Retrofit heated steering wheel

Featured Replies

I can't find a thread about retrofitting a heated steering wheel. I just came across this video and while I am not crazy about the alcantara wheel, I really want to get the same version on leather just for the heating.

Would anyone know some part numbers and potentially adaptations required to enable this in the infotainment?

I'm a fresh owner of a 2019 Superb with loads of equipment 💪

I was there in November last year and hired a Cupra Leon for the duration of our stay.  That had a heated steering wheel but it was far too warm to try it out!

I bought the following parts now:

- Steering wheel: OEM 3V0419091ADBGW [cars-equipment.com - 727 EUR]

- Clock spring: OEM 5Q0953569C (Valeo part number: 251714) [eBay.de - 200 EUR]

- Kufatec adapter: 43696-1 [kufatec.com - 50 EUR]

I plan to reuse my airbag as I've confirmed it's the same. The steering wheel is with perforated lether, DSG controls, white stitching, flat bottom, white LEDs and obviously, has heating.

The reason I went with that clock spring and not the ones ending in 549C was that I found someone with factory fitted heated steering wheel and they had this part number.

All that's left is to find a fuse adapter and a VCDS to code all of this. Waiting on a nice sunny weekend to spend the day with this. :)

Do you have ACC? Third arm on wheel

Okay, I had the opportunity to do the install today and not only does it look nice but it feels nice.

I spent about 2 hours after the 1.5 hour job trying to clear errors and I am now left with:

- start stop system error (no vcds codes on this but I am less concerned with this)

- ACC error on whichever way I activate the ACC stalk.

I did go through the measuring blocks and ensured the stalk inputs are read, however still not functional.

After having spent my evening looking for possible solutions, I came across an advice from someone doing this sort of stuff in Romania and they suggested the ACC module goes into some sort of coodldown/sleep a few hours after the car shuts down. After some 4 hours of searching I went out again and lo and behold, all errors were gone so I pulled out the vcds and cleared the remaining error codes, took a 10 min drive to test the start stop and acc and they both work perfectly.

Ran another full scan after the drive with no new errors anymore 🥰🥰🥰 will write a full post tomorrow to summarize the experience.

I saw in Octavia topic you suggested to use 5q0953569C clock spring. Do all 569C clock springs support ACC?

Or it is same problem as 569B, one part number, but it doesn't obvious is it support ACC or not

Ok, here’s the result of my research: I ended up installing the 5Q1.

  1. 5Q0953569B — This variant is ambiguous. If the module is from VW, it does not include components for the third ACC stalk. The same applies to 5Q0953569A (this also concerns both A and B). It might be possible to solder the necessary components, but to be sure, it's better to get it assembled with the stalk.

  2. 5Q0953569C — Starting from 01/12/2019, the 5Q0953569B modules were replaced with 5Q0953569C, which were installed exclusively on Skoda. Apparently, this confusion became a problem for everyone, so they created a dedicated module for Skoda with support for the third ACC stalk.

  3. Transition to the new 5Q1 module — These began to be installed on facelift models and are no longer standalone "16 modules" but rather a "submodule" of the BCM. In the catalog, the stalk and the steering column module are listed together under a single part number.

After spending some time on the diagrams, the following differences were identified:

  • The 5Q1 module no longer receives the CAN Comfort connection.
  • An additional LIN bus is added to the BCM module at T73c/54.
  • Airbag contacts are now combined into the same connector as the others.
  • The transmission lock switch is now routed to BCM T73a/24.

This variant is possible only with newer BCMs. Visually, the necessary pins appear starting with version 5Q0937084CQ (installed from 01/06/2017). Whether it supports all functionality 100% — I cannot confirm.

Will add more details later

Hello everyone. I'm slowly giving up.

1. The steering wheel with heating was replaced. Additionally, the slip ring 5Q0953569B was replaced. Of course, additional wiring.

2. Coding to get steering wheel heating in the menu. until now, everything was fine. Controls in the menu work correctly. The steering wheel heats up.

3. Now the problems... an error with the acc was displayed. When I returned to the old slip ring, the problem with the acc disappeared. Any ideas? Could the slip ring 5Q0953569B be incompatible with the acc? Am I missing some coding?

Merry Christmas!

I had the same problem with the ACC. It was showing an error on the dash and it was not working. After few hours the error disappeared by itself. I read somewhere, that the components undego some sort of a soft reset after few hours of inactivity (overnight to be safe). So maybe this is what needs to be done.

Thank for replying.

Do you have 5Q0953569B?

Yes, I described my progress in another topic about the retrofit of the HSW. Let me try to find it for you.

Check pages 5 and 6 for my comment but generally the whole post is very good and helpful.

Has anyone done this to a FL Superb? I have got a 2020 FL which obviously has the same steering wheel as the MK4 Octy but Im banging my head against the wall trying to figure out:

1. If I need a Squib and

2. What part number I need if I do.

I'm assuming I do, but all the ones I can find on fleabay for a Superb dont have the additional connector looking at the photos.

I initially bought the new steering wheel for the travel assist but I am old and have reynaulds in my hands and I want that sweet heat on my wheel and am trying to do it all in one hit.

So frustrating having the almost answers everywhere, there is one thread that lists all the variants of the squibs for LHD vehicles! 😭 I don't know how you lot find all your info!

I was going to buy an Octavia Mk4 squib, but then the Octavia thread on doing the retrofit says the Superb needs a different one, but is this different from the one that Mk3 Octavia's need when putting it on a pre FL Mk3 Superb?  I don't know!

So confused. If anyone has the answer or can direct me to where I can get it from I will be forever in your debt and my blue fingers will owe you a beer. I have ACC and a rear wiper.

Hi @zacko_O, do you mean that there are different versions of the same part? VW vs. Skoda? Because I have bought a new 5Q0953569B that I want to install in my 2017 Kodiaq with ACC. Is there a way to tell which version I have? It is HW100 SW265

Thanks

Yes, that’s why there a lot of issues after retrofitting 569B. Only after disassembly or connecting to car you can check.
