Retrofit heated steering wheel

Recommended Posts

I can't find a thread about retrofitting a heated steering wheel. I just came across this video and while I am not crazy about the alcantara wheel, I really want to get the same version on leather just for the heating.

Would anyone know some part numbers and potentially adaptations required to enable this in the infotainment?

I'm a fresh owner of a 2019 Superb with loads of equipment 💪

I must admit, a heated wheel really did appeal this week!

I was there in November last year and hired a Cupra Leon for the duration of our stay.  That had a heated steering wheel but it was far too warm to try it out!

I bought the following parts now:

- Steering wheel: OEM 3V0419091ADBGW [cars-equipment.com - 727 EUR]

- Clock spring: OEM 5Q0953569C (Valeo part number: 251714) [eBay.de - 200 EUR]

- Kufatec adapter: 43696-1 [kufatec.com - 50 EUR]

I plan to reuse my airbag as I've confirmed it's the same. The steering wheel is with perforated lether, DSG controls, white stitching, flat bottom, white LEDs and obviously, has heating.

The reason I went with that clock spring and not the ones ending in 549C was that I found someone with factory fitted heated steering wheel and they had this part number.

All that's left is to find a fuse adapter and a VCDS to code all of this. Waiting on a nice sunny weekend to spend the day with this. :)

Okay, I had the opportunity to do the install today and not only does it look nice but it feels nice.

I spent about 2 hours after the 1.5 hour job trying to clear errors and I am now left with:

- start stop system error (no vcds codes on this but I am less concerned with this)

- ACC error on whichever way I activate the ACC stalk.

I did go through the measuring blocks and ensured the stalk inputs are read, however still not functional.

After having spent my evening looking for possible solutions, I came across an advice from someone doing this sort of stuff in Romania and they suggested the ACC module goes into some sort of coodldown/sleep a few hours after the car shuts down. After some 4 hours of searching I went out again and lo and behold, all errors were gone so I pulled out the vcds and cleared the remaining error codes, took a 10 min drive to test the start stop and acc and they both work perfectly.

Ran another full scan after the drive with no new errors anymore 🥰🥰🥰 will write a full post tomorrow to summarize the experience.
