Helix Subwoofer Install

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Another day, another needlessly expensive project.

I was interested in getting more mileage out of the sound system, even after the sizable bump from MIB 1 to MIB 2.5.

I ended up reading over on the VW side of things they offer a kit by Helix for those without Dynaudio or in my case CANTON..

Install was very simple, add new radio harness adapter, remove the power pins from the original harness into the new one.

Wire down the C-Pillar.

Remove the plastic behind the rear passenger side seat belt to run the cable into the boot.

The unit needs to be programmed using a speical tool to get the most mileage, Ebay sellers rent these for around £30.

As these are designed for mainly the golf, the sound quality before programming isn't convincing to say the least.

However after programming, the bass and sound quality boost from the subwoofer and DSP/Amplifier included with the unit is really something to be reckoned with.

I'm thinking of doing this same install. I'm undecided between this, an underseat sub or a small custom boot build.

How easy is the programming?

The programming is super easy, just plug in the device to the bottom.

The device has a display, set it to 42(?) and press the selection button.

Wait until programming is complete (few seconds) and done.

Awesome thanks mate.

Where did you source the programmer? I know you can rent them off ebay. Don't really fancy buying one for 1 use.

I got mine from Ebay, just a rental.

Most sellers are nice to communicate with, just ask if their programming dongle has the profile for the Octavia 3 as I think it came with a new firmware update. Dealers do also have them but in Manchester none of them seemed to have them. Maybe you might have better luck.

So it seems these subs are now like hens teeth to come by in the UK. Theres only really 2 places you can get them and they're around £700.

1 seller on ebay from Germany....but they won't ship to the UK.

There was 2 used ones on ebay but 1 was £600 and the other was collection only and a 3.5 hour drive away.

Finally I managed to find a brand new one on german amazon for a really good price including shipping and import fees. Also found the programming dongle on ebay for £80 which I can sell or rent out once I've used it.

Also ordered a roll of sound deadening to cover the boot before fitting. Just need a break in the this lovely July rain so I can get started!

Ah, I had this problem getting one too. I nearly had a friend from Germany proxy ship one to me.

Too late since you've already bought one, but for anybody viewing the thread; They have them on Inchcape's website ships from UK. They were skeptical shipping one for a skoda but we know that they work! https://store.inchcape.co.uk/collections/multimedia-technology/products/vw-plug-and-play-sound-system-for-spare-wheel-bay-000051419b

Really not bad of a job once the rain lets up!

Hi all - reviving this thread as I've recently bought a 2021 Karoq and love it apart from the sound system.

I'm started looking into the traditional route of upgrading speakers, dsp, sub etc. and have done this on previous cars but the Karoq was a big upgrade for me and I'm reluctant to start ripping panels off and risk damaging them just yet!

This Helix system looks ideal and seems to have rave reviews from everyone who's used it... I've found one on German Amazon for around £500 (Inc delivery/customs) so think I'll go for it!

@gs86 - how did you get on with the install? Any tips/tricks, and more importantly, how were the results?!

My main concern is that all the reviews say how important having the right model selected through the dongle but there isn't a Karoq option... Crossing fingers that Tiguan or T-Roc will be close enough?

I would like to ask the same, if someone did this install on a Superb 3 estate. Mine is a 2019 early facelift one with MIB 2.5.
Would the setup for Passat B8 variant work for it?
