MMI and estetic issues

Featured Replies

Hi,

i have two issues:

- MMI system goes into "Component Protection Active" sometimes. Previous owner got a new screen. Solution?

- The Chrome rings around the climate control knob. Should it be easy to pull them off?

- The plastic trim (glossy) around the climate trim is fixed on the sides, but around the middle knob, the plastic is flexible, like no clips there in the centre?

Best Regards

Johan

Will need to go to a dealer or someone with genuine ODIS to unlock the radio and component protection system

Nope, maybe a dab of super glue?

There are no perfect clips on this trim and it does move slightly, but it shouldnt really bend in the middle, maybe pull it off and see if something is missing behind it?

Thanks for the reply!

MMI:

I have seen some youtube videos where the "Component Protection" is deactivated via a diagnostic tool, like Ross-Tech or VCDS. Is that what needs to be done? Possible to buy a diagnostic tool that could do these stuff, which one?

Chrome rings:

I solved the issue. They were just not in their correct position. They are perfect now.

Plastic panel:

I will pull it off, I feel that there should be some clips around the middle climate knob as well.

Sadly, not to be.  You need ODIS at a Skoda dealer to get the Component Protection removed....and you must provide proof that your Head Unit is not stolen.

So, even if I have acces to VCDS I cannot remove the Component Protection ?

Ouch!!

I was thinking you could perhaps replace the housing by removing the glove box and fuse panel...

Guess mine will be bodged with duct tape then!

Well, there are 'hacks' of course, but you have to be a fairly person to go invalidate your warranty or support on your system.

VCDS cannot 'hack' the system per-say - its more of a configuration tool.  Its an hour of your dealers time on ODIS to get CP removed.

Which housing are we talking about?

This thread seems to have got combined with some others...

Varaderoguy and I were replacing the pollen filter and broke the little U-shaped 'hooks' on the pollen filter container that the bottom of the pollen filter cover fits into. With mine, the top clips still (kind of) engage in the housing, but the bottom edge is hanging free. I'm expecting it to fall away at some time, although the closed glovebox may be holding it in place while I'm driving.

Really, 1 hour? Does the car lose all settings after this procedur?

I am not advocating hacking the firmware to enable certain features.  However, each person to their own; if you wish to do this, then its your responsibility if it goes wrong.

I don't think I mentioned anything to do with one hour.

"Its an hour of your dealers time on ODIS to get CP removed."

It obviously depends on the Skoda dealership, but what I quoted was minimum labour time at a Skoda Dealership (at least here in the UK). If you have a relationship with an existing dealer or specialist with ODIS then please use their services.
