Reversing camera

Reverse cameras are a pointless luxury if you already have reverse sensors (which most new cars have).

The sensors will accurately tell you how close you are to something, thus doing the same job as a camera just without the visual aid.

If I buy a car with reverse cameras fitted that’s fine, but I wouldn’t dream of chasing wires and drilling holes into a car to have one retro fitted. Even if it didn’t involve drilling holes I still wouldn’t bother, pointless.

Only my opinion, if you disagree then all good👍

Parking sensors in my car give a continuous beep at around 28-30cm i can get a lot closer with the camera.

It also enables me to see the towball to reverse under the Caravan hitch,

Honest to God, you've included a smily face but forgive me for not seeing the funny side of it.   We can all reverse cars, nobody NEEDS a camera to reverse, but it does act as an aid to assi

Why the negative comments? I have made MY choice to install a reverse camera and have asked for guidance on the fitting process.

If this forum group is made up of people who are not prepare to offer assistance when requested but are willing to provide negativity then I question whether this is the group for me.

Forums are indeed designed to offer assistance where required, but you’ll also have plenty of people offering plenty of opinions too, that’s the nature of a forum mate.

The trick is to accept that different opinions are absolutely fine, there will be heap loads of things that you disagree with me on…..and that’s absolutely fine.

No need to get upset.

You find them helpful and that’s great, I’ve just never seen the need that’s all. Nobody is right or wrong here, it’s a forum where help and opinions are commonplace, it’s really no big deal and I’m not sure why certain people are getting all worked up about it😂

My last car had reverse cameras but I literally never looked at the screen when reversing, I preferred the old fashioned way of mirrors and the sensor beeps.

If it works for you then all is good👍

No dramas whatsoever.

I’ll guarantee that if I looked hard enough I can find plenty of posts from you whereby you’ve voiced an unhelpful opinion…..but I don’t care enough to even bother.

Wind your neck in mate.

You could look but you'll find it hard to find one, I guess you'll try though.

Anyways, quite a few like you 'know alls' make like you've a god given right to make pointless comments, sneering at what others post when TBH you're just a wind up merchant.

Trust me, I won’t be looking because I couldn’t care less if I tried.

Oh, and I’m not a “know all” mate but I do have opinions on things, and I will voice them…..that ok with you?

I didn’t “sneer” at the OP at all, I just offered up my opinion on reverse cameras that’s all.  Apology accepted.

Mate, I’ve been on this forum since 2004, I doubt I’d have lasted this long if I was a wind up merchant.

This is a forum mate, where big boys and girls come to seek help and offer opinions etc.  If it’s a bit too edgy for you then I’d suggest subscribing to something far less offensive.

Oh, and there was no need to quote my last post twice, I read your reply the first time.

Hi guys. I am preparing to install the sinosmart system to my kamiq and all seems straight forward but could someone confirm how to remove the infotainment screen for access. I have seen the 2 screws under the flap at the top is there anything else?

Remove the screws under the flap then the screen pulls out, it's clipped in, then this.....

"After removing the screen you will find a black box the size of cd player

It is this you have to slide out after removing the screws on each side. Then you can pull the unit out, the loom is fitted to the back of this unit"

Thanks MickA so just the 2 screws to remove then the screen will unclip from it's housing?

Yes that's it, easy.

Not done my install yet but I have had the screen out for a look behind, looks pretty straightforward.

Thank MickA. As I have no under cover work area I need a dry day to carry out my install (hope I haven't missed summer lol). Thanks for the info and good luck with your install.

Cheers mate finally got around to finishing off the retrofit camera followed you instructions and all working great. Thank you for your help. Wish there were more like you.

@wooly4228 did you manage the camera on Octavia MK3 without coding ? if so , can you guide how did you do it ?

Camera now installed, decent quality and picture good, worth the money and effort in my opinion. Reverse sensors still operate with audible warning too. It's got adjustments for colour/brightness/contrast that's about it it shows the modes of display, see pics.

A little time consuming to install, taking the rear hatch panel off and routing the cable to the display but I've done this sort of thing before on another car, so expected.

Get a set of trim removal tools, makes it easier and protect the dash with a cloth/towel to rest the display unit whilst out.

Hope this helps others who are thinking about installing this particular camera, Sinosmart.

Glad to see that you succeeded the job. Would you mind to leave a link of the camera to buy ?

Here is the link, make sure you select CAM B when adding to your basket.

Forgot to mention it is just plug in and go, no coding, mine worked as soon as reverse was selected.👍

Perfect, thanks for the link. I will need to choose option B as mine is Octavia, forgot to mention before.

But again thanks very much for the guidance and I am going to order this now.

I will be doing anything like this very first time in life and I do not mind trying anything as far as not causing anything damage🤣

I wonder if you have anything to refer on how to install the camera kind of thing which I can follow step by step, I have also asked to the seller of camera on Ali Express if there is any instruction coming with the camera and unfortunately there won`t be anything with the product.

Any link of video or post would be fine.

Thanks

@MickA hello.

Is video signal available when you switch from reverse to the first gear for a while?

Or video has gone as soon as you turn off from reverse?

The reverse screen view switches off as soon as you come out of the reverse gear selector.

Make sure you measure the size of the rear hatch release on your Octavia and it matches those images and sizes shown. I chose CAM B as it matches exactly to my Kamiq. The Kamiq if you notice has chamfered corners on the top edge, take note if your Octavia matches that pattern.

Also it's pretty easy to connect up the camera at the dash display, not sure if you yours will be similar or built into the dash display?

Hi

I recently installed reverse parking camera from AliExpress on my Octavia mk3 2019 model. I had the same thing initially when I tried to check reverse parking camera.  I just plugged in to check it's suitability with infotainment system, initially screen got blank and I was only hearing sound but when I done the complete installation then it started working perfectly alright so I think it should be the same with you, you can try to install and then see if it works if you would like to playing around.

hi,

i have spoke today with a local expert and he told me that MIB3 doesn't support ali express cameras. anyway, if i don't reach an agreement with the seller and will go with your advice.

thanks, cheers

Is probably a camera that has the wrong Video Format and is therefore incompatible.  Seen the same in VW forums
