Volume keeps turning up??

Featured Replies

I have read all off your comments.

Damn i have the same problems.

Turning on and off when the car is closed and volume goes on mute.

I have made the disconnection that @omeromeryigit supposed and for now it is oke. Volume is on the steeringwheel. For now no powerbuttun or volumebar/slider

But the dealer keeps me waiting and waiting so i orderded a Hardware version H49 from a 2024 Octavia and i am going to put that one in.

Hope this week to recieve it. Paid a 400 euros but it is worth it.

On RRR.lt are more to find. Hope if you need one you will able to find one. They are rare and hard to find.

the older crappy versions are plenty.

Thanks to all off you for sharing there problems story's and solutions.

Hello, I removed the connection cable socket of the multimedia sound touch bar. I only control the sound from the steering wheel.

Today i replaced my screen. From h47 to a H49.

I hope the screen demons belong to the h47 and never come back. Easy to swap. 30 min work.

My dealer promised to refund me. He had no options but i have.

That’s good news.

So do you need to match the ABT software of the old one? Is there no component protection?

I upgraded from hardware H47 to Hardware version 49. The old version is not ok.

There is no component protection.

Only thing when swapping remove fuse number 30 and number 46.

One week update.

No problems anymore.

Hoor it stays this way.

Very happy with the upgrade. H49 hardware is much better then the h47

I'm hoping to first try just disconnecting the volume and on/off slider: my hope from other threads is that at least confirms what the problem is, gives me back things like Climate Control in the short term, and then I can look into getting a replacement.

When you say "easy to swap" though... I'm not sure where to get started. Does the screen unit pop out of the dash with a bit prising, or does the whole dash/trim need to get removed first? Any tools you'd recommend?

So far I've found photos of the screen when it's removed, but I can't really see steps to get it out in the first place.

Thanks.

First you remove the black cover at the back off the screen. Straight up. Then remove carefully the Strip from the passenger side to under the screen. Use a plastic removel tool.

In top there are two screws and left and right from the screen there are screws. 4 in total.

If you want to disconnect the slider leave the plugs in place. You can turn the screen around.

Then remove the 6 or 8 small torx screws. Look at the pictures here with connector you need to unplug.

Hope you have something with this explanation.

Hello all, any update after cleaning ?

The problem was resolved after the cleaning, it's been 10 months.

thanks for response, i try to clean it this morning so i hope it's finally work

Update, The problem has returned. What did you use to apply the isopropyl alcohol?

I cleaned it with cotton.

I'm going to try cleaning it again, and if that doesn't work, I'll unplug it.

This was my experience unfortunately.

I followed the steps earlier in this thread (I found the instructions at https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/516103-volume-keeps-turning-up/page/2/#findComment-5948038 and https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/516103-volume-keeps-turning-up/page/3/#findComment-5962405 to be the most helpful).

My stereo had been switching itself off an on incessantly, though never the volume going up and down I don't think.

I first disconnected the cable from the touch-bar to the stereo and reinstalled everything to make sure the touch-bar was the problem. This removed the problem for weeks.

Afterward I tried cleaning the reverse of the bar and reconnecting it, but after that I found the volume was turning itself down all the time. It didn't do this straight away - it waited until I'd put it all back together and driven a fair few miles first!

So I've decided just to disconect the touch-bar again: I don't think I know enough about what I ought to be cleaning, and I don't want to spend more of my weekends connecting and disconnecting it.

I'd rather it was all connected, but it's not a problem at all not having the touch strip working and it's solved the problem.

Personally, I always have the problem if the car is left in direct sunlight for too long. But it disappears when the inside of the vehicle cools down.

After reading all of the comments, I also decided to elaborate on the topic, and to see if there is some kind of update regarding this issue with Octavia MK4 model.

Basically, after buying as used car sometime in September 2024, car started increasing volume, restarting Infotainment system, and one day after work my wife could not start the car (some people from work told her that car was playing music on max volume for quite a while, so this is how we found out that it started Multimedia on its own). Battey drained completely so it needed to be changed. I got to a authorized service and they gave me replacement MMI, “which didn’t have that issue”, to test it some days. After no issues for 9-10 days, they ordered new MMI.

Infotainment display was changed sometime in December 2024 and I had no issues until 2 months ago, when after washing my car, volume started increasing again on its own. It was random, like previous time, but this time I didn’t have issue with MMI restarts nor starting MMI while car engine is not running - only volume up issue. Volume bar below the display was not changed at all.

Since I was still in warranty period of previous replacement, I contacted Skoda and they ordered a new Infotainment display - only asked for video as proof to factory. I sent it, and no additional questions asked (kuddos for that). Month later, new MMI came and I got a call to get it replaced (in the meantime, I didn’t experience any issue for a month! Nevertheless, I got it changed, and moved on as usual.

Couple of days ago, I went for a short vacation and left the car at the airport parking lot - and you imagine the stress of car not recognizing the key… Then, I thought it was the battery. But the key was giving a red light when pressing the buttons.

Anyway, 2 hours later, found somebody to start my car with cables and it got me going (Start/Stop option was not available, and bunch of yellow signs, but could be driven - 3 hours ride, no sign of volume, or any similar thing).

Since it’s weekend, I still didn’t have a chance to get it diagnosed in the Skoda service, however I wanted to write the post for all, due to the fact that my new MMI is actually H49, praised by some of you. I hoped it was not H49 - as this seemed like light at the end of the tunnel, but after checking, my new Infotainment replaced a month ago is H49 (picture attached).

Are there any news or developments, or any device that some of you might have?

PS. I suppose I will need to change the battery, but I managed to start the car with the same battery 3-4 times this morning.

Hi,

Thanks for this thread I have disconnected the volume control on my 2021 Octavia following the instructions on here. I’d like to replace it with a second hand screen but note everyone recommending the H49 version. I can’t find one on eBay but have loads H47. I have found one screen that has the same part number listed but doesn’t have the home button and menu button on the left hand side of the screen. Is this a H49 or is it something different?
