness. Just thinking where to put it on.. maybe glove box light, but i have to investigate how the switch works..

  • 1 month later...

@Giannis20 Do you know how the glovebox lightening works? is there a switch?

I bought the original 5E0919173A LED light for 20€.. it fits perfectly in the hole.. now i am thinking where i can put the LED on.. maybe glove box light?

You have an idea?

Thanks!

  • 3 weeks later...

I made an adaper .. catching the light from the USB C Supply :) Didnt test it yet in the car but i am sure it will work. I will post pictures after testing.

So Ive made an adapter taking it from the usb c lightening.. it is working perfectly.. but.. two different OEM Version came in red..

The red light isnt really visible.. and i want it in white.. looking for a solution..

So.. almost done.. switching polarisation made the LED glow white..

To make the original LED brighter i switched the resistor from 8000 Ohm to 1000 Ohm.. now its nice and bright .

Will that significantly affect the LED life?

The whole unit costs 12 Euros at my local skoda dealer..

A lower resistor is just letting more through to the LED and it will glow brighter..

The original light was way too low for me so .. i will leave it this way..

So to avoid damage to the original LED i changed to a brighter LED with the correct resistor ... tests look amazing..

First Pic original Skoda.. second with new LED..
