Power socket in boot - always on?

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if the 12v cigarette socket in the boot stays on after the engine is turned off?

Yes it stays on

Not helpful when you have the iv !!

I have a small fridge in the boot which on other cars I used to leave plugged in as it went off when the car was off.

shame I can’t do that now

I have a solar panel trickle charger - and having a 12v socket that stays live with the ignition off is very useful.

Over the years on here I reckon I've seen equal numbers of owners wanting the sockets to be ignition switched  or always live!

Shame that Skoda don't offer it as an owner configurable choice via the infotainment system.

However, it can be achieved by remvoing the fuse that powers the 12V sockets and replacing it with a piggyback fuse into an ignition switched slot - such as the rear wiper?

With the Canbus controlling everything (and the fact that there is no ignition key) I'm not sure that you can guarantee anything in the fuse box having a switched supply.  I had to trade up from my 12 year old MkII because of a parasitic current drain, and despite putting a microvolt meter over all the fuses I could not track it down.

I'm 99% certain there ARE ignition switched fuses, even with KESSY.

Correct. Rear wiper, fuse 66 for example.

Do you mean disconnecting the output wire from the existing fuseholder and connecting it to the piggyback fuse?

No, remove the fuse for the 12V sockets and connect the output wire from the piggyback fuse (with its input connection connected to the input side of the switched fuse, so they are independently fused) to the output pin of the place where the 12V fuse was.

Just be careful bypassing fuses as a lot of wiring is canbus

I'm not suggesting bypassing a fuse??? - just connecting the input of a fuse to a switched feed not an unswitched feed.

BTW any lead that carries power is NOT CANbus, CANbus is data signals only.

You obviously don't know how the can bus system works !

No, that will be you.

Really? I suppose being Electronics Manager for an automotive consultancy hasn't equipped me with that information?

I think you need to look in the mirror for someone who doesn't know how CAN bus systems work.

Why do all threads on briskoda end up like this 🙄

What's your problem with it?

There will often be a few posts that contain nonsense in any given thread.

Unfortunately CAN data bus is a subject misunderstood by a large majority of posters.

It's just a communication network.

Do you have any useful information to contribute @Neily03?
