Skoda Superb Potential Buying Help.

Recommended Posts

Good evening guys, I’m looking at coming back to Skoda with potentially looking at buying a Skoda Superb Sportline Estate in 150 bhp engine and DSG gearbox. As that is what a car I have my eye on has in it,  I have a few questions

1. Are the panoramic sunroofs a no no after googling and reading some of the horror stories what are peoples views?

2. how often should the DSG gearbox be serviced?

3. How well do the DSG clutch’s last in them compared to the likes of a manual clutch setup?

4. how well do the Superb 150 engines cope with high mileage?

5. Anything to keep my eye out for when potentially viewing one bar the obvious, any little things specific to model to look out for?

hope you can help, cheers Lee.

Is it petrol or diesel? The petrol 150 is probably the 1.5 engine which is mated to the dq200 dry clutch dsg. The diesel 150 is 2.0 and mated to one of the wet clutch dsg boxes.

The dry clutches are a lot better than they used to be but they don't have an official service schedule (but can be serviced, @toot will likely weigh in on that).

The wet boxes are very robust and reliable with either 40k or 80k service schedule. The wet clutch should last the life of the car unless you go tuning it and driving like a d1ck. Easy solution is to down shift when wanting more power as they do tend to hunt for the highest gear.

Don't be put off by the dry clutch. It's a very good gearbox and should last well if looked after.

Thanks guys for your replies great info. It is a 2.0 diesel 150 engine so presume a wet DSG system so presume it will have service intervals to stop it getting clogged up etc.

I’m coming from a VW Passat estate and have two dogs now and need a bit more boot space room and the Superb Sportline is such a nice looking car!

I've a 2011 VW CC 2.0 TDI 170 BHP with the DQ250 wet DSG (probably the same in the sportline you're looking at).  It has 240k miles on it and still on the original clutch pack and never had a problem with the gearbox.  And that's after getting the engine and DSG remapped 7 years ago.

I've also got a 2017 2.0 TDi 190BHP superb sportline with the DQ250 wet DSG.  I had the engine and DSG remapped 2 years ago.  Now on 400,000Km.  Original clutch pack and never had a problem with the gearbox.

Just make sure the DSG oil and filter change has been done every 40k miles.

I've got a 2.0 tdi 150 manual, coming up to 150k miles. Never uses any oil between services. Was a VWFS lease car on variable services for first three years and been on fixed services for last four years.

On 43k with the 250 DSG and no issues, except it has a bit of a sluggish up change for the first 30 seconds when really cold. No idea why it does that, so I’ll wait for the doomsayers to day it’s fecked!

DSG service is 40k or three years whatever comes first, but I’m getting it changed every two, regardless of mileage.

@numskullwhere do you get the 3 year thing? Only ever known it to be 40k.

This was told to me by Lookers in Guildford. This was not by the delightful service advisor who called me a w@&ker under her breath for me daring to suggest that the 280 doesn’t have a cambelt - which was confirmed to her by a tech - but by another numpty behind the service desk.
Anyway, I’m happy to change the oils more often than the schedule states given the vast majority of miles I do is to and from work and all the wet mechanics barely get warm, especially in the winter.

Thanks guys for the input, much appreciated! Still searching, there is one fairly local to me but has nearly 75000 miles but is from a Skoda dealership with full Skoda history only thing putting me off is it’s an early car 2016 so smaller infotainment screen etc.
